Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday May 08TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

It’s the second of two Sunday mornings in a row of preaching God’s Word for my church family. Last Sunday went pretty well, and it received positive reactions. I’m excited about doing it again this morning – preaching another unrehearsed and spontaneous sermon from the heart – wholly glorifying God. Today I’ll preach on “People & Places”, and we’ll also observe and celebrate a very special Mother’s Day edition of Communion – as I highlight Mary – mother of Jesus.

It is Mother’s Day here in the U.S.A. and in many nations all around the world. (Some countries celebrate Mother’s Day in March and in other months of the year.)

As the Bible says in the Gospel of Luke – Chapter 1 – Verses 31 to 33:

“… You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give Him the throne of His ancestor David. And He will reign over Israel forever. His Kingdom will never end !”

Mary hosted the body and blood of Jesus, as she carried Him in her womb for 9 months. Mary delivered His body and blood into the world – for the benefit of all creation.

To all of the Moms reading my blog I thank you for all you do for your children, and for bringing them into this world as new creations. I wish you a Happy Mother’s Day !

Thank you for reading my blog for this day, and may:

The LORD bless you, and keep you.
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. AMEN.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday May 01ST 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

It’s the first of two Sunday mornings in a row of preaching God’s Word for my church family. I’m excited about it. It should be very interesting, as I preach two totally unrehearsed and spontaneous sermons from the heart – wholly glorifying God.

Some of you have asked me if I can place videos of our sermons on here. No – I can’t at this time. We don’t record our sermons. We’ve tried in the past with an iPhone and an iPad, but it didn’t work out very well. We tried with Facebook LIVE. That didn’t work either. Our Pastor even preached his sermon to an empty sanctuary and his iPad on a Friday or a Saturday, and then he posted it to our Facebook page on Sunday morning at nearly the same time that he preached it LIVE to us. That was just awkward.

We’re a small church with a small budget, and I kind of like it like that – coming from a big church with a big budget for 8+ years before arriving at my current church of the past 7+ years. There are positives and negatives with both the big church experience – as well as the small church experience. Some of the bells and whistles of the big church experience were impressive, and some were just plain annoying – if not perhaps even a bit offensive. I’m enjoying the positives of the small church experience during this part of my fantastic journey.

I think the best way to share a sermon with you is when I transcribe it into a series of blog posts – much as I did for 6 Sundays in December 2021 and January 2022 with my message on being “Holy & Redeemed”. (Check out my SERMONS page for links.) I may do the same with “Stones & Stumbles” – which served as the sequel to “Holy & Redeemed” and covered 1 Peter 1:23 to 2:9. It’ll probably be another 6-part blog series. I may kick that off in a few weeks.

Meanwhile here’s one of the memes that I’ll preach on later today:

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday April 24TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

I’m looking forward to service and fellowship with my brothers and sisters of my church family this morning. I’ve got a busy next couple of Sundays coming up in May. Filling-in for my Pastor – I’ll be leading my church family from beginning to end on May 01ST and 08TH. I’ll be opening the service, leading Praise & Worship, praying for the church and beyond, preaching the sermon, leading Communion (on May 08TH), and closing the service. I’m honored that I’ve been blessed with this opportunity.

On May 01ST I’ll be presenting the 3RD edition of my “Ways & Memes” message series. It’s about an “every 14 months” sermon for me that’s inspired entirely by Bible-based memes I’ve found on Facebook and saved. This message series gets me from behind the pulpit, off the altar, and up-close and personal with my church family, as I speak whatever is on my mind at the time as each new meme is displayed on the big screens.

I have a lot to say about this meme when it goes up:

On May 08TH I’ll be preaching another spontaneous sermon titled “People & Places”. I have no idea how this one is going to go, as I won’t have any memes to show, and I probably won’t even use any notes. It’ll be an impromptu sermon about people and places I’ve met or experienced recently. I could probably speak for 3 hours or more on this topic, so I’ll see what happens in less than 45 minutes.

Ever since I got that coffee mug for Pastor Appreciation Month a couple of years ago and I placed it on my desk – the time spent by coworkers / visitors at my desk has plummeted by over 75%. So now I have to meet people in places while on vacation in order to come up with new ideas for future sermons.

Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends. It is Sunday April 17TH 2022, and this is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us celebrate this great new day of believing, following, trusting, loving, and being more like our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

Today I observe and celebrate my 16TH Easter Sunday with my brothers and sisters of my church family. Before salvation Easter was just another day of the year. Now it’s the most important day of the year – and the reason why I live today.

As the Bible says in the Gospel According to Mark – Chapter 16 (1-7):

Saturday evening – when the Sabbath ended – Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on Sunday morning – just at sunrise – they went to the tomb. On the way they were asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb ?” But as they arrived – they looked up and saw that the stone – which was very large – had already been rolled aside.

When they entered the tomb – they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked, but the angel said – “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth – who was crucified. He isn’t here !  He is risen from the dead !  Look – this is where they laid His body. Now go and tell His disciples – including Peter – that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see Him there – just as He told you before He died.”

HE IS RISEN !  HE IS RISEN – INDEED !  The Lord has really risen !  He appeared to Peter. (Luke 24:34). He was seen by the Twelve, and the more than 500 of His followers at the time, and by James (the half-brother of Jesus), and by all the apostles, and by Paul. (1 Corinthians 15:5-8)

Today we join our brothers and sisters in Christ – God’s children – all across this great nation of ours – and all around the world – as we observe and celebrate the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ – our Lord and Savior.

We join our brothers and sisters of this global church family on this Resurrection Sunday, but we know that every waking moment of every new day is a renewed celebration of Christ conquering the grave, and rising from the dead, and giving us life.

HE IS RISEN !  HE IS RISEN – INDEED !  And since He is risen – we have risen from where we once were.

See Jesus keeps His promises – then and now. He does what He says He is going to do. He is who He says He is. He is risen. He is risen – indeed. He is alive. He sits on the throne of Heaven. He is the King of Kings. He is the Lord of Lords. He gives us life. He breathes life onto our dry bones. Breath of God – breathe on us !  He makes all things new. He gives us hope. He gives us purpose. He makes us vessels of vibrant living waters.
