Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday April 06TH 2025, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

I’m waking up near Fort Myers in Southwest Florida this morning. But in just a little while I’ll be 100 miles north northeast at Highlands Community Church near Sebring greeting at one of our main doors, and then leading Communion on this first Sunday of the month.

18 years ago on the first Sunday of April of 2007 – I joined the Hospitality team of my first church. I had been interested in joining for the past couple of months in some capacity, and I was waiting for an invitation to do so. I accepted the invitation – no fooling. And so on April Fools’ Day – I was made an usher, and I helped my brothers and sisters to their seats inside our theatre. (My first church initially held its Sunday morning services inside the local movie theatre.)

I actually didn’t like being an Usher and asking (telling) people where to sit in the theatre – sometimes against their will. At that point I was still very shy and uneasy about being a center of attention with lots of people watching me. I felt like I was a distraction during the active church service. I think I subtly expressed my displeasure after a couple of weeks.

3 weeks later I was placed at the front doors of the movie theatre as a greeter – opening the doors and welcoming my brothers and sisters of my church family – just as they did for me 3 months earlier when I attended my first church service in over 30 years. I owned that area of service.

Through all of the other areas of church service from ushering to hosting to leading to teaching to preaching – I’ve never given up my first love of service – greeting. I greeted at the front doors of both locations of my first church. When I moved down the road to my much smaller second church – I frequently found myself at the front door greeting – not because anyone asked me to do so, but because I always felt that it was the right thing for me to do to serve God.

I’m still greeting after 18 years, and I’m truly honored to do so. And now I’m also greeting in my own neighborhood, and at the museum where I serve.

Greet all God’s people in Christ Jesus. The brothers and sisters who are with me send greetings. (Philippians 4:21 NIV)

My testimony is featured each week here on #SundayScripture – whether it’s part of a sermon, a testimony, or just me writing about the events of the past week. Hopefully it encourages you and inspires you to seek the Lord – and get closer to Him with each new day.

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday March 30TH 2025, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

After leading Friday Night Bible Study at my church the previous week – I missed it this past Friday night. I was up the road in Avon Park at the Three Dog Night concert. That’s right – the legendary rock band that was formed when I was born in 1967. They are still touring with one original member. I’ll write about the concert this upcoming #TravelThursday.

It was another great week of Bible studying and sermon writing. I’ve begun writing my next sermon after next, and it’s already about a third done. It’s also got a title – “Parenthesis & Praise”. (It covers Paul’s parenthesis in his first letter to Timothy – 1:12-17.)

See what I did there ? I’ll also wrap-up Chapter 1 with Paul’s instructions for his trusted assistant (1:18-20).

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord – who has given me strength to do His work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve Him – even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence – I persecuted His people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief. Oh – how generous and gracious our Lord was ! He filled me with the faith and love that come from Christ Jesus. (1 Timothy 1:12-14 NLT)

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday March 23RD 2025, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

God blessed me with a very good week of Bible studying and sermon writing. Last #SundayScripture I revealed the title of my next sermon – “Ungodly & Sinful” – based on 1 Timothy 1:9. I wrote the back-half of that sermon this past week, and now I’m putting the finishing touches on it. Going forth – I’ll continue to review it and enhance it as needed. It’s sort of a “throwback” sermon for me. It’s my first verse-by-verse (expository) sermon since I preached 2 sermons on Jude near the end of 2023. It’ll be my first extended message series since I preached on 1 Peter over the course of 5 sermons in 2021 and 2022.

“Ungodly & Sinful” is Scripture heavy. It’s based on 1 Timothy 1:1-11 and a few later verses in 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus 1:15-16 and 2:11-14, as well as Romans 6:1-14 and 23, 7:4-6 and 12, 2 Corinthians 4:4, and Galatians 5:19-26.

This past Friday night I filled in for my Pastor and led Bible Study at my church for the first time – a little over 14 months after attending my very first Friday Night Bible Study in January 2024. (I wrote about it in this #SundayScripture.) We’re currently reading and studying Paul’s letter to the Romans – verse-by-verse – from start to finish. We’re up to Romans 8 now, and I continued the momentum with Verses 1 to 15. Paul essentially recaps and reinforces what he wrote previously about sin and sinful desires – particularly in Romans 6. So – I read, and we discussed all of Chapter 6. (Earlier that same day I read and studied Romans 6 and incorporated much of it into my sermon.)

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)

My testimony is featured each week here on #SundayScripture – whether it’s part of a sermon, a testimony, or just me writing about the events of the past week. Hopefully it encourages you and inspires you to seek the Lord – and get closer to Him with each new day.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday March 16TH 2025, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord + Savior Jesus Christ. Let us love our neighbor as ourself.

Today is the 2ND Anniversary of when I closed on my dream home in my dream neighborhood in my dream part of Florida (Sebring in Highlands County). I actually spent my first night in my dream home the night before (on March 15TH 2023), and then the next day I, my Real Estate Agent, and the sellers met at the Title company to transfer the home to me. Yet another dream came true on that day. God’s miracles continue in abundance.

In other news – my next sermon now has a title – “Ungodly & Sinful”. It’s from 1 Timothy 1:9:

For the law was not intended for people who do what is right. It is for people who are lawless and rebellious – who are ungodly and sinful – who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy – who kill their father or mother or commit other murders.

I’m making great progress on my next sermon. It’s about half-done, and I’m also working on the PowerPoint Presentation (.PPT) that goes along with it simultaneously. It’s a different strategy for me. Normally I write the entire sermon and then I wait until I get the call to preach before I work on the .PPT. In this case – the .PPT is actually inspiring me to write more of my sermon. The plan is to complete both the sermon and the .PPT, and then immediately begin working on the next sermon on the next part of 1 Timothy 1.

Tomorrow is Saint Patrick’s Day. Enjoy the day. Make it a good one. Make it a day that you can look back at fondly in the future.

My testimony is featured each week here on #SundayScripture – whether it’s part of a sermon, a testimony, or just me writing about the events of the past week. Hopefully it encourages you and inspires you to seek the Lord – and get closer to Him with each new day.
