Monster Mash

That’s from the Saturday October 31ST 1964 edition of “American Bandstand” on ABC-TV hosted by the late great Dick Clark, and that’s guest Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett performing his # 1 smash “Monster Mash”. What a fascinating facial performance that is too !

It was actually the # 1 smash all across the U.S. 2 years earlier during the week leading up to Halloween of 1962 (during the Cuban Missile Crisis), but just like in 1964 and every year since then it’s the unofficial radio song of Halloween. I even add it to my iPod Shuffles that play at my workplace. I usually add it right around October 01ST of each year, and it plays almost every day all month long.

Come November 01ST (tomorrow) I’ll remove “Monster Mash” from my iPod Shuffles playlist, and I’ll add about a half-dozen Christmas songs. ‘Tis the season …

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Only Jesus” – Casting Crowns

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Word Of Life” – Jeremy Camp

No new entries this week as K-LOVE continued their Fall Pledge Drive with limited music during the week. As they return to their regular programming their playlist should be freshened a bit with less recurrents and more new music.

You may be wondering just how much K-LOVE I listen to in a typical day. Well I awake to it each morning, as my bedside radio plays low all night long. I’m listening while taking a shower, and putting on my clothes for the day. On work days I listen to it for about 30 minutes during my 7-mile drive to work. That’s right it takes me almost a half-hour to drive 7 miles. The drive home in the afternoon is a bit quicker – close to 20 minutes – and I’m listening to K-LOVE. I’m listening when I get home – as I change out of my work clothes. I listen again while I brush my teeth later in the evening, and then K-LOVE plays low all night long. So aside from the nighttime listening while I sleep I estimate that I listen to K-LOVE an average of about 100 minutes per day.

Oh yeah – I should add that K-LOVE is the only radio station that I listen to at home and in my car. I discovered K-LOVE on Presidents’ Day of 2017, and I’ve been listening to it ever since then. That’s when this chart was resurrected – 140 weeks ago.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May the God of hope fill you completely with joy and peace as you trust in Him.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1989

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 29TH 1989:

  1. “Sowing The Seeds Of Love” – Tears For Fears
  2. “Cover Girl” – New Kids On The Block
  3. “Puss N’ Boots / These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” – Kon Kan
  4. “Cherish” – Madonna
  5. “We Didn’t Start The Fire” – Billy Joel

30 years ago this weekend Tears For Fears hit # 1 on my chart with their Beatles-sounding anthem that’s actually a politically-charged song that takes aim at late-1980s British politics. “Sowing The Seeds Of Love” hit # 1 in Canada and # 2 here in the U.S.

“Puss N’ Boots” was the 3RD of 3 big hit singles in a row for the Canadian duo known as Kon Kan. It peaked 30 years ago this weekend at # 3, and it followed-up the # 2 hit “Harry Houdini” which followed-up the # 1 smash “I Beg Your Pardon”. How durable is that “Puss N’ Boots” track ?  It’s currently in heavy rotation at my workplace on my iPod Shuffles. I heard it today. I sang along to it. It still sounds as fresh as it did back in 1989.

Next Friday is November 01ST, and so I’ll start over again with RETRO. I’ll take a look back at my chart from exactly 10 years ago in 2009.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Top 10 Hits – Week 140

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 20TH 2019:

  1. “Fear No More” – Building 429 [# 1 last week / 12TH week on chart]
  2. “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West [2 / 12TH]
  3. “I’m Gonna Let It Go” – Jason Gray [5 / 11TH]
  4. “Burn The Ships” – for King & Country [3 / 5TH]
  5. “Up Again” – Dan Bremnes [4 / 4TH]
  6. “Faith” – Jordan Feliz [9 / 2ND]
  7. “Echo” – Elevation Worship Ft. Tauren Wells [6 / 5TH]
  8. “Yes I Will” – Vertical Worship [7 / 10TH]
  9. “Dead Man Walking” – Jeremy Camp [8 / 14TH]
  10. “Better” – Pat Barrett [10 / 2ND]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Only Jesus” – Casting Crowns

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Word Of Life” – Jeremy Camp

This past week was Week 1 (of 2) of the Fall Pledge Drive on K-LOVE, so they played much less music per hour with a heavier concentration of recurrents (hits from more than 6 months ago). This week’s chart reflects the lack of new activity on the radio; although, Jordan Feliz does make a surprising 3-notch jump to # 6 with his “Faith”.

Jason Gray is still going strong with his reggae-sounding track, “I’m Gonna Let It Go”. It’s back in the Top 3 again.

Last night at 8 PM EDT TBN aired the 50TH Annual GMA Dove Awards. If you were one of the many who followed my LIVE tweeting @ChrisMDay then I thank you for watching the show with me, and if you were like me – singing and dancing along to the musical acts. If you missed it on TV then be sure to catch its rebroadcast (or set your DVR) for next Sunday October 27TH at 1 AM EDT.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.
