Good music from this week exactly 20 years ago – back when I was young 31.
“Hey Now Now” was a huge summer smash – particularly here in Florida on Top 40 radio. It spent 9 weeks in a row on my Top 5 at the time. Swirl 360 were 28-year-old twins Denny and Kenny Scott, and they recorded this poppy gem on Jacksonville Beach – just a few miles away from where my parents and little brother lived at the time. They were on the same record label (Mercury Records) as Hanson (also brothers), and they had the same manager as well. “Hey Now Now” was 1998’s answer to 1997’s “MMMBop”.
Here’s the official music video for “Hey Now Now”. Surf’s Up Dudes !

“It’s Like That” was my jam to dance to 20 years ago this week.
You know back in the day I used to dance in the clubs – by land and by sea. I was immersed into the trance, techno, and house scene. Now that I’m in my early-50s I’m more fragile than ever before. I fear of throwing out my lower back, spraining a muscle, or having a heart attack.
I no longer hang out at clubs – for the most part. I recently danced like a youngster for 2 out of 4 nights in the Fathoms nightclub of the Disney Magic cruise ship. I discovered their “Silent DJ Party” where you wear wireless headphones and select 1 of 3 music channels to listen to. If you walk in to the nightclub you hear nothing, and you see people with headphones dancing to completely different beats. It’s amusing and fun simultaneously. I’ve also been known to dance at LIVE concerts, as well as church worship nights.
You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy – that I might sing praises to You and not be silent. O LORD my God. I will give You thanks forever ! (Psalm 30:11-12 NLT)

Interesting chart from 20 years ago this weekend. Light rock (less talk) had displaced the late-’90s Eurodance party – at least temporarily.
31 years ago tomorrow – May 19TH 1987 (a Tuesday) – me and a buddy from work (Kelly Brown) ventured from RAF Fairford eastward to London England to see Duran Duran LIVE in concert at historic Wembley Arena. It was part of their worldwide “Strange Behaviour” tour of 1987 that promoted the songs off their “Notorious” album. It was a typical British teen pop concert, and I was right there “teening-out” at the young energetic age of 19 (2½ weeks shy of my 20TH birthday).
