Sunday Scripture

Last night I officially completed my next sermon titled “Faith & Works”. It’s a continuation of my message series (started in February) based on the Book Of James. In this sermon I cover the 2ND half of James Chapter 2. I compare Paul and James, and how they viewed faith and works from different angles. I also include Scripture from Chapter 5 of Paul’s letter to the Galatians. The Book Of James and The Epistle To The Galatians were probably the first 2 books written chronologically in the New Testament – right around 50 A.D.

Paul describes meeting James for the first time in his letter to the Galatians. Paul called James – and Peter – and John – as “pillars of the church”. They collectively accepted Paul – the new guy – as a co-worker. They suggested that Paul should continue helping the poor while preaching the Gospel to the Gentiles.

I also introduced John The Baptist, or John The Baptizer in my sermon. He was a Preacher, a Prophet, and even a Saint. He preached all about the importance of baptisms. He baptized thousands along both sides of the Jordan River – including Jesus Christ Himself. That started Christ’s ministry. Matthew 3:13-17 describes that critical event.

John The Baptist preached, “Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.” (Luke 3:8 NLT)

My sermon leads-in perfectly to my Communion based on the first 10 verses of Chapter 2 of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians (“Made Alive With Christ”).

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)

I’m looking forward to sharing this soon with my church family !

Go forth and share God’s Good News to all who will listen. Go forth and live your fantastic journey for all to see. Go forth and love God and all His children.

Sunday Scripture

Our 5-month (May to October) rainy season has begun with a vengeance here in South Florida. We’ve received over a half-foot of rain over the past 7 days, and we could receive even more than that over the next 7 days. We receive from 4 to 5 feet (48 to 60 inches) of rain during a typical rainy season. That’s about 75% of our annual rainfall in just 5 months.

I gave a weather report this morning to my church family during Praise & Worship. It was straight from Psalm 97, and as the Bible says:

The LORD is King !  Let the earth rejoice !  Let the farthest coastlands be glad. Dark clouds surround Him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire spreads ahead of Him, and burns up all His foes. His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD – before the LORD of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness. Every nation sees His glory. Those who worship idols are disgraced – all who brag about their worthless gods – for every god must bow to Him. Jerusalem has heard and rejoiced, and all the towns of Judah are glad because of your justice – O LORD !  For you – O LORD – are supreme over all the earth. You are exalted far above all gods. (Psalm 97:1-9 NLT)

I’m currently working on my 15TH full sermon. It’s titled “Faith & Works”, and it continues my message series on the Book Of James. I’ll be updating my SERMONS page soon with the new entry. Last night I learned all about John The Baptist – or John The Baptizer. He baptized everyone from Jesus Christ Himself to tax collectors all along the banks of the Jordan River. He figures prominently in my new sermon. He believed that baptism was ultimate proof that one was turning from darkness and towards light – God’s light.

Prove by the way you live that you have really turned from your sins and turned to God. (Luke 3:8a NLT)

Have a great week my brothers and sisters online. Go forth and share God’s Good News will all who will listen. Go forth and live your fantastic journey. Go forth and love God and all of His children.

Sunday Scripture

Happy Mothers’ Day !  We had a fun service this morning at Living Waters Full Gospel Church Of Homestead (Florida). Our Lead Pastor Bob brought the Good News from both the Old Testament and New Testament.

Before and after the sermon we celebrated Mothers’ Day with Scripture. As part of Praise & Worship I proclaimed this from the Psalmist:

You made all the delicate inner parts of my body, and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank You for making me so wonderfully complex !  Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (Psalm 139:13-16 NLT)

After the sermon I shared this beautiful gem from the very end of Proverbs:

She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all !” Charm is deceptive and beauty does not last, but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise. (Proverbs 31:25-31 NLT)

May I …

May I … make this month of May a productive one here at home. I returned home from vacation on the 29TH of April, and I have no trips (business or leisure) planned until the middle of June. I don’t even have any music concerts or sporting events scheduled !

I preached this past Sunday morning, so it’s back to the drawing board (Microsoft Word) and the Bible to work on my next sermon tentatively titled “Faith & Works” (James 2:14-26). I got started last night. I’m comparing Paul and James, and how they both viewed “Faith & Works” from different perspectives.

My SERMONS page is almost done. I still need to populate my earliest sermons with the Primary Scriptures utilized. I also hope to expand upon my ABOUT ME biographical page.

In addition to enhancing this web site and blogging 4 times per week on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays I also plan to add new photos to my Flickr Photostream (which is accessible just below my Twitter feed along the right-hand side of this site). That is – if you’re viewing this on a traditional computer. This site may look much different if you’re viewing it via a mobile device or tablet. Here are the links to both my Flickr Photostream and my Twitter feed.

Your likes and comments are always welcome. Thank You for following me if you’re doing that. Your likes, comments, and follows allow me (and remind me) to come check out your blog or web site. (Most of you do a much better job than I do at this.)

Until tomorrow night – keep moving forward towards God’s bright light.

I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God – through Christ Jesus – is calling us. (Philippians 3:14 NLT)
