Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

ALWAYS HONEST … SOMETIMES BRUTAL !

1.  Another brief cool spell is upon us aqui en Homestead. I turned off my A.C. last night, and this afternoon one of my sliding glass doors is open. It’s a nice comfy 76°F here in my living room. We’re dropping down to the mid-50s again tomorrow morning – just like this morning.

2.  I think I have my first vacation planned for 2008. I’m going to San Antonio Texas to hang out at the River Walk with my brother at the end of June. San Antonio is the Orlando of Texas.

3.  I’m thinking about doing a very special upcoming edition of ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’ on-location at Monkey Jungle.

4.  Who cares about the ongoing writer’s strike. I managed to record nearly 10 hours of high-quality television programming last night via my 3 VCRs (Arthur, Barney, and Charley). Tonight I’ve got another 6 hours of recording planned. The ‘VHS Trio’ are workin’ overtime !

5.  Further proof that I am 40-years-old (pushing 41) – Less than a week after I sprained my lower back muscle on a Sunday morning at Life Pointe Church I hurt the right-side of my neck and my right shoulder while sleeping awkwardly this past Saturday morning. It’s 84-hours later, and I’m still in moderate pain in that general area. I’m fragile.

6.  ‘The Major’s Life Blog’ was recently described by a fellow believer as a ‘ministry’. I can dig that !  It’s a cool form of communication for me to document the life and times of this fantastic journey that I’m on. God gave me the talent of writing, and I’m using it for good. He is reading my blog every day.

7.  Contrary to possible belief I am not a secret minority investor or owner of Casavana Cuban Cuisine.

8.  The Home Depot at Biscayne Drive and Speedway Boulevard is now open for business. There should be no shortage of home supplies here in the Greater Homestead / Florida City area with two Home Depots and a Lowe’s within 8 miles of each other.

9.  The 12TH season of “The Amazing Race” on CBS airs its finale this upcoming Sunday night at 8 PM EST. I’m rooting for Nicolas and Donald to take the cool mil.

10.  I’m taking the day off from work this upcoming Friday. With Monday as a Federal holiday that gives me a 4-day / 111-hour weekend to catch up on stuff at home. I can’t wait to kick it all off at 3 PM this Thursday afternoon.

The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club

SPECIAL TWO-FOR-ONE SALE !

1.  Keep your face to the sunshine and you will never see the shadows.
This may be the wisest fortune cookie message I have ever received. This is a ‘Chasing Daylight‘ fortune here. Look forward. Proceed. Move forward. Don’t look back at the darkness. Look ahead at the light. Seize every moment in time.

2.  Avoid senseless contradictions with others.
This seems like it’s straight out of the Scriptures. Don’t put on a show. Don’t be one person on Sunday morning at church and then a totally different person at all other times. If you are following God on this fantastic journey then you should be doing so 24-7. You are the hands and feet of Him on His Earth. You are a Disciple of Him. Be the Disciple that you are all of the time. Everyone is watching, but most importantly He is always watching.

Casavana Cuban Cuisine: Es Cuál Está Para El Almuerzo

I went to Casvana Cuban Cuisine this morning at 11:30 for Lunch, and I enjoyed the ‘Miami Sandwich’. What exactly is that you may ask ?  I’ll tell you mi amigo. It’s a deliciously toasted Cuban sandwich pressed with ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and swiss cheese (yum) on Cuban bread. It was cut into 4 equal-size pieces, and I was lovin’ it !

I was also peer-pressured by my Lunch companion and our waitress staff into selecting a fine dessert item, so I chose the ‘Flan Cheesecake’. It’s original cheesecake and flan (Cuban baked custard with a layer of carmelized sugar).

I give this meal a perfect 4.0 stars estrellas !

Now that I’ve enjoyed their Breakfast and their Lunch I must now add ‘Dinner’ to my future agenda. If anyone wishes to go out to Casavana for Dinner sometime then please inquire within. Please give me at least a few days advance notice so that I may study their menu online.

Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad

1.  Anne J. was back in business on this glorious Sunday morning. All of us on the Setup and Hospitality crew welcomed her back with open arms, and she proceeded to slide right back into her urgent role as our leader. We love to serve each other and the Lord with Anne in charge !

2.  It was also great to welcome back Mark and Terry after an extended hiatus. Mark brought about 25 servings of Cuban Colada and his muscular strength, and Terry brought her mad Information & Sales Desk skills and her smiles.

3.  Pastor Paul‘s laptop was back in action at the Information Booth, and ‘the small screen’ was rockin’ hard – so hard that it was too loud for Anne to concentrate. After arguing discussing with Anne that it was not loud enough he tried to show me how to turn the volume down slightly. I reminded Paul that I know how to use a computer, but that I was scared to touch his for fear that it would explode. He told me that it was fine for me to touch it. Paul turned down the volume a little bit, and then after he walked away I turned it down a little bit more. That made Anne happy.

4.  The main lobby was as packed as I’ve ever seen it in-between the two services this morning. I think that Flagship Cinemas would dream of a crowd like ours during the week when they are in the business of selling movie tickets, popcorn, candy, and sodas.

5.  The 10:30 AM service was as jam-packed-full as it could possibly be. I think that we may have exceeded the 300 mark again in attendees for the two services combined. The state of our church is strong and healthy !

6.  Pastor Travis did his teaching on Fear, Risk, Love, Loving God, and Loving Man. How does it all fit together ?  The biggest risk that we face is the fear of loving people. Love requires risk, and we are called to the Greatest Commandment – to love God and our neighbor.

Mark 12:28-31 (New Living Translation – 2ND Edition):

28  One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29  Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD.
30  And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’
31  The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
