Sunday Scripture

I’m currently writing a new sermon that I’ll be preaching soon to my church family. It’s titled “Josiah & Judah”.

Never before had there been a king like Josiah – who turned to the LORD with all his heart and soul and strength – obeying all the laws of Moses. And there has never been a king like him since. (2 Kings 23:25)

Here’s an excerpt from my sermon-in-progress. It picks-up with 2 Kings 22:8:

During the restoration process the Book of the Law was found in the LORD’s Temple by the high priest Hilkiah. He gave it to Shaphan – the court secretary, and he read it. He then went to Josiah with the scroll, and he read it to him.

When the King heard what was written in the Book of the Law – he tore his clothes in despair. (The King said), “Go to the Temple, and speak to the LORD for me – and for the people – and for all Judah. Inquire about the words written in this scroll that has been found. For the LORD’s great anger is burning against us because our ancestors have not obeyed the words in this scroll. We have not been doing everything it says we must do.” (2 Kings 22:11,13)

See the King – Josiah – feared the LORD. He tore his clothes in sorrow – in pain – knowing that the LORD had great anger against the land and its people for not obeying the Law. Josiah realized that even after 10 years of righting the wrongs of his forefathers – it was not enough. There was still much work to do to reform the land of Judah. There was much non-belief in the LORD in the land. The Law was not being followed by the people of the land. There are great penalties for that.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1999

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 20 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday June 20TH 1999:

  1. “Livin’ La Vida Loca” – Ricky Martin
  2. “Take My Love” – KromOzone Project
  3. “We Like To Party” – Vengaboys
  4. “Better Days (And The Bottom Drops Out)” – Citizen King
  5. “Someday” – Sugar Ray

Sugar Ray had a great year in 1999. They dominated the pop radio airwaves with their beachy tracks. “Every Morning” entered my chart in late-January, and it spent 32 weeks on it – peaking at # 4 in March. It was my # 3 smash for the entire year. But its follow-up – “Someday” – did even better. It entered my chart in early-June, and it spent 40 weeks on it – peaking at # 2 in July. It was my # 2 smash for the entire year.

“Every Morning” and “Someday” were the first two radio singles from their huge (triple-platinum) album “14:59”. Everyone thought they would be a one-hit-wonder after the breakthrough success of “Fly” in 1997, so they used the last second of their “15 minutes of fame” (hence “14:59”) to release an album that would end up making a lot of money for the band. And we’re still listening to it 20 years later.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday afternoon and Monday night with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Flickr Photostream

Happy Thursday June 20TH 2019. Let’s kickoff a fresh new weekend of blogging !

I’ve been uploading a lot of new photos to my Flickr site recently. Actually it’s been a very active past 7 months – since December. I’ve added 269 photos since the start of December. That’s the most active 7-month time-period since 2015. Now that I’m spending much less time on Facebook I’ve got plenty of time to populate my Flickr site with cool new photos.

I created my Flickr account in April 2011, and I’ve uploaded over 2,900 photos since then. Most of them are public. Some are not. They represent my “best of the best” photos. More than half of my photos won’t make it onto my Flickr site. They just aren’t good enough, but they are nevertheless treasured memories. They reside on my other photo sites that I don’t promote.

Can you believe that I have never signed-on to Instagram ?  I’m happy with Flickr.

I’m currently adding photos from my first week of May vacation on Venice Beach Florida. I manually upload my photos one at a time – with captions. I think it’s the modern 21ST Century equivalent of scrapbooking. These are memories of a lifetime, so it’s my way to respect each photo and the precise moment in my life when I captured each memory.

My last 5 added photos always appear on the right-hand side panel of the web site edition of this blog at http://www.revchrismday.com.

If you wish to see more than that you can:

I’ll close with a photo that’s not good enough for my Flickr site. I captured this memory inside Everglades National Park on December 31ST 2016 at 3:01 PM. It’s a photo of my 2015 Honda Civic at the time parked in front of an open missile launch barn featuring an actual restored Nike Hercules Missile on static display. (I worked there as a volunteer tour guide every Saturday for two winter seasons.)

My Top 10 Hits – Week 122

Every Monday night I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday June 16TH 2019:

  1. “Church (Take Me Back)” – Cochren & Co. [# 2 last week / 17TH week]
  2. “Born Again” – Austin French [1 / 16TH]
  3. “Is He Worthy ?” – Chris Tomlin [5 / 11TH]
  4. “Resurrecting” – Elevation Worship [3 / 10TH]
  5. “Prize Worth Fighting For” – Jamie Kimmett [4 / 10TH]
  6. “Greater Things” – Mack Brock [6 / 5TH]
  7. “Raise A Hallelujah” – Bethel Music [7 / 2ND]
  8. “Till I Found You” – Phil Wickham [9 / 2ND]
  9. “Symphony” – Switch [10 / 2ND]
  10. ”Build My Life” – Pat Barrett [8 / 7TH]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Do It Again” – Elevation Worship

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Home” – Chris Tomlin

The oldest song on my chart replaces the 2ND-oldest song on my chart at # 1. After 8 non-consecutive weeks at # 2 Michael Cochren and his friends from South Indiana finally reach the pinnacle with a song that sounds just as fresh today as the day I first heard it on the radio back in February. It’s a song about going to church – something I’ve done nearly every Sunday morning since the first time I went to church as an adult at age 39 on Sunday January 21ST 2007.

This track was nominated for the K-LOVE Fan Award of Breakout Single Of The Year – and deservedly so. I voted for it. It lost the award to “Maybe It’s OK” – another great track – from We Are Messengers.

Here’s the official lyric video of “Church (Take Me Back)”. I can’t stop singing along to it when I hear it – and for hours afterwards:

God has given me the responsibility of serving His church by proclaiming His entire message to you.
(Colossians 1:25)

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him. AMEN.
