No Home Telephone Service

I’m 52. For the first time in my life I have no home telephone service. Well at least that’s what we called it up until perhaps 5 years ago – “home telephone service”. Now we call it “land line” – as if a cell phone was used solely at sea, but whatever.

My “land line” went dead sometime on September 06TH 2019. I realized so the next day on September 07TH, and I reported it to AT&T online. I was given a “service restore date” of September 16TH. Well that date came and went and AT&T did not restore my land line, and they did not contact me on my cell phone to explain why.

Since I was about to embark on my 3,000-mile road-trip to and from North Texas just a few days later I didn’t bother to contact AT&T on their lack of action. I would wait until after I return home on October 01ST to contact them. (Maybe they would restore my land line while I was away.)

Still no service on October 01ST, so I contacted them again – this time via my cell phone instead of online. After getting the runaround and getting transferred around to various AT&T employees, spokespersons, and call centers around the world about a half-dozen times I finally got someone on the other end who actually listened to me, understood me, and had the capability to react to my dilemma. I told her to disconnect my home phone service forever (she did so immediately), and send me a complete refund of what I am owed. I didn’t need my home phone for 3½ weeks, and I don’t need it anymore – especially since AT&T was non-responsive to it not working.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that AT&T cutoff my home phone service intentionally back on September 06TH. Perhaps I was the last man standing – the last household in my neighborhood to still have a land line – and I was wasting their precious resources by still utilizing antiquated 20TH Century technology.

I still remember all 3 of my childhood telephone numbers from 1972 to 1985. I had the same telephone number here for 25½ years from March 1994 until October 01ST 2019.

Now I just have my cell phone, and I’ve had the same telephone number since my very first one in 2002. I rarely utilize my cell phone to talk to people (other than text). My cell phone is essentially a small computer, and I use it for everything else. I’d rather talk to people in person – like we used to do back in the 20TH Century.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 140

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 20TH 2019:

  1. “Fear No More” – Building 429 [# 1 last week / 12TH week on chart]
  2. “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West [2 / 12TH]
  3. “I’m Gonna Let It Go” – Jason Gray [5 / 11TH]
  4. “Burn The Ships” – for King & Country [3 / 5TH]
  5. “Up Again” – Dan Bremnes [4 / 4TH]
  6. “Faith” – Jordan Feliz [9 / 2ND]
  7. “Echo” – Elevation Worship Ft. Tauren Wells [6 / 5TH]
  8. “Yes I Will” – Vertical Worship [7 / 10TH]
  9. “Dead Man Walking” – Jeremy Camp [8 / 14TH]
  10. “Better” – Pat Barrett [10 / 2ND]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Only Jesus” – Casting Crowns

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Word Of Life” – Jeremy Camp

This past week was Week 1 (of 2) of the Fall Pledge Drive on K-LOVE, so they played much less music per hour with a heavier concentration of recurrents (hits from more than 6 months ago). This week’s chart reflects the lack of new activity on the radio; although, Jordan Feliz does make a surprising 3-notch jump to # 6 with his “Faith”.

Jason Gray is still going strong with his reggae-sounding track, “I’m Gonna Let It Go”. It’s back in the Top 3 again.

Last night at 8 PM EDT TBN aired the 50TH Annual GMA Dove Awards. If you were one of the many who followed my LIVE tweeting @ChrisMDay then I thank you for watching the show with me, and if you were like me – singing and dancing along to the musical acts. If you missed it on TV then be sure to catch its rebroadcast (or set your DVR) for next Sunday October 27TH at 1 AM EDT.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May the God of hope fill you completely with joy and peace as you trust in Him.

Bible Christian Church God Ministry Scripture

Sunday Scripture

Today was another awesome day – praising, worshipping, and celebrating our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ – with my church family. It’s good to see slow and steady growth within our local church body with new faces joining us each week. God’s Kingdom continues to expand worldwide – including right here in Homestead Florida.

Today I led our church service. I preached my 28TH sermon over the past 3 years. It’s a message that God placed on my heart over the past few weeks. It’s all about God’s “Kindness & Love“.

Here’s an excerpt:

So today I talk about God’s “Kindness & Love” knowing that there is no other in creation who is so kind. There is no other in creation who loves us so much.

We as mere humans are worldly. We are sinful in that we are not always kind, and we are not always loving. In fact I’ll go even further to say that we are not kind more than we are kind, and we don’t love more than we do love.

Our God is always kind. He is always loving. Not a moment goes by where He fails to be kind. He never stops loving us. He created “Kindness & Love”, and He wants each of us to show more of it on our day-to-day journey to get closer to Him.

Here’s another excerpt:

God is doing a work in you. God won’t give up on you. He wants you to trust Him to continue His work to slowly change you into the likeness of His Son Christ Jesus. God will never give up on you. Don’t give up on God.

God is doing a work in me – one day at a time. I’m a perfectionist. If I want something done right at work then I do it myself. In fact – nobody’s allowed to do my job at work when I’m not there – when I’m on vacation.

I returned from my 13-day road-trip to and from North Texas on October 01ST. I was away from work for almost 2 weeks. I often thought about what crises – what scandals – what bad decisions were being made by others while I was away. I’m getting better at worrying less about work – when I’m not at work – but I still need to work at it. I’ll probably stop worrying about work – once I retire in a few years.

And another excerpt:

So back to my faults. I have – OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder). Any other OCDers here ?  Of course. I’m not alone. An estimated 1 out of every 40 adult Americans have some form of OCD. Guilty.

I have a temper at times. “No Chris. You’re too mild-mannered to have a temper.” Actually I’ve been known to throw temper tantrums when I least expect it – even at the age of 52. Why I threw at least two temper tantrums at work this past week.

Oh ! – and I’ve been committing sins for as long as I’ve known the difference between right and wrong. Any other sinners here ?  Of course. I’m not alone. An estimated 10 out of every 10 adult Americans is a sinner.

You know we all say things that we shouldn’t. We all do things that we shouldn’t. We all think things that we shouldn’t. And you know what ?  We all don’t say things that we should. We all don’t do things that we should. We are not perfect. We are far from perfect. But our God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, and He loves us so much. Oh ! – and He’s perfect in every way.

And finally this Scripture from Titus 3:4-7:

When God our Savior revealed His “Kindness & Love” – He saved us – not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins – giving us a new birth – and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of His grace He declared us righteous, and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1999

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 20 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 17TH 1999:

  1. “Mambo No. 5” – Lou Bega
  2. “Steal My Sunshine” – Len
  3. “Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me For Me)” – Blessid Union Of Souls
  4. “(You Drive Me) Crazy” – Britney Spears
  5. “Larger Than Life” – The Backstreet Boys

Well I was certainly partying to this music during the waning months of the 20TH Century. All 5 of these hits could be heard at any dance club at the time.

“Steal My Sunshine” – what an amazing song that is. It’s one of the greatest songs of my entire life. It spent 42 weeks in a row on my chart from July 1999 to May 2000, and it was a # 1 smash for me. It was also a worldwide pop smash.

Len were Marc (brother) and Sharon (sister) Costanzo, and they were in their late-20s at the time. They took a whole bunch of their friends over to Daytona Beach Florida in March 1999, and they self-produced this amazing music video of the sights and sounds of Spring Break. This video just screams “1999” with its RETRO style and multiple split-screen scenes of fun in the Florida sun. The song and its video were both critically-acclaimed, and they won a bunch of awards.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !
