The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1988

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 09TH 1988:

  1. “Somewhere In My Heart” – Aztec Camera
  2. “Kokomo” – The Beach Boys
  3. “With A Little Help From My Friends” – Wet Wet Wet
  4. “Sign Your Name” – Terence Trent D’arby
  5. “Don’t Be Cruel” – Cheap Trick

I’m coming up on the 31ST anniversary of when I left the United Kingdom behind and returned stateside. I lived over there for exactly 2 years and 1 week, and it was the ultimate experience of a lifetime living as a young American in a foreign country. My favorite part of living there was the British pop music scene. I attended the first 17 music concerts of my life during my time in England. I often state that my best 2 years as a teenager – was when I was 19 and 20 over there.

The British pop music scene followed me across the sea and invaded America in 1988 (see any Billboard chart from that year). This song didn’t quite make it over here, but it was my # 1 smash 30 years ago this weekend:

It’s halftime. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with my remaining two blogs for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Make memories of a lifetime that will have you looking back at them fondly some 30 years from now !

Columbus Day Weekend

It’s the start of a fresh new weekend here on my blog with 4 brand new blog posts – starting with this one. Weekends always start on Thursdays and end on Mondays here at “Saturday Night Retro”.

Monday is Columbus Day here in the U.S., and it’s Thanksgiving Day up in Canada. Enjoy the long weekend and the holiday – wherever you are.

Today after work I’m gonna go see one of the biggest box office comedy smash hits in history – “Crazy Rich Asians“. I’ll be seeing it in its 51ST day of release. Most movies don’t make it past 21 days at the movie theatres. I’ve heard this movie packs in the laughs with a lot of love as well. Sounds like a fun 2 hours !

On Friday I’ll bring the #Retro back to this weekend in 1988. Saturday is my day of rest. I’ll be working on my next sermon – a standalone sermon on Cain (of Cain & Abel fame). My message series on the Book Of James will resume in December or January. I’ll also be working on Communion which I’ll be leading my church family in this Sunday. I’m back with “Sunday Scripture” in the afternoon, and then on Monday it’s my brand new Top 10 weekly hit music chart.

So that’s a preview of my weekend. Thank You for reading or following my blog !

The Major’s Top 10 Hits – Week 85

Every Monday night I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday September 30TH 2018:

  1. “Only Jesus” – Casting Crowns [# 1 last week / 5TH week on chart]
  2. “Who You Say I Am” – Hillsong Worship [2 / 10TH]
  3. “You Say” – Lauren Daigle [8 / 5TH]
  4. “Even Then” – Micah Tyler [4 / 7TH]
  5. “Do It Again” – Elevation Worship [3 / 22ND]
  6. “Wherever I Go” – Dan Bremnes [5 / 13TH]
  7. “Known” – Tauren Wells [6 / 8TH]
  8. “Everything” – TobyMac [7 / 8TH]
  9. “Survivor” – Zach Williams [9 / 2ND]
  10. “Not Today” – Hillsong United [10 / 2ND]

Looks like we’re getting ready to lose Elevation Worship from my chart. Its impressive chart run includes 4 weeks at # 1, 10 weeks at # 2, and 5 weeks at # 3. It’s the # 1 smash of 2018, and (spoiler alert) – it’ll likely still be the # 1 smash of the entire year when I count-up my Top 18 hits of 2018 on a special Tuesday January 01ST 2019 blog post. (That’s exactly 3 months from today.)

I’ll be seeing TobyMac again – LIVE in concert – right here in South Florida this upcoming February. TobyMac was # 1 on my chart on the night that I saw him in concert in Tallahassee in February of 2017. In fact “Love Broke Thru” resurrected and christened this chart as the only song on that very first chart. (The following week my chart expanded to a Top 3 – and then a Top 5 the week after that – and then a Top 10 in its 4TH week.)

This concludes my shortened weekend of 2 blog posts. Next weekend it’s back to 4 blog posts on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest. Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May God bless you – always and forever.

Sunday Scripture

I have returned home to South Florida after 5 days in North Texas and in the air between the two distinct regions. I enjoyed my time with my family out west, and I’ll start posting photos of my trip on Flickr (which will also cross-post here on the web site edition of this blog).

Due to maintenance problems my early-morning flight from Miami to Dallas left nearly an hour late – and that was enough to miss my connecting flight to Wichita Falls Texas. That gave me a 5-hour layover at #DFW instead of the expected 1-hour layover. That was plenty of time to enjoy an early-Lunch and read a book that I’ve been blessed with – “How To Worship A King” by Zach Neese.

Due to weather problems (fog) my mid-morning flight from Wichita Falls to Dallas left 3 hours late – completely wiping-out my expected 3-hour layover at #DFW. I walked briskly (and used Skylink) from Terminal B to C. As I was approaching the gate for my connecting flight to Miami they were already calling for all passengers in all groups to board. I barely made my connecting flight with minutes to spare.

I’ll be flying again in 41 days, and hopefully it will go much more smoothly and expected than otherwise.

Wherever you go and whatever you do – you will be blessed. (Deuteronomy 28:6 NLT)
