This morning I went on an early-morning food run to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and then to Publix for groceries. This was in lieu of the regularly-scheduled ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’. I’ll resume the walk next Saturday morning, and then I’ll be taking the walk on-location next Sunday and Monday over to the Naples / Fort Myers area.
But as for this morning’s food run here are my thoughts:
1. Going to Cracker Barrel for breakfast was an impromptu spur-of-the-moment decision that I made this morning. The new me is far more spontaneous than the former me. Nowadays I think outside of the bun. Back then I was the bun.
2. Some restaurants have good food but bad service, and some restaurants have good service but bad food. Now I’m not saying that Cracker Barrel has bad food, but I am saying that their service is better than their food – at least for breakfast. I’ve had lunch and dinner there before, and I remember some pretty good meals. Their breakfast selection seems to be a bit below average as far as I’m concerned.
3. For about 3 to 4 years I was a regular 6:30 on a Saturday morning customer of the IHOP in Naranja Lakes. I sat at the same table. I ate the same MASSIVE meal. I had the same fantastic waitress for all of those years. Last Summer my waitress abruptly quit her job there, and my Saturday morning meal at IHOP came to a screeching halt. This morning my long lost IHOP waitress suddenly appeared LIVE and in-person as a waitress at Cracker Barrel ! We were both glad to see each other for the first time in about 8 months. I think I may have found a new home on Saturday mornings. I just need to experiment with different breakfast combinations to find the perfect meal deal for me.
4. I spent $53.80 at Publix this morning. It would have been $58.80 if it weren’t for a $5 coupon that I received in return for donating $5 to the South Florida Council of the Boy Scouts Of America. They are currently selling a ‘Camp Card’ that helps a young Scout earn his way to camp. Included with the Camp Card are a bunch of money-saving coupons including the one for Publix. As a former Scout of the late-1970s I’m all about supporting today’s local Scouts of South Florida.
5. There’s a bad virus spreading at the new Oasis Plaza in Homestead, and it’s called subpar customer service. It’s prevalent at Publix, Casavana, China Yan, Quiznos’, and (especially) McDonald’s. The Walgreens at the corner may be immune to the virus. I’ve had good experiences there so far.

Hey Bro!! What a strange coincidence that your favorite, kind waitress from IHOP now works at Cracker Barrel, and the fact that your visit there was impromptu and unplanned.
I have never had breakfast at Cracker Barrel, but their lunches and dinners are SIMPLY DEEEEELICIOUS!!!
I love any of their entrees with the words: Chicken, Fried, or Steak in it!!
