My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2007

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 01ST 2007:

  1. “Zero” – Hawk Nelson
  2. “Cross The Line” – Ruth
  3. “After The World” – Disciple
  4. “Say Your Prayers” – The Wedding
  5. “The Last Night” – Skillet

Skillet. I love them. They are one of the few acts that have secured hits on the radio and on my chart during both the Salvation Era (2006-2010) as well as the current K-LOVE Era (2017- ).

“The Last Night” was their 2ND of 8 hits on my chart and 1 of 5 hits from their huge album “Comatose” – released on October 03RD 2006 – during the 7TH week of my salvation. It was the follow-up to the first single from the album – “Rebirthing” – which soared to # 2 as I was beginning to understand my own rebirthing.

Skillet have been together for 26 years. I never heard of them until I was saved. Ever since their “Comatose” album their music has crossed-over onto mainstream rock radio – particularly away from the big cities.

I’ve seen them LIVE in concert 3 times – in 2010, 2011, and 2018. They put on a hard rockin’ show that rocks my face off for my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ !

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 25 years ago to July 1997. It’s when a quirky worldwide dance smash about two popular dolls posed at # 1 on my chart.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with 3 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2007

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday June 03RD 2007:

  1. “After The World” – Disciple
  2. “Awakening” – Switchfoot
  3. “Cross The Line” – Ruth
  4. “Say Your Prayers” – The Wedding
  5. “Fiends” – Chasing Victory

9 months into my salvation in Christ – and I was heavily into the newfound Christian rock scene via The Call – a local indie radio station at the time here in Miami-Dade County Florida. Ruth – fronted by Dustin Ruth – was one of the calmer bands on the radio at the time. They were light rock with a cool Pacific coast sound. Their album at the time – “Secondhand Dreaming” – yielded their debut smash “Cross The Line”. It was the first of 4 consecutive Top 3 hit songs on my chart. All 4 of their hits are still in active rotation on my iPod Shuffles that play at my desk at my workplace. They actually have a combined number of plays approaching 4,000 !

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 25 years ago to June 1997. It’s when a San Francisco California-based band entered my chart for the very first time. They would quickly become one of the hottest rock bands at pop radio with a short string of hits during the remainder of the 20TH Century.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend.

Here it is – for the week ending Sunday May 06TH 2007:

  1. “Procrastinating” – Stellar Kart
  2. “After The World” – Disciple
  3. “Awakening” – Switchfoot
  4. “I Love You To Death” – Family Force 5
  5. “Face Down” – Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

What an interesting Top 5 chart from exactly 15 years ago. I can’t explain that Red Jumpsuit Apparatus song at # 5. Somehow it broke-through onto my Top 25 Christian pop chart back then, but I don’t remember how it did that.

Switchfoot straddled both the mainstream pop charts as well as the Christian pop charts back in the mid-2000s. Their “Awakening” was their 5TH hit single on my chart. Their first 3 hits – “Meant To Live”, “Dare You To Move”, and “Stars” – all occurred before I knew who God is. “Awakening” tells the story of being rescued by God while at rock bottom. I can relate.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 25 years ago to May 1997. It’s when a 3-minute house-dance mash-up of 17 previous dance hits climbed to the top of radio station playlists as one of the most-requested tracks of 1997. And it was brought to you by a nationwide cable sports network.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend.

Here it is – for the week ending Sunday April 01ST 2007:

  1. “Procrastinating” – Stellar Kart
  2. “Wake Up ! Wake Up !” – Everyday Sunday
  3. “Live Like We’re Alive” – Nevertheless
  4. “Forgiven” – Relient K
  5. “After The World” – Disciple

Those are all classics of the era right there. In my 8TH month of salvation I was completely immersed in the Christian pop and rock scene via my church, local radio, and online. Every single one of those songs (and many more of the time) bring me back to a part of my life that was unlike any before it. I was a baby Christian – on fire for Christ – a few months before my 40TH birthday.

Here’s the official music video for my # 2 hit that week 15 years ago:

Sometimes I wish I could recapture a sliver of that euphoria that I experienced during those early months as a baby Christian, but God does not intend to stay in place. He wants us to keep moving forward, and keep maturing with a soul on fire for Him. Don’t be sleepwalking through endless days. Don’t be procrastinating. Live like we’re alive !

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 25 years ago to April 1997. It’s when German Eurodance was dominant on the pop charts.

This is the end of an abbreviated blog weekend, as #SundayScripture and #Top10Monday are on hiatus this weekend. They will both return next weekend. In fact a full weekend of blogging returns next weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.
