The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

  1. Friend Like That – Hawk Nelson
  2. Southern Weather – The Almost
  3. I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead – The Wedding
  4. Medicine – The Fold
  5. Casting Off – This Beautiful Republic

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 10 years ago this weekend – Sunday March 02ND 2008.

I loved The Wedding as a baby Christian a decade ago. Their hits “Morning Air” (# 2 in 2007), “Say Your Prayers” (# 2 in 2007), “Staring At The Light” (# 1 in 2007), “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead” (# 3 in 2008), “Receive” (# 20 in 2008), and “Return” (#3 in 2009) rocked my face off back then with their fusion of pop, punk, and rock celebrating God’s Glory.

Next Friday night I’ll take RETRO back another 10 years to March of 1998 – back when I had no clue about God.

I’m preaching a full sermon to my church family this Sunday. I’ve got the sermon written. I just need to spend tonight and much of tomorrow editing, enhancing, and rehearsing it. I’ll share some of it with you this Sunday here on my blog.

To all of my new readers and followers worldwide I thank you so much for spending some of your time reading about my fantastic journey. My life changed forever during the 3RD week of August of 2006, and I wish to testify and preach about it for the rest of my days here on Earth.

No new entries this week, and it’s a slow chart week with 6 non-movers.

So I discovered Christian music on the radio back during the Summer of 2006. It’s what God used to rescue and save me. My salvation began the moment I switched over my car radio to The Call FM (91.7) here in South Florida – not knowing that it was a Christian pop, rock, and hip hop radio station. At that time I didn’t even know what salvation was.

Prior to my rebirthing 11½ years ago I was a secular TOP 40 music zealot. That era pretty much spanned over 35 years – going back to my early childhood. For a couple of years during the early-2000s I got in to the electronic dance music scene, and my weekly personal hit music chart morphed in to a pure dance music chart – saturated with trance and techno hits from around the world. That was fun – for a season.

Nowadays God is in control of my life, and my favorite music is of The Truth.

Sunday Scripture

Starting with this edition I’d like to start something new on Sundays. I’d like to share Scripture with you that I shared with my church family earlier in the day.

Every Sunday I open our service with Scripture and Prayer, and I close our service the same way. I also bring forward and pray over our Tithes & Offerings. I lead Communion every first Sunday of the month. About once per month (usually on the first Sunday of the month) I preach full sermons. I’m currently working on a new sermon that I’ll be preaching probably next Sunday. It’s the 2ND sermon of an evolving message series I’m working on out of the Book Of James. It’s tentatively titled “Wisdom & Temptation”.

This week I preached this from Psalm 145:1-3 (NLT):

I will exalt You – my God and King – and I will praise Your name forever and ever. I will praise You every day. Yes – I will praise You forever. Great is the LORD !  He is most worthy of praise !  No one can measure His greatness.

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1988

  1. Never Gonna Give You Up – Rick Astley
  2. Need You Tonight – INXS
  3. Father Figure – George Michael
  4. Foolish Beat – Debbie Gibson
  5. Hungry Eyes – Eric Carmen

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 30 years ago this weekend – Sunday February 28TH 1988.

On “American Top 40” Casey Kasem revealed the new # 1 smash from coast to coast as “Father Figure” from George Michael.

Casey Kasem was my idol growing up. I began listening to his countdown during the late-1970s on WPGC-FM (Washington D.C.) and WCAO-AM (Baltimore MD). I lived between the two cities. I’d write down the songs as he counted them down. 40 years ago this Sunday Casey revealed “Stayin’ Alive” from The Bee Gees as the # 1 smash in the U.S.A.

I didn’t get to be America’s favorite radio deejay as I envisioned all of those years ago, but I get to do this on social media.

I’ve been producing my own personal weekly hit music chart off and on for the past 30+ years. Next Friday it’s back to the future – to 10 years ago in 2008.
