Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

It’s Tuesday night again, so you know that I’ve got these items of interest on my mind:

1.  We’ve currently got our first significant rain event here in Homestead since last October. When all is said and done we could receive more rain between now and tomorrow night than we have over the past 103 days combined !  Let it rain !

2.  Yesterday (Monday) was the ‘best day ever’ here on this blog. We experienced more hits yesterday than on any previous day in our short 2+ month history here on WordPress. I thank everyone responsible for making that happen.

3.  The reports of the death of the breakfast sandwich at Starbucks have been greatly exaggerated. Actually they are going away, but they will be phased out gradually over a period of time through the latter portion of this year.

4.  Fun With Numbers:  The sum of my telephone number at work and my telephone number at home may equal the telephone number of a church in southeastern Pennsylvania.

5.  It’s not nice to make fun of or criticize the way someone looks or the way they dress. There is only one true Judge, and He loves everyone no matter how they look or what the’re wearing.

6.  Most people I know don’t like MSG in their Chinese Food. Most people I know have no clue what MSG stands for or what it really is.

7.  I finally filed my 2007 Income Tax Return with the IRS this past Saturday afternoon. It took about an hour to do so electronically. I’m getting a $469 refund. I like refunds !

8.  Two Homestead area Boy Scouts knocked on my front door this past Saturday morning selling their ‘Camp Card’. I bought two more. If they sold Krispy Kreme doughnuts like we did in 1978 then I would have bought several boxes of them.

9.  Someone recently asked me why I am a registered Republican. It’s because I generally agree with Republicans about 75 to 85 percent of the time. That was a no-brainer.

10.  I make my own Folgers instant coffee at work using Zephyrhills water. It’s rather tasty. I impress myself every morning.

The Road Rage Files – Chapter 20

‘The Road Rage Files’ is not just about bad drivers. It’s also about irresponsible and inconsiderate drivers.

This is now the 15TH day in a row in which we have received absolutely no rain whatsoever (0.00) here in the Homestead area. Since November 01ST not even an inch and a quarter of rain has fallen. We are bone dry. We are now a desert !

Now that we know the obvious can you please tell me why drivers are still throwing objects that are on fire out of their moving vehicles ?  You are creating brush fires all around us !  We’ve currently got winds gusting in excess of 25 MPH. What you throw out the window (on fire) is setting the surrounding grass and brush on fire. Homestead ARB was socked-in with thick dense low-lying smoke this afternoon because of a wild brush fire just north of the base.

STOP STARTING FIRES !  Keep the garbage in your vehicle !

Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad

1.  Tom and Anne both beat me to the movie theatre bright and early this morning. But then again I was about 8 minutes late (arriving at 7:38 AM). According to Tom and Anne the theatre was unlocked and ready for us to roll as soon as we arrived. I think Pastor Travis got that ‘locked-out’ problem resolved within the new lease agreement.

2.  Lisa has some cool ideas for the ‘Kid’s Life’ registration desk, so that makes us work even harder over at the ‘Visitor Center’. The think tank was at work again this morning. We decided that we want a red carpet that we can roll out straight from the ‘Visitor Center’ clear out to the front door. Anne stated that she would ‘look in’ to the ambitious idea.

3.  I think that we may have set a new attendance record for the 9:00 service (approaching 90), and if you were at the 10:30 service and tried to find a seat at around 10:40 then you were probably searching hard for one. I think that we shattered the ‘400’ mark in overall attendance at Life Pointe Church this morning. We may have even come close to 450 !

4.  We kicked-off a brand new message series this morning entitled ‘(un)christian’. Our church body collectively apologized for those times in which the name of Jesus was manipulated by unprincipled religious leaders, for those times in which we have been abused by church people, for those times in which we were judged without concern for who we are, for those times in which we were duped or taken advantage of by a Christian, for those times in which we were shown Scriptures selectively without concern for the whole counsel of the Bible, and for those times in which we were not loved by followers of Jesus. We apologized. We forgave.

5.  About 100 of us met over at Homestead Bayfront Park this afternoon for a nice picnic and water baptism. I think we had about 250 pounds of delicious food available for consumption, so anyone that was on a diet probably took about a 3-hour hiatus from their diet so that they could join in on the MASSIVE feast. Don’t bother weighing yourselves tonight. You can resume your diet in the morning.

I’ll be on vacation next weekend over in the Fort Myers area, and I’m planning to attend a church service over there on Sunday morning. I’ll have a special edition of the ‘Tossed Salad’ next Sunday night regarding my experiences over there. I’ll be back at Life Pointe on the 24TH of February.
