Homestead City Council

Meet your new Homestead City Council.

I just watched the first (televised) City Council meeting of the new group (taped from this past Monday night), and although I didn’t vote for a single one of them I was truly impressed with what I saw – their actions and their professionalism. Homestead will be in fine hands with our new elected leaders. NOW is the time for all of our citizens to support them as they correct some wrongdoings of the past and continue the sensible forward progress of this great city that we call home.

The Council Chambers were absolutely packed with disgruntled bowlers of all ages who recently lost their Homestead Bowling Center. 5 passionate representatives of the large group stated their case to the new City Council on the importance of the place to the city, and what could possibly be done to refurbish and then reopen the place. Mayor & Council will research the matter.

Florida Weather In December For Everyone

How COLD do you like it ?  How HOT do you like it ?

The Great State Of Florida had it all on this early December day. Early morning temperatures bottomed out way down in the upper-20s to the lower-30s across much of the northwestern panhandle. Much of that region recovered nicely into the lower-60s by the middle of the afternoon.

Meanwhile aqui en el sur much of us enjoyed high temperatures right around the 80°F mark.

That’s how we like it in December. That’s why we call Florida home.

Electricity For Less Than 8 Cents Per Hour

I just received and paid my monthly FPL bill electronically, and it was nearly $45 less than it was for the previous month. In fact it was my 2ND lowest bill over the past 33 months !

It should’ve been. I was away on vacation for about half of the month !

My $60.39 electric bill over the course of 33 days equates to exactly $1.83 per day – or 7.625 cents per hour.

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  I had lunch with Paul today at Ruby Tuesday. It’s been a long time since I ate there. It’s just my two cents worth here, but it seems to me that Ruby Tuesday is experiencing some hard times. It used to be a party place, but now it seems more like a cafeteria. The menus are no longer glossy, as they are now printed on recycled paper and they have a cheap feel to them. Their food selection has also diminished greatly. I think that Applebee’s is clearly winning the battle with them.

2.  The Wedding‘s “Staring At The Light” has some of the most awesome lyrics in a rockin’ hit song of today. They sum up my fantastic journey thus far, and if our current Life Group study series “Chasing Daylight” had a theme song then this would have to be it.

3.  I may be a Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel expert, but I’m literally a beginner when it comes to Microsoft PowerPoint. Some of my co-workers know how to effectively use it, but I don’t. The teacher will have to learn from his students.

4.  I can’t wash my clothes without my Tide With Bleach powdered laundry detergent. I can’t dry my clothes without my Snuggle fabric softener. By the way click on that link to Snuggle and crank up your speakers LOUD. Be prepared to ROCK OUT !

5.  As I walk around in this world in my daily routines I see too many sad and miserable people. You can just see it in their faces. You can hear it in their voices. There’s something missing from their lives. I know what it is. It’s a personal relationship with God. I used to be just like them, and then I woke up. The Lord is my Saviour.

6.  If I had 3 to 4 hours to spare on a Monday morning then I would sit at the hot new Starbucks in Florida City and eavesdrop on Travis, Paul, and Jesse.

7.  I need to post more blog entries on Cuban restaurants. My short Saturday morning post on the Casavana Cuban Cuisine is the gift that just keeps on giving. It keeps sending heavy blog traffic headed my way. It’s by far the most popular single-entry post of the short history of this blog here on WordPress. Once I get the chance to actually eat there then I’ll have to post a lengthy review of the place. That could actually bog down the WordPress servers !

8.  The Canadian Dollar is collapsing before our very eyes. Not quite a month ago it was worth over $1.10 U.S. (an all-time record). Now it’s down below parity at around $0.987 U.S. It’s the Buck over the Loonie, Eh !

9.  TOMORROW is my ‘half-birthday’. 6 months ago tomorrow I turned 40, and 6 months from tomorrow I turn 41. Only I think of these things !

10.  After I typed # 9 above I spent 16 minutes and 41 seconds talking with Ela on the telephone. A Tuesday afternoon is just not complete until we’ve shared our current thoughts together. Spending that 16:41 with her was far more important than what was originally written here as the #10 ‘Grab Bag O’ Thought’. Ela constantly inspires me and those around her. I can’t imagine this fantastic journey without her.
