  1. “Well Done” – The Afters [# 1 last week / 11TH week on chart]
  2. “Nobody Loves Me Like You” – Chris Tomlin [3 / 9TH]
  3. “Even Then” – Micah Tyler [2 / 20TH]

  9. “Best News Ever” – MercyMe [10 / 2ND]
  10. “Forever On Your Side” – NeedToBreathe [- / 1ST]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week – “Lions” – Skillet

It’s my 52ND and final weekly chart of 2018, as The Afters spend a 3RD week at the top with their latest “Well Done”. The Afters are the only act on my current chart who also charted during the previous “salvation” era of my chart from 2006 to 2010. In fact their long-running debut smash “Never Going Back To OK” was at # 9 on the final weekly chart of 2007. Interestingly Skillet (# 1 a year ago) also charted during that “salvation” era – with 6 hits !

NeedToBreathe’s “Forever On Your Side” becomes the 57TH hit on my weekly chart in 2018. Tomorrow – New Year’s Day – in a special bonus blog post – I’ll #CountUp my Top 18 hits of 2018 from # 1 to # 18. 3 hits on my current weekly chart will be on the Top 18 chart.

For those of you who check out my blog mostly on Mondays to track the hits I thank you so much for supporting Christian artists and their music. God used His music to rescue me and save me back in August of 2006. He used His music on the radio to pull me out of the darkness and bring me closer to Him.

2018 was a fun year of compiling my weekly charts, and I’ll keep it going every Monday night in 2019. It’s compiled all throughout the week, and it’s published after 6 PM U.S. East Coast time on Monday nights.

This is my 167TH and final blog post of 2018. I pray for a safe and secure New Year’s Eve for you, and we’ll hang out again all throughout 2019 here on “Saturday Night Retro” – one of my CountUp Ministries.

Sunday Scripture

I only miss a few Sundays per year with my church family (whenever I’m on vacation), and last Sunday was one of those Sundays. But this Sunday I was back, and it was great to be back home again where I belong with my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Our Lead Pastor Bob continued his “Journey To The Cross” sermon series with a frank talk on death, and picking-up your cross to follow Christ who died for us on the cross. He died a bloody death, and He was buried in the tomb. But the story didn’t end there. He rose again to give us life.

If you refuse to take up your cross and follow Me – you are not worthy of being Mine. If you cling to your life – you will lose it, but if you give up your life for Me – you will find it. (Matthew 10:38-39 NLT)

Love God more than anyone and anything. Follow Him regardless of the world around you. Get closer to Him in peace and quiet.

Saturday is usually a day of rest for me. Yesterday I enjoyed a full day of rest. With the grace of God I accomplished what I set out to do – I finished writing my half-written sermon that I started over a month ago. It’ll be my next sermon – my first of 2019 – that I preach to my church family titled “Present & Future”, and it’s based on James 4:13-17 and a portion of James 5. Once I get the word that I’m preaching on a Sunday morning I’ll begin enhancing and finalizing it. In the meantime it’s on to my next sermon.

Where shall I start Lord ?  Lead me. Show me the way. I will follow You.

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference from either 10, 20, or 30 years ago (rotating each week). Here it is – for the week ending Sunday December 28TH 2008:

  1. “Maps” – Falling Up
  2. “Say What You Will” – Ever Stays Red
  3. “Sure Shot” – Run Kid Run
  4. “Outrage” – Capital Lights
  5. “I Give Up” – Stellar Kart

These are the same Top 5 songs as 3 weeks ago when I last went #Retro in 2008, but the songs are in a slightly different order – aside from “Maps” still at # 1.

As 2018 comes to a close and we jump in to 2019 I’ll be exploring the history of my chart (and life) from 1989, 1999, and 2009 on Friday nights. Those were 3 fun years in my life. I’m looking forward to going #Retro in the new year.

It’s halftime. I’ll be back on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with my remaining three blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Be safe as the sun goes down on 2018.

Final Weekend Of 2018

Greetings Readers !  It’s the start of the final weekend of 2018 here on my blog, and I’m going out with a bang. I’ve got 5 new blog posts for you (starting with this one). Tomorrow night I’ll go #Retro back to the final weekend of 2008. Saturday is my day of rest. On Sunday I’ll present my normal “Sunday Scripture”. On Monday it’s my final Top 10 music chart of the year. On Tuesday (New Year’s Day) I’ll kickoff 2019 with a special bonus blog post featuring my Top 18 hits of 2018.

So keep checking-in to this blog for all-new material including new tweets and photos. My active Twitter and Flickr feeds (last 5 tweets and last 5 photos respectively) can be seen along the right-side panel on the web site edition of this blog at majorhitwaves.wordpress.com.

In addition to my 5-blog-post weekend I also plan to (need to) get back into the sermon-writing business. December was not a very good month for me in this area of my ministry. I preached my 12TH sermon of the year back on Sunday December 02ND. I actually wrote much of it while on vacation in Ohio in November. I also wrote about half of my next sermon that I plan to preach. That’s pretty much where the forward momentum stalled. I need to complete my half-written sermon – tentatively titled “Now & Later”, but I may change it to “Present & Future” based on its recurring theme. Once I get that sermon completed, enhanced, and finalized I need to do a quick turnaround and write my next sermon after that. So let me get me started with all of that instead of merely blogging about it !
