On The Border In Homestead

On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina appears to be headed to Homestead with (only) their 5TH Florida location (and 3RD in South Florida). They will be building a new 7,000 square foot restaurant on the north side of Campbell Drive west of Homestead Hospital across from the Oasis Plaza (where Publix is). Look for it to open early on in 2009.

That is a great place, when we lived in Kendall we lived like maybe 10 minutes away. Great atmosphere and great food. Glad to see it coming down here. A+

I like their food–especially the chips. Hope their service is better than what we have experienced in Kendall. Please, no more poor service restaurants in Homestead!!!!!!!

I’ve never eaten there, and I had never really heard of the place until I found out that we were getting one aqui en el este de Homestead. I had to do research on it to report about it here on my blog !

Regarding bad service / poor management at restaurants in Homestead I agree with Anne J. We have enough of those down here already – The Atlanta Bread Company, Chili’s, Casavana Cuban Cuisine, Panda Express, and the list goes on and on.

Yes! We are finally getting some good eating establishments in Homestead! Now we will not have to drive to Kendall or Miami for a restaurant. There is one off of Pines East exit that i go to for lunch from time to time, I have not had bad service or food from this one. Never been to the one in Kendall.

The only thing that is missing Sonics and Krystals…then I will be set! Right now I am waiting for Olive Garden.

Sounds like a cool place. I’m with Tammy though – can’t wait for that Olive Garden. 😉

I say when Olive Garden opens, we all need to get together and take the place by storm!!!! Venus I know you will be game.

The two of you can meet me at my table (to be determined) at the Olive Garden. You know with brother and sister restaurants LongHorn Steakhouse and Olive Garden soon to be moving in to the Homestead Pavilion one has to wonder if their joint relative (same restaurant family) Red Lobster could eventually be joining them ?

Hey Tammy count me in …….

Let me know in advance so that I can make sure I have a way to get there.LOL…

I heard that we are getting a Red Lobster. Supposebly they are buying Gusto’s and it will be remodeled. We will wait and see if it is true.

Ela, don’t worry we will pick you up ourselves.

I agree; Though, my experience in Chili’s was pretty cool. I know how to make them smile at me, the rest is good history. The service in Casavana is not bad really but dry a bit… the server’s are definitely “non-Cuban” latins… cause Cubans are so amicable and upbeat, so sweet and social…. these latins looked central-south americans and were just blah, like dry service. So I agree with Major and y’all…..

I’m tired of all this Cuban and Mexican restaurants all over Homestead why not have Texas de Brazil, Johny Rockers, Hooters and even better Rocelli’s in Homestead Pavalion real restaurants not pre-pack microwave food.

Definitely! We need “variety”, how the spanish say ‘variedad’. We need options and more culture of food in the area. Though, i LOVE me some CUBAN food anytime, baby!!! Cubans and Spaniards share similar tastes, of course, since Cubans derive from Spain and are very close… & I love the culture in their foods! But Cubans have the spice and the salsa….. Que RRRICO…… hahaha, I try 😉

You know what tastes like pre-pack microwave food to me? Venezuela and Colombian foods! haha, for real, no joke! It’s just “BLAH”!!!

I agree we need a Hooters and maybe something similar like Dave and Buster’s or a bowling alley or a go-cart park and its a good idea because Homestead got the Speedway Stadium. Please no more Cuban’s restaurants the food sucks and service too. I went to La Carreta and its the same food what they serve in Food By The Pound and local cafeteria greasy and cooked with lard and triple price what serve in La Carreta probably the same in Casavana.

Cuban food sucks? I think you need to get your taste buds checked buddy. Cuban food is one of the most delicious of latin foods, spanish influences with caribbean spice, to say the least! How do spanish say…? ‘Que rico’…. haha I try… 😉

Cuban food has no comparion to Spanish food and absolutely has no Caribbean spice. I agree its not very pleasant food.

I’ve been to On the Border and it’s great. I’ve never had a problem with their service but I can tell you that their food is great. Looking forward to On the Border!
I am new the neighborhood and I must defend Casavana, everyone has been super nice to us and most of the time we just walk right in, we eat and go home happy. My favoriate is the Chicken soup, made fresh everyday, try taking some home one of these cold nights and then come back to tell me.

What???!!!! Cuban food is cooked with lard and Spanish food is always cooked in olive oil and wine. I been in many Cuban restaurants around Miami and that is all there is and the food tastes like TV dinner. For sure I ain’t going to Casavana wasting my time and money rather spent it waitng at Salvation Army for can food.

Cody & Broke, you’re both on CRACK! Much of Cuban foods do derive from Spanish cuisine, check yourselves! From desserts, to main dishes… YES THEY DO! Don’t hate, appreciate! And Cuban food does cook with Olive oil as well, and very popular for its’ fried dishes, of course… Cody & Broke, you just don’t know crap of latin foods, do you?! You sound like haters to me, I could imagine your response. Hit me up, please… do it now!! haha

Cody and Brock are right doesn’t matter if you don’t know about Latin food but all its matter is the sense of taste tells it all. I’m Mexican and I have two Cuban friends and they don’t like their own heritage food. My friends love Mexican and Peruvian foods and my sister is a pharmacist and says most Cubans take alot of high blood pressure and cholesterol medications and that explains it all.
