On this page it’s my chart / database of all of the sermons I’ve preached to my church family, as well as future sermons I hope to preach.
I was invited to preach for the first time in 2015, but I turned down the opportunity. It was too soon after my arrival at Living Waters Full Gospel Church in Homestead Florida, and at that point in my journey I was a bit broken, and I had little to no confidence in myself. After 8+ years on this journey of giving much but receiving little I decided that it was time to slow down, sit down, and take in and absorb God’s Glory and His Good News. I needed to get fed by His Word. I was malnourished. My growth was stunted. I didn’t have peace. I didn’t have self-control.
But as for you – be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded. (2 Chronicles 15:7 NIV)
My Pastor didn’t give up on me, and I didn’t give up on my ministry. I was asked again to preach in September 2016, and that time I gladly accepted the call. I preached my first full sermon on the first Sunday of October of 2016 – just 24 hours after returning from a 9-day / 3,008-mile road-trip between South Florida and North Texas. (I had plenty of time on the road to talk to God, and ask Him for guidance and direction on my sermon.)
In His grace – God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy – speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others – serve them well. If you are a teacher – teach well. If your gift is to encourage others – be encouraging. If it is giving – give generously. If God has given you leadership ability – take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others – do it gladly. (Romans 12:6-8 NLT)
Since that first sermon I’ve accepted the honor and enjoyed the privilege of preaching full sermons on a regular basis – each about 35 to 45 minutes in duration. I typically preach up to 10 times per year. Additionally I lead my church family in Communion – which we observe and celebrate once per month – usually on the first Sunday. I also open and close all of our services.
Preach the Word of God. Be prepared – whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. (2 Timothy 4:2 NLT)
There are many different manners and styles of preaching. I believe that a preacher should utilize the type that best fits his or her own current knowledge and skills level. I choose to do so via full manuscript. I write my own sermons from scratch over an extended period of time (usually from several weeks up to several months). I don’t purchase or borrow sermons, and I’m rarely advised or directed as to what to preach. I always try to have a new sermon ready to go in the event that I get a call to preach at any time. A typical sermon contains a few dozen verses of Scripture. I preach from the whole Bible – from Genesis to Revelation. I believe that each verse represents God’s voice, and that Christ is represented in all 66 verses of the Bible.
