Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday March 27TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

I’m getting ready for a fun day with my church family. Following service we’ll be celebrating the 50TH wedding anniversary of our Pastor and his wife in our fellowship hall with pizza, garlic bread, soda, and cake. And – there will be balloons and banners too !

I’m not preaching today, but I am preparing for my next sermon in a few weeks. I’m actually working on 3 sermons simultaneously. My next sermon will probably be “Ways & Memes 3”. It’s the 3RD edition of my recurring message series that’s illustrated entirely by memes found on Facebook.

One of the main reasons why I never deleted my Facebook account when I stopped posting over 4 years ago is that I still check it out for a few minutes on most days to look for memes I can utilize for #SundayScripture on here, and for my “Ways & Memes” messages.

Normally I stand behind the pulpit on our stage and preach from there. “Ways & Memes” allows me to get from behind the pulpit and off the stage and onto the floor where I can walk around our sanctuary with clicker in hand and just speak at what’s on my mind right then and there based on the meme that’s on the big screens (TV monitors).

That’s similar to the meme that I featured last #SundayScripture. Ain’t nobody perfect in our church. I know a lot of Christians (even those who identify as “born again”) avoid church because of all of the imperfect hypocrites found inside church buildings. Incidentally if you’re still searching for a church, and you finally find that elusive perfect church – then don’t go there and ruin it for them.

I am part of a church family that is flawed. Each one of us in flawed in our own unique ways. God put us together intentionally – a small group of flawed imperfect creations in His image – and we gather on Sunday mornings to celebrate Him, to get closer to Him, and to be more like Him – who is perfect in every way.

We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes – no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned. We all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God – with undeserved kindness – declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. (Romans 3:22-24 NLT)

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday March 20TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

I love that. I love my church family. Last Sunday I celebrated my 7TH anniversary with my current church family. I walked through the front door of my current church building 7 years ago on Daylight Saving Time Sunday in March 2015. It was my first time ever visiting that church, and I only knew one person there beforehand. It only took a few minutes into the service to realize that I had finally found my new church. (I was looking for one for the previous 3 years.)

I actually went back to my previous church the following Sunday for one last time to make sure that it was the right decision to leave, and it was. My leadership roles had greatly diminished over the previous few years, and the church family that I left behind was not the same church family that I grew to love for many years before that. God was gently closing the doors of that book of my journey. I walked through the front door of my new church building and family the Sunday after that, and I’ve never left (or even attempted to leave) since then. I belong to my current church family.

So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. (1 Corinthians 12:24b-27 NLT)

As believers and followers of Christ our Savior we are not meant to walk alone, and we are also not meant to stay in the same place where it’s comfortable. If you get too comfortable you may realize that it’s actually not where you belong anymore, but it’s too difficult to move to a new place because you’ve known that comfortable place for so long.

We must listen to our God at all times. He’s guiding us and directing us every step of the way if we would just listen to His whispers, and follow Him. If God is telling you to move because He has something better for you – then move. If God wants you right where you are – then you’ll know so if you’re hearing Him.

I am constantly in awe of my God’s guidance and direction. I can’t not listen to Him. I need His wisdom.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday March 13TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

I am back from vacation, and I’m blogging about it every #TravelThursday. I published Part 1 of my 4-part series on this most recent vacation 3 days ago. Part 2 is in 4 days.

I’ll blog a little bit about it here. Last Sunday morning I attended a large church up in Broward County Florida in Cooper City – Potential Church. I’ve been to this church a handful of times over the past decade or more. They have a nice fancy main campus there with lots of modern electronic equipment and cameras. The bells and whistles and gadgets are in abundance. They actually record a portion of their service for broadcast every Sunday morning on our local NBC affiliate here in South Florida.

The Pastor is Troy Gramling, and he and his wife lead a large team of Pastors, Directors, and Staff at Potential. Pastor Troy relies on a lot of bright backgrounds and huge displays and quirky visual aids and extended presentations during his message, and it can be a bit off-putting if you aren’t expecting it. (It’s also what a lot of young churchgoers are interested in seeing and experiencing.)

But Pastor Troy also delivers very strong Bible-based messages. Last Sunday morning he preached on servanthood, and I think he actually utilized more Scripture from the Old Testament than the New Testament. It was very refreshing to see him in action preaching a solid sermon to his congregation from both the Old and the New.

His message on servanthood led into his push for more of his congregation to get involved in serving one another and others – whether it be right there at Potential – or out in the local community. It takes a lot of people to create an experience or a product or a service, but one person can make a huge difference – and change a life forever.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday February 27TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

My Pastor and his family are on a well-deserved vacation this week, so I’m filling-in for him for this morning’s service from start to finish. I’m opening the service, I’m leading Praise & Worship, I’m preaching the sermon, and I’m closing the service.

I’m planning a “cold open” to start the service with the first of three Praise & Worship songs – “Nobody (But Jesus)” – from Casting Crowns and Matthew West. I’ll then greet everyone, and we’ll jump right in to our second song – “Church (Take Me Back)” – from Cochren & Co. That leads-in to my opening prayer, and then it’s my sermon. (The third song will serve as the intermission of my sermon.)

I’m preaching a sermon I wrote over the past few weeks – “Stones & Stumbles”. It’s based on 1 Peter 1:23 through 2:9. It’s the follow-up to two previous sermons from my continuing verse-by-verse message series from Peter’s first letter. The first two were “Salvation & Hope” (1 Peter 1:3-12), and “Holy & Redeemed” (1 Peter 1:13-23). I presented much of “Holy & Redeemed” here on #SundayScripture from December 19TH through January 23RD. (Use the calendar feature down near the bottom of this page to link to any previous blog post.)

You are coming to Christ – who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but He was chosen by God for great honor. (1 Peter 2:4)

I’m looking forward to sharing my message today about the God I know. He is my Cornerstone.
