Sunday Scripture

I’ve begun writing my 22ND sermon – the 19TH of which will be preached to my church family sometime soon. (I’ve actually written 3 sermons that I’ve determined aren’t ready to be preached – for various reasons.)

My new sermon that I started writing yesterday is titled “War & Peace”, and it’ll likely be based on James 4:1-10. It continues my message series on the Book of James which I started in February. (This will be my 9TH sermon in this series.)

Here are 3 working paragraphs that I’ve written thus far based on James 4:1:

… Fast forward not quite 2,000 years into the future. It’s 2018. What do we have in the world today ?  We have Christians inside God’s Kingdom who look and act no different than non-Christians of the world. We have churches squabbling internally about silly things. We have megachurches looking down on small churches as irrelevant. We have small churches chastising megachurches as secular or worldly. We have churches competing with each other instead of uniting with one another. We have religions and denominations – and their respective rules – working against each other. We have church leaders preaching on how much we sin – and how much the world sins – as they get caught in years of sin.

No wonder non-believers and non-followers of Christ walk away from us instead of towards us. The hard truth is that many of our neighbors out there love God, but they don’t care too much for His followers – because of what they hear and see from us. I speak from personal experience here. I felt that way up until 12 years ago. I’ve always believed in God’s existence. Even when I didn’t follow Him – I’ve always believed that He existed. But I didn’t care so much for His people and for His churches. That is – until I became His follower – and then 5 months later – became part of His church family.

In my first year on this fantastic journey I fell in love with God – first – before family – before friends – before the workplace. Once I joined a church family I discovered that God commanded me to love everyone – genuinely – believers and non-believers alike. I don’t think that a lot of our neighbors out there know that we love them – and that God loves them – unconditionally – eternally …

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1998

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday August 30TH 1998:

  1. “The Way” – Fastball
  2. “I Want You Back” – ‘N Sync
  3. “Tearin’ Up My Heart” – ‘N Sync
  4. “When The Lights Go Out” – 5ive
  5. “Hey Now Now” – Swirl 360

Remember 5ive – England’s answer to ‘N Sync ?  5ive eventually went to 4our, and now they are still around as 3hree, but they still call themselves 5ive. They are pushing 40. Back when they were pushing 20 they scored a bunch of hits in a row in their native U.K., but they are a 1-hit wonder here stateside. That’s their hit – “When The Lights Go Out”.

20 years ago this week Barenaked Ladies had the week’s fastest climber on my chart – up 20 notches from # 39 to # 19 with “One Week”.  It actually tied Hootie And The Blowfish‘s “I Will Wait” – also up 20 notches from # 40 to # 20.

20 years ago this week Goo Goo Dolls topped the Billboard Hot 100 with “Iris”.

It’s halftime. I’ll be back on Sunday with Scripture, and then on Monday it’s my brand new Top 10 music chart. Enjoy your Saturday. Be safe. Have fun. Love all. Live life.

Social Media Roundup

Happy Thursday my friends !  It’s the start of a new weekend here at “Saturday Night Retro”, as weekends always begin on Thursdays. This is a HUGE weekend of blogging for me with 5 new blogs instead of the usual 4. Remember I don’t blog on Saturdays, as that’s my day of rest and personal time with God.

When I’m not blogging you can catch me on some of my other social media platforms:

Facebook – I’ve been there since the end of March of 2013. I was one of the last of my friends to join Facebook. When I abandoned WordPress I took my blog over there. At first my blog was very popular, but then as we entered the 2016 election season here in the U.S. it was overshadowed by the type of material that has pretty much taken over Facebook – politically-charged opinions and memes, fake news, and Internet hoaxes. I no longer post new material over there, but I do like, love, haha, wow, and comment other people’s non-political posts occasionally.

Twitter – I just celebrated my 9TH anniversary over there. I was on Twitter before nearly all of my friends were on Twitter. I’m @ChrisMDay, and I’ve tweeted 7,398 times since the very start. You don’t even have to go to Twitter to read my most recent tweets. Check them out on the web edition of this blog over on the right-hand column.

Flickr – I’ve been there for the past 7½ years, and that’s where I “Instagram”. (I’ve actually never signed-up for an Instagram site.) There are over a couple thousand captioned photos there for your viewing pleasure – most of them taken while on various vacations around the world. You can check out my Photostream (most recent photos added) or my Albums (photos grouped together by location or subject). On the web edition of this blog over on the right-hand column you can view the last 3 photos added just below the last 10 tweets.

Myspace – No – I’m not on Myspace anymore. I was there briefly for about 6 months in 2007. That’s where this blog was born. I posted 310+ blog entries on Myspace before I moved on up to WordPress. Myspace is still around, but all of those early blog entries are long gone.

WordPress – And so here we are. I was very active on here from the end of 2007 through 2008 and 2009. After that initial “surge” (1,300+ blog entries posted) the activity simmered down quite a bit as I discovered and immersed myself into the wonderful world of tweeting in 140 characters or less. This site was completely inactive for over 5 years. After my Facebook reign ended at the end of 2017 I decided to stop blogging completely. Yeah that didn’t last. On January 15TH 2018 I quietly resurrected this blog on this site. It’s been worth it. This is my 104TH blog entry since that new beginning. I’m enjoying writing each new blog entry, and I have an all-new audience now. I’ve also discovered at least 25 new blogs (from those of you reading this) that are similar to mine that I enjoy checking out. Keep up the great work with your blogs, and I’ll keep the blogs coming over here.

The Major’s Top 10 Hits – Week 80

Every Monday night I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday August 26TH 2018:

  1. “Who You Say I Am” – Hillsong Worship [# 1 last week / 5TH week on chart]
  2. “Do It Again” – Elevation Worship [3 / 17TH]
  3. “Grace Got You” – MercyMe [4 / 21ST]
  4. “Everything” – TobyMac [5 / 3RD]
  5. “Known” – Tauren Wells [7 / 3RD]
  6. “The Breakup Song” – Francesca Battistelli [6 / 7TH]
  7. “Dream Small” – Josh Wilson [2 / 13TH]
  8. “Heaven On Earth” – Stars Go Dim [8 / 6TH]
  9. “Wherever I Go” – Dan Bremnes [9 / 8TH]
  10. “Even Then” – Micah Tyler [10 / 2ND]

We’ve made it to Week 80 of this current Christian pop era of my personal hit music chart – mostly inspired by Positive & Encouraging K-LOVE. (Occasionally I tune-in to The Message on SiriusXM.)

Top 3 Highlights:  Elevation Worship’s “Do It Again” spends its 15TH non-consecutive week in my Top 3. MercyMe’s “Grace Got You” is now the # 1 smash in the entire 80-week rebirthing of my chart.

Tauren Wells reaches my Top 5 for the first time ever. Tauren describes his hit in this way – “Known” was inspired by a quote from Timothy Keller that says “to be loved and not known is comforting but superficial. To be known but not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and fully loved is a lot like being loved by God.” It is amazing to me that God could see me in my entirety and love me fully. That is ridiculous grace – as the song says – and yet He loves me so much that He confronts me with His truth so that I can become more like Him. That is very special.

This concludes my 4 blogs this weekend. I’ll be back next weekend with all-new blogs on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday, and a special blog on Tuesday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest. Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to win souls for Christ. Enjoy this week. Love God’s children just as He loves you unconditionally.
