Sunday Scripture

Here’s an excerpt from my sermon today titled “Pray & Believe”:

… The Bible says “keep on praying.” That’s a short 3-word verse in First Thessalonians Chapter 5. That’s actually the New Living Translation First Edition. That verse was updated for the Second Edition from “keep on praying” to “never stop praying”. Now it doesn’t mean to pray with every single breath and every waking moment. It means don’t give up when troubles come your way. Pray.

I learned this verse early on as a baby Christian. It helped me a lot:

Don’t worry about anything. Instead – pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. (Philippians 4:6)

I’ve heard it said that worry is a conversation you have with yourself about things you can’t change. Prayer is a conversation you have with God about things He can change.

When I pray almost every sentence has the words “Thank You” in it. I thank God for the current situation. I thank the Lord for what He’s already done. I thank Him for what He’s going to do.

I like (Romans 12:12)Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

You see when we rejoice in our confident hope – when we trust in Christ – we can be patient in times of trouble. Praying to God shows God that we truly trust in Him. Praying to God from the valleys confirms to Him that we believe that He is in control, and that He is right there with us – leading us out of the valley.

So who has this confident hope ?

The Bible says – We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something – (then) we don’t need to hope for it. (We don’t need to wait for it.) (Romans 8:24)
But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have – (then) we must wait patiently and confidently.) (Romans 8:25)
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example – we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. (Romans 8:26)
And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. (Romans 8:27)

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2004

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday June 13TH 2004:

  1. “The Reason” – Hoobastank
  2. “Meant To Live” – Switchfoot
  3. “Don’t Tell Me” – Avril Lavigne
  4. “Naughty Girl” – Beyoncé
  5. “This Love” – Maroon 5

This is the debut edition of my look back at my chart from exactly 15 years ago. I’ll do this every 2ND Friday of the month.

So 15 years ago this weekend I had just turned 37 years old. I was listening to Top 40 music on South Florida’s WHYI / Y-100. (It’s the longest-running continuously-operated Top 40 radio station in North America – almost 46 years.)

Back in 2004 I did not know Jesus Christ, and I wasn’t really paying attention to the lyrics of the songs. But check it out – Switchfoot’s “Meant To Live” is at # 2. It was a crossover pop smash. It spent 31 weeks on my personal hit music chart in 2004, and it was the # 1 smash of the entire year for me.

You see God was getting ready for something big in my life a full two years before salvation commenced for me. I was listening to the music back then, and God had His Word set to the music. I didn’t know what the song meant at the time:

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves ?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves ?
Somewhere we live inside

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday afternoon and Monday night with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

This Friday June 14TH we observe Flag Day here in the U.S.A. It commemorates the adoption of our flag on this date in 1777.

This week I celebrate my 34TH anniversary working for the United States Air Force. #AimHigh

Here’s what I looked like 34 years ago:

Last night was a fun night of multitasking – watching the K-LOVE Fan Awards on TBN – and live-tweeting from start to finish. If you missed it – or if you want to watch it again (or DVR it) – then TBN will be re-airing it this upcoming Saturday night at 9 PM PDT / 12 AM (Midnight) EDT.

I cranked-out 27 tweets @ChrisMDay during the 2-hour telecast, and those 27 tweets generated over 3,300 impressions. The tweet with the most impressions (by far – not even close) was the one I did on “The Breakup Song” from Francesca Battistelli as she performed it on the show. The tweet in 2ND place was the one I did on Coach Joe Gibbs. (He won the Sports Impact Award.)

As tweeted last night only 1 of my 8 votes cast actually won. Lauren Daigle won Female Artist Of The Year, and I voted for her for that award. She also won Artist Of The Year. (I voted for MercyMe.)

I wonder if K-LOVE would give me a 3-night package for next year’s Fan Awards in Nashville if I offered my blogging and tweeting services for the duration of the weekend extravaganza ?  I shall ponder on that for awhile.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him. AMEN.
