Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

You came here for a reason, and that reason is the sole fact that it’s Tuesday night here on this blog. Here’s what’s on my mind right this very minute:

1.  This afternoon’s 15-minute drive from work to home was more treacherous than normal due to horrendous drivers all around me. I could have been involved in nearly a dozen collisions if it weren’t for my spectacular defensive driving techniques. I’m safe like that.

2.  For the past several months my front patio area had been a haven for hundreds and hundreds of flying gnats and other assorted subtropical insects that swarmed the area (and me as I walked through them while attempting to hold my breath). That is until I had my Orkin guy hose down the area yesterday afternoon with an environmentally-friendly concoction of water and poisons. Now my front patio area is clear of pests, and I can see clearly now the bugs are gone. Thank You Orkin Dude !

3.  I got a haircut at Woody’s Barber Shop yesterday morning. My barber casually remarked about my ‘white’ hair, and then he guessed that I was about 31 or 32 years old. Once I proudly told him that I was almost 41 years old he remarked that my hair is just fine for my age. That’s how you earn a nice tip $ !

4.  EVERYONE was talking about what they were doing during that unexpected ferocious thunderstorm that plowed through most of South Miami-Dade County on Sunday night after 9 PM. It rained all night long into Monday morning, and the base officially got 2.21 inches of the wet stuff when all was said and done. Rain is good.

5.  I visited the Life Pointe Church offices today during my Lunch hour. Anne J. and Paul H. were hangin’ out with me. Jesse S. was working on ‘special projects’ behind closed doors in his office. Enjoy it while it lasts Jesse. You won’t have your own office at the new place.  😉

6.  I am convinced that Anne J. and Paul H. know more about cell phones and computers than I do. I think that most people under the age of 40 know more about cell phones and computers than I do. My professional occupation may be that of a Computer Systems Administrator, but that’s actually not my original job. The roots of my current job can be traced back to when I originally started out as a Data Analyst / Statistician. I’ll be utilizing some of those real skills o’ mine for some new projects for Life Pointe Church that I can’t wait to get started on.

7.  ‘The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club’ has apparently inspired Pastor Travis to do a month-long message series at Life Pointe Church based on the original concept. Hey it was either that or ‘The Road Rage Files’. It makes more sense to do the former.

8.  “The Simpsons” has been yanked off of a Venezuelan TV channel because it may be inappropriate for children. It’s been replaced by – “Baywatch Hawaii“. Read more about it.

9.  I grabbed the Southwest Taco Salad at Wendy’s for the first time ever today. It was unlike anything I expected. I ate the whole thing, but I probably won’t get that ever again. It’s just not my thing. It was too spicy for me. I’m not into spicy. I’m a member of the bland nation.

10.  Can you believe that next Tuesday night will mark the 6-month anniversary of these ‘Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts’ ?  Time flies when you’re thinking out loud !

Bedtime Stories

Greetings Friends. It’s time for the 30TH edition of the ever-so-popular ‘Bedtime Stories’ series here on this blog. ‘Bedtime Stories’ is kind of like my version of ‘The Tonight Show‘ – a long-running staple that you can always depend on to be there with a fresh new edition on most nights.

The ‘Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad’ is pretty much my ‘Meet The Press‘ on here. If it’s Sunday – then it’s ‘Tossed Salad’ day !

I’m not the only dude that recaps his Sunday morning experiences at Life Pointe Church. Pastor Travis created the concept. Check out his ‘Sunday Wrap-Up’. Trav’s real bro Phil (P.J.) has run with his ‘Sunday Life Pointe Talk Soup’ for 5 weeks now. And then there’s the ‘Ritz Crackah‘ who has his ‘Sunday Goosfaba’. (‘Goosfaba’ is a variation of ‘Goosfraba’ which is an Eskimo word that was made famous in the 2003 box office smash ‘Anger Management‘.)

I’ll be back at work bright and early tomorrow morning to kick-off a fresh new week at my job. I’m making it a special point to get away from the base during the Lunch hour to finally get a haircut and then to eat Chinese Food for Lunch. Be sure to check out ‘The Fortune Cookie Message Of The Week Club’ tomorrow (Monday) afternoon.

Have a safe and peaceful Sunday night everyone, and until we hang out again here on the blog remember this:

Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad

1.  Neither Anne J. nor myself were the first to arrive this morning at the movie theatre. Pastor Paul beat both of us. He was determined to build that Information Booth piece by piece in no time flat like nobody else can !

2.  At precisely 8:58 AM I turned on the two-minute countdown at the laptop that controls the small video screen at the Information Booth, and the loud Christian punk anthem that plays totally frightened Anne J. as she was standing right in front of the screen and the stereo speakers. She recovered nicely from the momentary fright-fest and proceeded to do a little bit of the ‘robot dance’ circa 1982. If you snoozed then you missed it !

3.  It was Luciana and I that rocked the Kids Life Registration tables before and during the 9 AM service. Luci led, and I followed her lead. I filled in for the vacationing Lisa Trinidad. We prayed for her safe return back home to Homestead and Life Pointe Church real soon.

4.  Pastor Travis led this week’s teaching for Week 3 of our current ‘Simply Jesus’ message series entitled ‘Why Did Jesus’ Mom Need To Be A Virgin ?’ We learned about 7 items that Scripture does NOT teach us about the Virgin Birth of Jesus:
– That Mary did not have a normal delivery. (Yes she did.)
– That Mary remained a virgin for the rest of her life. (No she didn’t.)
– That Jesus’ virgin birth was a myth taken from other religions. (No.)
– That belief in the virgin birth proves the deity of Jesus. (No.)
– That our sin nature is only passed through the male line. (No.)
– That Mary ‘mixed it up’ with God. (No she didn’t.)
– That the virgin birth is unimportant. (It is important.)

5.  Some people have elevated Mary to a position that is virtually equal with Jesus while other people have diminished her importance. Mary should not be an object of faith. She should be an example of faith for all Christians, as she loved God, was a woman of prayer, and lived in holiness as marked by her virginity up until marriage.

6.  This afternoon about 3 dozen of us jam-packed into Travis & Kelly‘s dining room to eat CiCi’s Pizza and brownies and discuss the ‘Moonlight Easter Egg Hunt‘ of 16 nights ago. We’re going to do it all over again in April 2009, and we’re going to do it bigger and better next year with a whole lot of planning and with a whole lot of help from our friends. We’ll be starting up a fresh new blog for the sole purpose of planning next year’s MASSIVE event, so that we can instantly interact with each other online on how to make it all happen.
