Sunday Scripture

IMG_3279

Today – the 2ND Sunday of October – is traditionally recognized as Pastor Appreciation Day, and we didn’t forget. We honored our Lead Pastor Bob and his lovely wife Julie with a card, a gift, a song, and a gratitude of thanks for all they do to lead us to Christ.

Incidentally we’re about to embark on a major renovation of our sanctuary that you see in the photo above. That includes doubling the size of our stage and raising it by about 9 inches, replacing the large pulpit with a modern acrylic podium, completely redoing the stage background with dark covering / shading, purchasing large flat-screen TVs for both ends of the stage, removing all of the ceiling fans and replacing all of the lighting above, replacing all of the wooden pews with portable chairs, and replacing the red carpet. The entire color scheme of our sanctuary will change to a darker tone. Needless to say our sanctuary will be a construction zone for the next many months, but once it’s all done we’ll have the look and feel of a 21ST Century Church. God’s church. God’s glory.

I’ve updated my SERMONS page here on my blog site. I believe I’m preaching my sermon on Cain & Abel next Sunday titled “Wander & Create”. I’m also writing my next sermon after that on the first 10 verses of James 4. That’s titled “War & Peace”. Here’s an excerpt that I wrote last night:

The devil wants to be closer to you – just like he used to be. He wants to be in your heart – just like he used to be. He wants to manipulate you – just like he used to do. He wants you to carry out his sinful actions – his dirty deeds – just like you used to do.

You must resist the devil and his temptations. You must declare war on the devil. When you do – he will flee from you – temporarily. Oh he’s not giving up on you. The devil never gives up. He’ll just go away for a little while, and then eventually come up and come back with a new strategy that exploits your vulnerabilities – your weaknesses.

That’s why you must submit yourself to God. Declare God as the sole authority in your life. When you do that you draw closer to God, and you move further away from Satan.

I like several verses in Psalm 16:

Keep me safe – O God, for I have come to You for refuge. (Psalm 16:1)
I said to the LORD, “You are my Master !  All the good things I have are from You.” (Psalm 16:2)
I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. (Psalm 16:8)

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 12TH 2008:

  1. “The Sky” – Showbread
  2. “Put Your Lips To The TV” – Project 86
  3. “Stop It” – The Almost
  4. “I Can’t Stand To Fall” – Philmont
  5. “Sleeping In” – Nevertheless

Hurricane Michael made landfall earlier this week as a borderline Category 4 / Category 5 along the Florida Panhandle east of Panama City and Tyndall AFB at the small town of Mexico Beach. There’s catastrophic destruction all across the region. It’ll never look the same again. I’ve been praying for the safety and security of my fellow Floridians up there since the storm was a mere unnamed Tropical Wave off the Yucatan Peninsula headed northward towards the Gulf Coast. May God provide peace and comfort to those living through the aftermath of this storm.

Florida is a very wide state from northwest to southeast. I live in the far southeast corner of the state – between Miami and Key Largo (closer to the latter). Landfall was nearly 600 miles away from me. There was no effect here. We’ve been lucky all season here, and we hope that luck continues.

It’s halftime. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with my remaining two blogs for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thank You for your time.

  2. “You Say” – Lauren Daigle [3 / 6TH]

  10. “Everything” – TobyMac [8 / 9TH]

Happy Columbus Day (U.S.A.) and Happy Thanksgiving Day (Canada) !

Casting Crowns are holding tough at # 1, but Lauren Daigle is coming up strong at # 2. My Lead Pastor Bob played the entire lyric video for “You Say” during a powerful segment of his sermon “I Believe” yesterday, and I sang along to it. Right after that he played the entire music video for Chris Tomlin’s “God’s Great Dance Floor” – and a dance party unexpectedly broke out in the sanctuary. I felt like I was back at my old twentysomething church again !

I’m still waiting for my copy of the brand new for King & Country album “Burn The Ships” to arrive in my (old-fashioned) mailbox. (I got a free copy for buying a concert ticket to their upcoming show in Southwest Florida in December.)

This concludes my weekend of 4 blog posts. Next weekend I’ll do it again on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest. Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May God bless you – always and forever.

Communion

Today I got choked-up leading my church family in Communion. It was a spiritual moment. It was an emotional moment. But that’s not why I got choked-up. It was an imperfect human moment at the time.

After I distributed the elements to my church family we took the bread:

“Let us take this bread, and know that it represents the sacred body of Christ that was given up for us on that cross. We take this bread in remembrance of Him.”

I took the bread (looks identical to the photo above), and much of it went down the wrong tubes of my throat. I lost my voice right then and there. The body of Christ had left me speechless. I couldn’t wait to get to the blood of Christ so that I could clear / wash my throat properly. It took me a short little while to get my voice partially back so that I could continue our ceremony:

“Let us take this juice, and know that it represents the precious blood of Christ that was shed for us on that cross. We take this juice in honor of Him.”

My Communion today was based on Acts 26:13-18 when Saul first “met” Jesus, believed in Him, became the Apostle Paul, and began his ministry.

We’ve all got great stories of how we first “met” our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Each and every one of us have a message and a testimony. We are triumphant. We are victorious. We are miracles. We are recipients of God’s grace and mercy.

It’s important that we share our testimony – not just with our brothers and sisters of this church family, but with our neighbors out there who do not yet know the God we know. He commands us to go and tell. That’s what disciples do, and we are all disciples of Christ.
