Welcome to June. It’s one of my favorite months of the year – mostly because it’s my birthday month. I turn 53 this Friday, and I’ll celebrate with a special edition of my Friday blog series RETRO.

This past week marked 13 years of this blog. It started on Myspace during the final week of May of 2007. After 6 months and 310+ blog posts I moved it here to WordPress. It was also on Facebook from 2013 to 2017. As I enter my 14TH year of blogging my commitment remains the same – to maintain a positive Bible-based and Christ-centered blog with a music theme – and new material posted 4 times per weekend on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays. Occasionally I’ll post a 5TH entry during a week on a Tuesday.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Welcome to the first week of Summer, and with the new season comes an upgrade to my chart. It’s displayed in an actual chart now ! It’s easier to read, and it’s actually easier to update now each weekend. “TW” is this week’s chart position, ‘LW” is last week’s, and “WKS” is total number of weeks on my chart.

Earlier this weekend I quietly uploaded a brand new chart to my blog. It’s a compilation chart (in an actual chart) of every single # 1 hit during this current era – all 47 to date since February 2017. This chart will be updated each week with each new weekly chart. You can track to it via the “CHART-TOPPERS SINCE 2017” menu item near the top of this page.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1990

Every 2ND, 3RD, and 4TH Friday of the month I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday May 20TH 1990:

I have a new # 1 smash this week, as MercyMe pull back from the top spot after 12 weeks. The Afters score with their 2ND consecutive # 1 smash in the timely “I Will Fear No More”. It’s their follow-up to “Well Done” – which was my Christmas # 1 in 2018. Going back even further The Afters scored a # 4 hit on my chart in January 2008 with “Never Going Back To OK”. While that song was tracking Hawk Nelson were spending 10 weeks in a row at # 1 with “Friend Like That”. #RETRO

Currently # 1 on Christian Top 40 radio from coast to coast is Cory Asbury’s “The Father’s House”. It finally reaches my chart after hovering just below my Top 10 for the past several weeks.

This is my final weekly chart prior to summertime. As I’ve done for many years now I’ll be tracking in greater detail every song that’s on my chart during the 16 weeks of summer starting on Memorial Day Weekend and ending on Labor Day Weekend here in the U.S. (Normally it’s 15 weeks, but Memorial Day occurs on its earliest possible date this year while Labor Day occurs on its latest possible date. That gives us an extra week of summer.) On the Tuesday after Labor Day I’ll publish a special chart featuring my Top 10 hits of the entire summer.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 5 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday, and a special post on Tuesday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.
