My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1999

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 20 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday August 15TH 1999:

  1. “Better Days” – Citizen King
  2. “All Star” – Smash Mouth
  3. “Sexual (Li Da Di)” – Amber
  4. “Smile” – Vitamin C Ft. Lady Saw
  5. “Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me For Me)” – Blessid Union Of Souls

“Better Days” and “Sexual (Li Da Di)” are both currently in heavy rotation at my desk at work via my iPod Shuffles which play almost non-stop from early in the morning until late in the afternoon. These iPod Shuffles represent the music of my life – playing my favorite hits from the mid-1960s through the late-2010s.

Blessid Union Of Souls – What a cool name for a cool group back in the 1990s. They’ve been together for almost 30 years, and they scored a string of pop-friendly hits during the latter portion of the 1990s. 7 of their hits made it onto my chart, and that doesn’t even include one of their biggest hits – “I Believe” – which was big during my 3-year 1992 to 1995 hiatus. “Hey Leonardo” was a long-running smash here on my chart – spending 33 weeks and peaking at # 2. It was also my # 4 hit of all of 1999.

And finally – because I actually maintain a database of this historical information as well – I saw “Bowfinger” at the movie theatre exactly 20 years ago this weekend. I saw it opening weekend. It starred Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy. It was a funny one. I gave it 3½ out of 4 stars. It did well at the box office.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday afternoon and Monday night with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

Twitter

This weekend marks my 10TH Anniversary on Twitter. I created my account just before 9 PM EDT on August 17TH 2009 (a Monday), and I posted my first tweet as follows:

Yeah. That’s right. I’m on Twitter now. I surrender to the hottest web site in the universe.

As all of my friends at the time were ranting and raving about how great Facebook was – I ignored them and I went to Twitter instead. Unlike nearly everyone I know who started on Facebook and then discovered Twitter – I was on Twitter for over 3½ years before I finally caved-in to peer pressure, created a Facebook account, and began posting over there. This blog – created on Myspace and continued here on WordPress – was actually resurrected on Facebook before returning here on WordPress in January 2018.

So back to Twitter where I’ve been for 10 continuous years – longer than any other form of social media. Last weekend I posted my 8,000TH tweet, so that’s an average of 800 tweets per year, or more than 2 per day. I tweet less nowadays, and I’m far more careful about what I tweet compared to 10 years ago. Actually I use Twitter mostly to promote this blog. With every new blog post published a tweet is automatically generated to the #Twitterverse.

Want to see what I’m tweeting about ?  You don’t have to look far. If you’re reading this blog post online at revchrismday.com – then simply glance over to the right-hand side of your computer or device screen. You’ll see the last 5 tweets I’ve posted. If you’re already on Twitter then you can follow me @ChrisMDay.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 130

Every Monday night I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday August 11TH 2019:

  1. “Raise A Hallelujah” – Bethel Music [# 1 last week / 10TH week on chart]
  2. “Till I Found You” – Phil Wickham [2 / 10TH]
  3. “Symphony” – Switch [5 / 10TH]
  4. “Resurrecting” – Elevation Worship [3 / 18TH]
  5. “Greater Things” – Mack Brock [4 / 13TH]
  6. “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West [9 / 2ND]
  7. “(Love Is The) Reason” – Unspoken [6 / 4TH]
  8. “Dead Man Walking” – Jeremy Camp [7 / 4TH]
  9. “Fear No More” – Building 429 [8 / 2ND]
  10. “I’m Gonna Let It Go” – Jason Gray [- / 1ST]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Dream Small” – Josh Wilson

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Wonder” – Hillsong UNITED

My weekly tradition since 1985 continues with the 130TH week of the 3RD era of my personal hit music chart.

An interesting phenomenon occurs this week, as the 3 new entries on my chart from 9 weeks ago are now my Top 3 songs. When those 3 songs debuted at 7, 9, and 10 respectively I never imagined that any one of them would compete in my Top 3. I never even heard of Bethel Music or Switch before. Phil Wickham had a chance, but even his song took a few weeks to grow on me. I can’t imagine next week’s Top 3 being the same, but I’ve been wrong before.

Casting Crowns could very well score their 3RD # 1 smash in as many years, as “Nobody (But Jesus)” is a new favorite of mine, and it’s currently blowing up the airwaves on K-LOVE. It’s got a cool “pop-goes-country” sound to it.

Check out their awesome music video:

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy this week my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him. AMEN.

Sunday Scripture

Today was another glorious day of praising, worshiping, and celebrating our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ with my church family.

I prepared the elements of Communion before our service. Normally we observe and celebrate Communion on the 1ST Sunday of the month, but since I preached last Sunday I decided to move Communion to the following Sunday (today).

3 years ago I was honored to be asked by my Lead Pastor to take over monthly Communion duties from a brother who was on his way to return to his Creator, and so I did on Sunday August 07TH 2016. I haven’t missed a month since. Today I led my 38TH Communion at Living Waters Full Gospel Church.

Here’s how I began today’s Communion – word-for-word:

You know one of my favorite times of the day – is the end of the day – after I’ve turned off all of the noise in my home – after the lights go out. I lay in bed – getting ready to call it a night – and I reflect upon this day on this journey that I just lived. God led me through another day of continuous peaks and valleys. There was grace. There was mercy. There were miracles. God’s unfailing love was on display. Thank You God for another glorious day on this journey. I can’t wait to do it again tomorrow, for I know that You Lord will do it again in the new day.

You know we’ve all got great stories of how we first met our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. My great story began in the middle of August of 2006, and so this month – and specifically next week – I’m celebrating the 13TH anniversary of salvation, of redemption, of freedom. I once faced darkness, but now I chase daylight. I once was lost, but now am found.

(I then quoted Scripture from Acts 26:13-18.)

Before Communion our Lead Pastor began a new message series on “The Road To The Promised Land”. His sermon was based on several verses within Exodus 14.

But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still, and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. (Exodus 14:13-14)
