My Top 10 Hits – Week 168

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday May 03RD 2020:

  1. “Almost Home” – MercyMe [# 1 last week / 20TH week on chart]
  2. “I Will Fear No More” – The Afters [3 / 15TH]
  3. “(I’ll) Never Let You Down” – Hawk Nelson Ft. Hunter & Tara [4 / 6TH]
  4. “Alive And Breathing” – Matt Maher [2 / 8TH]
  5. “Your Name Is Power” – Rend Collective [5 / 17TH]
  6. “Great Things” – Phil Wickham [10 / 2ND]
  7. “The God Who Stays” – Matthew West [7 / 24TH]
  8. “Waymaker” – Michael W. Smith Ft. Vanessa Campagna [8 / 15TH]
  9. “Keep Me In The Moment” – Jeremy Camp [9 / 3RD]
  10. “Love” – We Are Messengers [- / 1ST]

# 1 This Week In:
2019 – “Alive” – Big Daddy Weave
2018 – “What A Friend” – Matt Maher
2017 – “Forgiven” – Crowder

It’s May now, and MercyMe is still there at # 1. They’ve been there since February. This is the 11TH week in a row at # 1 for “Almost Home”. That makes it the longest-running # 1 smash on my chart of the current era which began 3 years and 3 months ago. Going back even further it’s the longest-running # 1 smash since 2009 when “Open Season” from Air Five spent 11 weeks at # 1.

At the other end of my chart We Are Messengers are back with some “Love” for us. It’s their 5TH hit on my chart over the past 3 years and 3 months. Their “Magnify” was one of the earliest hits I heard on the radio back in 2017 when I returned to Christian radio after more than 7 years away. I saw We Are Messengers LIVE in concert last year while their 3RD hit – “Maybe It’s OK” – was # 1 on my chart. They put on a great set !

Here’s the official video with lyrics for “Love”. You can’t sit down for this one. You need to get up out of your chair or couch, and sing and dance along to these fun people in the video. After that share the video with someone you love. Support positive and encouraging Christian music on the radio and at retail.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

My Fantastic Journey: It’s In The Lyrics

13 years ago this week The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus debuted on my chart with their breakthrough smash that was huge here in the U.S. – and also in New Zealand of all places. It was a Top 5 pop smash in New Zealand !

Here in the U.S. it was a multi-format crossover smash – huge at pop, mainstream rock, alternative rock, and Christian rock stations from coast-to-coast. It was a # 1 smash at Christian rock, and it hit # 5 on my chart at the time (which skewed Christian rock).

It tells the story of a young woman who is the victim of domestic violence in her home.

♫ Do you feel like a man – when you push her around ?
Do you feel better now, as she falls to the ground ?
Well I’ll tell you my friend – one day this world’s got to end
As your lies crumble down – a new life she has found ♫

Here’s its official music video – with over 79 million views over the past 11 years on YouTube:

♫ A pebble in the water makes a ripple effect
Every action in this world will bear a consequence
If you wait around forever you will surely drown
I see what’s going down ♫

You abuse anyone or anything, and you’ll have to answer to God in the end. It’s in the lyrics.

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are still recording, performing, and touring in 2020. They’ve been together since they formed in Clay County Florida in 2003.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 167

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday April 26TH 2020:

  1. “Almost Home” – MercyMe [# 1 last week / 19TH week on chart]
  2. “Alive And Breathing” – Matt Maher [2 / 7TH]
  3. “I Will Fear No More” – The Afters [3 / 14TH]
  4. “(I’ll) Never Let You Down” – Hawk Nelson Ft. Hunter & Tara [4 / 5TH]
  5. “Your Name Is Power” – Rend Collective [6 / 16TH]
  6. “See A Victory” – Elevation Worship [5 / 12TH]
  7. “The God Who Stays” – Matthew West [7 / 23RD]
  8. “Waymaker” – Michael W. Smith Ft. Vanessa Campagna [8 / 14TH]
  9. “Keep Me In The Moment” – Jeremy Camp [10 / 2ND]
  10. “Great Things” – Phil Wickham [- / 1ST]

# 1 This Week In:
2019 – “Alive” – Big Daddy Weave
2018 – “Freedom Hymn” – Austin French
2017 – “Even If” – MercyMe

Phil Wickham returns to my chart for what appears to be an annual tradition; although, he’s a little bit early this year. His “Living Hope” was a Summer of 2018 hit, and his “Till I Found You” was a # 2 hit during the Summer of 2019. Now he’s back with his Summer of 2020 hit – a couple of months early. It’s “Great Things”, and it’s the lead-off track of his Summer of 2018 studio album, “Living Hope”. All 3 hits mentioned were actually released as promotional digital singles several weeks apart just prior to the album’s release, but their respective releases to Christian radio have been staggered since then.

Phil has used the upbeat “Great Things” to kickoff Praise & Worship at various churches where he led the music.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1990

Every 2ND, 3RD, and 4TH Friday of the month I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday April 22ND 1990:

  1. “Get Up ! (Before The Night Is Over)” – Technotronic Ft. Ya Kid K
  2. “Dangerous” – Roxette
  3. “Roam” – The B-52s
  4. “Don’t Wanna Fall In Love” – Jane Child
  5. “This Old Heart Of Mine” – Rod Stewart & Ronald Isley

What a jam that was 30 years ago – and it still is today. Imagine a young almost 23-year-old version of me dancing to that jam at the hottest clubs of South Florida in 1990. It’s still in heavy rotation on my iPod Shuffles. I can’t keep still in my chair when I hear it at almost 53 years old. It’s aged quite well over the past 30 years. (It’s aged better than me.)

The Eurodance era of the 1990s was my favorite era of music (by far) prior to salvation in Christ. Many credit “Gonna Make You Sweat” from C + C Music Factory in kickstarting the nearly decade-long pop radio era in 1991, but Technotronic was getting the world to dance with hip hop treats and house beats some two years earlier. They stormed the world with two back-to-back mammoth hits – starting with “Pump Up The Jam” in 1989 and continuing with “Get Up ! …” in 1990.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !
