Rain: So Close Yet So Far Away

It is currently raining – actually pouring down in buckets up in North Miami-Dade County and into Broward County on this Friday afternoon. But here in Homestead it is still bone dry. This is our 12TH day in a row with absolutely no rain whatsoever (0.00), and since the official start of the South Florida ‘dry season’ on November 01ST only a mere inch and a quarter has fallen over Homestead ARB over the past 100 days.

Can some of that heavy rain just 30 miles to the north of us reach us down here in Homestead ?  The answer is no. It’s headed in the opposite direction; however, I am forecasting occasional showers for Homestead during the day tomorrow (Saturday) as a cold front approaches. Once the front eases through late on Saturday night any chance of rain comes to a screeching halt. Sunday looks slightly cooler and dryer for us. It should be a perfect day for a picnic over at Homestead Bayfront Park !

Get Ready Homestead – The ’80s Are Back !

Over the past 11 days we’ve only hit the 80°F mark once – last Thursday. We came close today – 78°F officially at Homestead ARB at 4 PM.

Get ready for an extended period of tranquil South Florida weather as we put the month of January to bed and usher in the month of February. For at least the next 7 to 10 days you can expect mostly sunny skies, virtually no rain, light tropical breezes from the east, southeast, and south, and no cold fronts. Daytime high temperatures will reach the lower-80s each day, and overnight low temperatures will hover in the mid-60s. It’s what we expect here in our subtropical paradise during this time of the year, and it’s what we’re getting. Get out there and enjoy it !

Homestead’s Coldest Morning In 12 Years !

It was (unofficially) the coldest morning in nearly a dozen years this morning, as Homestead ARB FL dropped down to a bonechilling 35°F / 2°C at 6 AM and 7 AM. We haven’t seen a temperature that low since the South Florida Freeze Of January 1996 (unconfirmed).

Homestead ARB was in the 30s for about 8 hours this morning, and in the 40s for an additional 8 hours.

Here in my living room the temperature bottomed out at a near record low of 61°F (at about the same time that it was 35°F outside). I didn’t bother turning on my ‘heater’ overnight. 61°F is generally about 16 degrees below the normal year-round temperature of 77°F in my living room.

The abnormal cold spell is pretty much done and over with, as early-morning temperatures tomorrow are expected to be 15 to 20 degrees less cold than they were this morning. Afternoon high temperatures back up in the mid-to-upper-70s (approaching 80°F) return on Saturday for at least a week. It’s what we expect aqui en el Sur de Florida !
