Two new entries this week – First at # 10 it’s one of the few artists on this “K-LOVE Era” of my chart that was on the original “Salvation Era” of my chart from 2006 to 2010 – Jeremy Camp. He’s in his early-40s now, and he’s been lighting-up the radio airwaves since he was in his mid-20s. I saw him LIVE in concert this past February, and he put on an awesome set. I’m looking forward to the movie based on his life – “I Still Believe” – next March 20TH.

Coming in at # 9 this week is the latest from Unspoken. It’s their follow-up to “Miracle” which peaked at # 2 in January 2018. It’s a fast-paced pop song that sorta sounds like Micah Tyler’s “Even Then”. Check out the official music video for “Reason” – from the album of the same name:

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Today was another beautiful day with my church family at Living Waters. We had a special guest speaker this week, and he brought God’s Good News to us in an awesome way.

He preached on all 21 verses of Daniel Chapter 1 – which begins in 605 B.C. – the 3RD year of King Jehoiakim’s reign in Judah. Jehoiakim was the oldest son of Josiah who I’ve been studying for the past month or so, and it’s actually become my next two sermons that I hope to preach to my church family. My first sermon covers the entire 31-year reign of King Josiah. My second sermon covers the crumbling of the Kingdom of Judah immediately after Josiah’s untimely death.

During the third year of King Jehoiakim’s reign in Judah – King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. The LORD gave him victory over King Jehoiakim of Judah, and permitted him to take some of the sacred objects from the Temple of God. (Daniel 1:1-2)

Today’s sermon went a long way in helping me to understand the fall of the “Southern Kingdom” to Babylon.

Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became King, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother was Zebidah – the daughter of Pedaiah from Rumah. He did what was evil in the LORD’s sight – just as his ancestors had done. (2 Kings 23:36-37)

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1999

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 20 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 18TH 1999:

“It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay” – Whitney Houston

Lady Saw was once known as the Queen of dancehall music. In addition to her rap vocals on the Vitamin C song above you may remember her 2002 Grammy award-winning collaboration with Gwen Stefani and No Doubt in “Underneath It All”.

Her songs were quite risqué (especially her solo material), but now she serves a different master – her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. She was rescued and saved by God at the end of 2015. She’s a born again Christian, and now she’s known as Minister Marion Hall. She preaches God’s Word and performs Gospel music now. Score another beautiful win for God’s Kingdom and another miserable loss for the devil.

Career Home Life

Moving

I’m not moving (for now). I’m not a fan of moving. I’ve lived in the same home for over 24 years. I moved in here when I was in my late-20s, and now I’m in my early-50s. When I do move away (in about 4 or 5 years) I’ll continue to own this home, but I’ll also own another home about 3 hours north of here up in South Central Florida. This home is all paid off. It was all paid off over 6 years ago.

During my first 28 years of life I moved no less than 14 times. I’ve stayed put ever since.

The worst move ever occurred in November 1980 when – 2 months into my 8TH grade – my family moved from Lanham Maryland to McLean Virginia (opposite sides of the Washington D.C. area). It was a radical change of culture for a 13½-year-old. I was plunged into a completely different environment that I was not prepared for, and I never got used to. I had friends in Maryland. I knew nobody in Virginia. I was a “normal” kid in Maryland. I was a “poor” kid in Virginia that nobody really wanted to associate with. I had very few friends in Virginia – and nobody that I hung out with after school. I did poorly in school, as the school system in Virginia was actually at a much higher academic level than the one that I came from in Maryland. I was essentially a “C” and “D” student through my 11TH grade. That wasn’t good enough for college, and everyone around me was definitely going to college in 1985. I eventually made the honor roll during my Senior year in high school – making all “A”s and “B”s. But it was too late. I ended up joining the military – where my now 34-year career continues.

Had it not been for that move from Maryland to Virginia towards the end of 1980 I’m thinking that my life may have been completely different than it turned out to be. Maybe I would have gone with my friends from elementary and junior and senior high school to the University Of Maryland (where my Dad went 25 years earlier). Maybe I would’ve become a Meteorologist, or gone into Radio or Television Broadcasting (my dream jobs as a teen). Maybe I would’ve met the woman of my dreams, gotten married, and started a family. Maybe I would’ve had the perfect life. Maybe I would’ve never known God. Maybe I would’ve never created this blog 12 years ago to journal this journey.

Be careful when you make decisions. Think about the possible consequences of your decisions before you go through with them. Some decisions that you make can be far bigger than you can ever imagine at the time. One decision today could change your life – or a family member’s life – or a loved one’s life – forever – for better or for worse.
