Sunday Scripture

This morning I preached a sermon titled “Wisdom & Temptation”. Here are my highlights:

  • You’re gonna need God’s wisdom to make many of life’s decisions.
  • When you ask God for guidance, for direction, for wisdom, for a way forward – do not waver. Listen to the Lord. Trust in the Lord.
  • Admit that you need God. Say it out loud, “I NEED YOU GOD !”
  • God hates pride. It’s 1 of the 7 deadly sins, but it may be the worst of them all, as it causes all other sins.
  • God loves humility. Humility cures pride. Humility crushes egos. Humility opens hearts. Humility invites wisdom.
  • Wisdom is seeing life from God’s point-of-view.
  • God loves to give us wisdom. God is pleased when we are thankful. He loves to see His children showing trust and faith in Him. That’s how we worship God.
  • God’s trials will help you grow in faith. His trials make our faith stronger.
  • The devil’s temptations will cause you to sin. Sin separates us from God.
  • God is not responsible at all for the hate and evil in the world.
  • God is perfect in every way on every day. The devil is not. All evil comes from Satan.
  • Temptation is the work of the devil – and his dirty deeds – done dirt cheap.
  • The devil uses desire – which leads to deception – which causes disobedience – which leads to death.
  • The devil is real. The devil is a liar. The devil steals and kills and destroys.

Read James 1:2-8, 12-15; Proverbs 8:13, 11:2, 2:6, 9:11-12; Colossians 2:8; Hebrews 11:6; Deuteronomy 32:4; 1 Corinthians 10:13

Sunday Scripture

Starting with this edition I’d like to start something new on Sundays. I’d like to share Scripture with you that I shared with my church family earlier in the day.

Every Sunday I open our service with Scripture and Prayer, and I close our service the same way. I also bring forward and pray over our Tithes & Offerings. I lead Communion every first Sunday of the month. About once per month (usually on the first Sunday of the month) I preach full sermons. I’m currently working on a new sermon that I’ll be preaching probably next Sunday. It’s the 2ND sermon of an evolving message series I’m working on out of the Book Of James. It’s tentatively titled “Wisdom & Temptation”.

This week I preached this from Psalm 145:1-3 (NLT):

I will exalt You – my God and King – and I will praise Your name forever and ever. I will praise You every day. Yes – I will praise You forever. Great is the LORD !  He is most worthy of praise !  No one can measure His greatness.

3 new entries this week – led by Chris Tomlin with his follow-up to his long-running # 1 smash from last year – “Home”. Although it only spent 2 weeks at # 1 it was on my Top 10 for 20 weeks. We’ll see if “Resurrection Power” has staying power like that. Zach Williams is back with his follow-up to “Old Church Choir”. It spent a couple of months at # 1 on national weekly Christian music charts based on radio airplay, but it only managed a # 2 peak (for a single week) on my chart. Tauren Wells enters at # 10 with his latest “When We Pray” which is slowly growing on me due to its powerful message that’ll preach – (“… all the world starts changing – when the church starts praying …”).

Here’s me preaching yesterday at Living Waters Full Gospel Church in Homestead Florida. That’s the name of my sermon right there – “Faith & Patience”. It was mostly based on James 1:1-6.

Faith & Patience

James 1:2-4 (NLT) – Dear brothers and sisters – when troubles come your way – consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested – your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed – you will be perfect and complete – needing nothing.
