The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday June 29TH 2008:

  1. Captives Come Home – Run Kid Run
  2. Out Of Control – Capital Lights
  3. 10 Good Reasons – Hello Kelly
  4. Anything You Say – Deas Vail
  5. This Is Home – Switchfoot

As I entered the 23RD month of my salvation a full decade ago the soundtrack of my journey at the time was poppy and punky.

Run Kid Run filled the bill perfectly. They released a string of radio-friendly hits back in the late-2000s – most of which reached the Top 3 – “Sing To Me” (# 3 in 2007), “Captives Come Home” (# 1 for 4 weeks in 2008), “Sure Shot” (# 2 in 2008), “Set The Dial” (# 1 for 3 weeks in 2009), and “My Sweet Escape” (#6 in 2009). Additionally “I’ll Forever Sing” – released shortly before my salvation in 2006 – was a popular recurrent radio hit as I was learning all about God for the very first time.

I’ll be back on Sunday with Scripture, and then on Monday it’s my brand new Top 10 music chart.

Enjoy this weekend my brothers and sisters. Be safe. Have fun. Love all. Live life.

You Call Me …

This Sunday July 01ST I’ll be preaching a full sermon to my church family titled “Faith & Works”. 8 days later I’ll be preaching another full sermon to another church family here in town titled “Anointed & Accepted”. In-between those two sermons I’ll be on vacation, so it’ll be a crazy start to the month of July for me.

This is part of my “Faith & Works” sermon for this Sunday:

There’s an engraving on a cathedral wall in Germany that reads as follows:

Thus speaketh Christ our Lord to us:
You call Me Master, and obey Me not.
You call Me Light, and see Me not.
You call Me the Way, and walk Me not.
You call Me Life, and choose Me not.
You call Me Wise, and follow Me not.
You call Me Fair, and love Me not.
You call Me Rich, and ask Me not.
You call Me Eternal, and seek Me not.
You call Me Noble, and serve Me not.
You call Me Gracious, and trust Me not.
You call Me Might, and honor Me not.
You call Me Just, and fear Me not.
If I judge you – then blame Me not.

The Major’s Top 10 Hits – Week 71

Every Monday night I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday June 24TH 2018:

  1. “Do It Again” – Elevation Worship [# 1 last week / 8TH week on chart]
  2. “All In” – Matthew West [3 / 8TH]
  3. “Grace Got You” – MercyMe [4 / 12TH]
  4. “Dream Small” – Josh Wilson [5 / 4TH]
  5. “The Way (New Horizon)” – Pat Barrett [2 / 8TH]
  6. “Resurrection Power” – Chris Tomlin [7 / 20TH]
  7. “No Matter What” – Ryan Stevenson Ft. Bart Millard [8 / 12TH]
  8. “What A Friend” – Matt Maher [6 / 14TH]
  9. “Counting Every Blessing” – Rend Collective [10 / 2ND]
  10. “Good News” – Mandisa [- / 1ST]

Elevation Worship spends a 2ND week at #1 with their catchy singalong track “Do It Again”. It climbed to # 1 last week on an unpublished chart – dethroning Pat Barrett’s “The Way” after 5 weeks at # 1.

It looks like MercyMe’s “Grace Got You” will be the next # 1 smash high atop the Billboard Christian Airplay chart – perhaps as soon as tomorrow (Tuesday) when their new chart is revealed. It could very well top this chart next Monday – or later.

This concludes my 2 blogs this weekend. It’s back to 4 blogs next weekend on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday.

Sunday Scripture

I have returned from my 2 time-zone, 2-state (Florida and Georgia), 8-day, 1,443.5-mile road-trip (business and pleasure). It’s good to be back home here in Homestead Florida – where I belong. It was also good to reunite with my church family this morning for our 11 AM service.

Today I told an amusing true story from my misadventures on the road, and I tied it in with this Scripture from Deuteronomy 11:18-21:

“So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands, and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home, and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed, and when you are getting up. Write them on the doorposts of your house, and on your gates, so that as long as the sky remains above the earth – you and your children may flourish in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors.

Keep your Bible open at all times. Refer to it. Utilize it. Read it. Study it. Memorize it. Each verse represents God’s voice. Absorb and apply God’s Good News all day every day.

It’s not enough to simply hear the Preacher preach on Sunday morning. This is not a weekly 2-hour social club. This is a new life of believing, following, learning more about, and becoming more like Jesus Christ with each new opportunity of each new day.

All Scripture is inspired by God, and is useful to teach us what is true, and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong, and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT)
