Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday July 10TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

I love to meet new people. I also love to travel – whether it’s for a single day, or several days, or a week or more. I meet some great people on my travels – loving what they are doing. A couple of days ago I spent the day over in Naples Florida – about 110 miles away from home. I’ll share my day with you in Naples on my next #TravelThursday.

I saw this on social media a few days ago, and I thought to myself that I can use it in a future sermon. I think that most Christians have probably been in this situation many times:

Again I say – don’t get involved in foolish ignorant arguments that only start fights. A servant of the Lord must not quarrel, but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people. Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. (2 Timothy 2:23-25)

If you wish to learn more about the God I know then stay tuned to #SundayScripture. The best is yet to come !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1997

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 25 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 13TH 1997:

  1. “Barbie Girl” – Aqua
  2. “I’ll Be Missing You” – Puff Daddy & Faith Evans Ft. 112
  3. “Semi-Charmed Life” – Third Eye Blind
  4. “Call Me” – Le Click
  5. “ESPN Presents The Jock Jam” – Various Artists

Aqua – the dance band from Copenhagen Denmark that brought us “Barbie Girl” a quarter of a century ago – is still around and active. In fact they’ve been together (off-and-on) for some 33 years, and they are the biggest Danish band of all-time. They are currently on-tour performing their catalogue of hits (most of which are unknown here in the U.S.)

But “Barbie Girl” was quite MASSIVE. It shot straight-in to # 1 on my chart at the start of July of 1997, and it stayed there for the entire month. It was my # 23 hit of 1997.

Here’s its music video – with over a BILLION views on YouTube:

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 30 years ago to July 1992. It’s when the song that I’ve performed lead vocals on more than any other – on #RockBand – was at # 1 on my chart. I fell in love with its modern psychedelic sound, and I’ve been singing it for the past 30 years.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

Deering Estate

Welcome back to #TravelThursday. This week I’m here in Miami-Dade County Florida – my home of the past nearly 35 years. For this edition I’m writing about the Deering Estate – about 16 miles up the road from my home.

The Deering Estate is the former home of Mr. Charles Deering – a businessman who lived in it during the final 5 years of his life from 1922 to 1927. It currently sits on 444 acres overlooking Biscayne Bay – about 14 miles SSW of Miami in what is now the incorporated Village of Palmetto Bay. It is now owned by the State of Florida, and it is managed by Miami-Dade County. It is a national landmark listed on the National Register Of Historic Places.

I first visited the Deering Estate on March 31ST 2012, and then I visited again on April 27TH 2019 as part of a Biscayne National Park boat tour that started and ended at the Estate.

I took several tours – both inside and outside – during that 2012 visit. It was a fun day inside the historic mansions and outside on the grounds of the estate. I remember that I was the only one on the inside tour, and I told the young college-aged tour guide that he didn’t need to give a tour of the place for just me, but he insisted on doing so, and I thought that was admirable of him. He also led the outside tour several hours later, and there were a couple dozen of us on that tour.

I think after that day in 2012 at the Deering Estate I had my earliest thoughts of one day becoming a museum docent or a tour guide at a park. Here we are more than a decade later, and I’m on the verge of retiring and becoming a museum docent. (I also served inside Everglades National Park as a museum docent for two winter seasons from 2015 to 2017.)

Next #TravelThursday we’ll visit Naples – as in Naples Florida. Let’s keep traveling together.

Welcome To My Blog

Greetings my friends. It’s Wednesday July 06TH 2022, and with this special edition I begin a new weekend of blog posts.

Normally I publish new blog posts 4 times per weekend – on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays at 3 AM U.S. east coast time. (That’s 9 AM across much of Europe where many of you are reading this from.)

Each day has its own unique theme. My Thursday posts are travel-related. My Friday posts are retro music-related. My Sunday posts are Scripture-related. My Monday posts are current music-related. So my hashtags are #TravelThursday, #RetroFriday, #SundayScripture, and #Top10Monday.

A few times per year I publish occasional special posts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It all adds up to over 200 blog posts per year.

This blog has experienced steady growth over the first 6 months of 2022. If you’re new here then I welcome you. Thank You for checking it out. You may have clicked on my link on Facebook, Twitter, or Flickr. Perhaps Google or Feedspot sent you here awhile back, and you’ve been returning on a regular basis. Maybe you only read my posts on #TravelThursday, or you’re only interested in my Gospel messages on Sundays. Either way I’m glad you’re here. This is a no-judgement zone. This is also a politics-free space online. There’s plenty of judgement and politics elsewhere.

Feel free to comment with relevance on any post. You can also reach me on Twitter @ChrisMDay. Some of you have your own blogs that I check out on a regular basis. Keep doing what you do. Keep blogging alive !

I’ve been blogging since 2007, and really I was blogging for 14 years before that via my own dial-up bulletin board system (BBS) and its spinoffs on the early World Wide Web of the late-1990s into the early-2000s. It’s my favorite hobby online. But I can get too much of a good thing; hence, the typical 4-post-per-week schedule.

#TravelThursday is up next in less than 24 hours. I hope that you’ll check it out sometime during the day tomorrow.
