Final Weekend Of 2018

Greetings Readers !  It’s the start of the final weekend of 2018 here on my blog, and I’m going out with a bang. I’ve got 5 new blog posts for you (starting with this one). Tomorrow night I’ll go #Retro back to the final weekend of 2008. Saturday is my day of rest. On Sunday I’ll present my normal “Sunday Scripture”. On Monday it’s my final Top 10 music chart of the year. On Tuesday (New Year’s Day) I’ll kickoff 2019 with a special bonus blog post featuring my Top 18 hits of 2018.

So keep checking-in to this blog for all-new material including new tweets and photos. My active Twitter and Flickr feeds (last 5 tweets and last 5 photos respectively) can be seen along the right-side panel on the web site edition of this blog at majorhitwaves.wordpress.com.

In addition to my 5-blog-post weekend I also plan to (need to) get back into the sermon-writing business. December was not a very good month for me in this area of my ministry. I preached my 12TH sermon of the year back on Sunday December 02ND. I actually wrote much of it while on vacation in Ohio in November. I also wrote about half of my next sermon that I plan to preach. That’s pretty much where the forward momentum stalled. I need to complete my half-written sermon – tentatively titled “Now & Later”, but I may change it to “Present & Future” based on its recurring theme. Once I get that sermon completed, enhanced, and finalized I need to do a quick turnaround and write my next sermon after that. So let me get me started with all of that instead of merely blogging about it !

# 1 One Year Ago This Week – “Control (Somehow You Want Me)” – Tenth Avenue North

Last Thursday night in Estero Florida (between Fort Myers and Naples) I saw for King & Country and Zach Williams LIVE in concert.

Neon Feather opened the show a full 30 minutes before showtime. I had never heard of him before. He’s a trance, techno, and house deejay for Christ, and he remixes Christian tracks for other popular artists. He was very good, and I’m qualified to say that with my own background in that genre of music (before salvation). I plan to check out some of his dance remixes online.

Caitie Hurst was the next artist up at showtime (7 PM), and I had never heard of her before either. Neon Feather was one of her musicians. She was pretty good too. Her music was poppy and danceable.

Zach Williams was up next, and he plowed through 7 songs in a row including his first 4 big chart hits. He even threw in an original Christmas song. He sounded really good, and his band was awesome too. He’s becoming one of the biggest male stars in Christian radio, and deservedly so. I love hearing his story of salvation.

for King & Country was the headliner that the several thousand in attendance went crazy for (particularly little kids and teenaged girls). I’ve said it a few times before. I’ve never really been a fan of them or their music until just recently. Zach Williams was actually the selling point for me for this show, but as the concert approached I became more and more of a fan of the duo. They performed 4 Christmas songs, 9 of their hits (5 classics and 4 new ones from their new album), and 6 more Christmas songs (including “joy”). For much of their performance I was up on my feet singing along, clapping my hands, and dancing. (I had a floor seat very near the extended stage.)

It was an awesome 4-hour show on that Thursday night – one to remember for awhile.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 3 blog posts on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Sunday Scripture

20181216 Sermon

On this 3RD Sunday of December our Lead Pastor Bob continued his “Journey To The Cross” sermon series with Scripture from God’s Word in Luke 19:37-42. We learned about the final year of Christ’s ministry, and how His journey led Him to the Garden of Gethsemane.

This was my final Sunday with my church family before Christmas. I’ll be on a short Christmas vacation next weekend up in an area of South Central Florida that I may call home in about 5 years – if it’s in God’s will for me. (I’m currently writing my next sermon about my plans into the future – versus God’s plans for me.)

“Sunday Scripture” returns in 2 weeks on Sunday December 30TH. I’ll be back tomorrow night with Week 96 of my Top 10 hits. Could there be a brand new # 1 smash at the top ?

May the everlasting love of our Creator, the peace of the newborn Christ, and the overwhelming joy of the Spirit be with you during this Christmas season and beyond.
