Sunday Scripture

Greetings my friends ! On this 3RD Sunday of January of 2021 I observe 14 years as part of a church family. I walked-in to my first church almost exactly 5 months after salvation began. I realized that I could not go much further on this journey without being part of a church family. It was only a matter of a few weeks when I determined that I would be with that church family for the rest of my life.

That didn’t work out. I left after 8 years and 2 months, and I really left about a year to a year-and-a-half too late. I don’t need to get in to the details as to why I left. It’s not because of a single person or a single reason. It’s also not important. Let me just add this: When you’re stalling on this journey, and you’re no longer moving forward towards God as fast as you were previously – then it’s time to move on to a place where you can resume forward momentum. Sometimes that place is in a different role where you already are. Sometimes that place is a different place.

I’ve been with my current church family for almost 6 years now. Thanks to my Lead Pastor and my Praise & Worship Pastor I’ve been blessed with endless opportunities to expand my ministry on Sunday mornings and beyond, and I’ve claimed those opportunities to glorify God and expand His Kingdom here on earth.

As it looks right now I’ll be with my current church family for about 3 more years – until I retire from my full-time job and move about 3 hours away. I’ll be part of a new church family in my future retirement town.

As I look back at these past 14 years one thing has been missing since the very beginning. It’s not for a lack of trying. I’ve been trying since the very beginning – perhaps trying just a bit too hard at the start, and then easing off in the later years. I’m not giving up.

I’m looking for a brother in Christ who I can learn from – and who can learn from me. A brother who I can brainstorm with and bounce ideas off of over meals. A brother who I can do ministries with to change the world. A brother who I can pray with. A brother who I can write sermons with. A brother who’s been where I’ve been – unsaved and of the world – for more years than rescued, saved, and of God’s Kingdom. A brother who I can depend on at any moment of any day to be there for me, and I would want to be that same brother for him as well. A brother who I can trust more than any other. I haven’t found that close brother yet. A few have come close. I’ll keep praying about it. Pray for me too.

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls – the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise – two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone ?  A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12)

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1991

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. That would be for the week ending Sunday January 13TH 1991, but on that week I was serving my country in Saudi Arabia in support of Operations Desert Shield & Storm. It was the start of my 2ND week in the desert.

Life was very different in “Tent City” in the middle of the desert. We had limited access to hit music on the radio. We only had a few stations to listen to via AFRTS (American Forces Radio & Television Service). “Eagle Radio 103 / 105 / 107” was picked-up out of Riyadh – about 65 miles away.

At our BX (Base Exchange) – think small military department store – they sold cassettes. Most of them could be considered as “bootleg” off the local economy, but I bought a bunch of them for a couple of dollars each despite diminished quality. I also bought myself a Walkman (or equivalent) so that I could listen to them in my tent and not disturb anyone.

Don Henley’s “The End Of The Innocence” was one of those cassettes – the album not the title-track alone. Songs like the title-track, “The Heart Of The Matter”, “How Bad Do You Want It ?”, “The Last Worthless Evening”, and “New York Minute” represent the soundtrack of my war experience. I wore-out that cassette over there.

One of my tentmates loved “Hard To Handle” from The Black Crowes. I mean he really loved it, and he loved to play it often – many times per day – loud and proud. I ended-up liking the song as well (since I heard it so many times).

Next Friday on RETRO I’ll go back 35 years ago to January 1986.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

Welcome To My Blog

I haven’t done this in awhile, so let me tell you about my blog here. I’ve been doing this for almost 14 years now – first on Myspace – then on WordPress – then on Facebook – and now on WordPress again. Over these past 14 years I’ve posted over 2,400 blogs – 310+ on Myspace, 220 on Facebook, and 1,880+ here on WordPress.

I’m a consistent blogger. I post new blogs at 3 AM U.S. East Coast time every Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. A few times per year I’ll post a special bonus blog on a Tuesday. Last year (2020) I posted exactly 200 blogs. That was up from 191 in 2019, 167 in 2018, 93 in 2017, 79 in 2016, and 48 in 2015. (I’m obviously trending upward.)

My blog posts are music-based on Fridays and Mondays. They are Christ-centered on Sundays and Mondays. My Thursday blogs essentially kickoff each new weekend, and they can be about anything and everything (such as this one). So this is a music blog. It’s a Christian blog. It’s also a travel blog. One thing it’s not – it’s not a political blog. I will never discuss politics on here (or anywhere online). I generally don’t discuss politics in public.

We all have a short attention span online. I certainly do. There’s a lot to check-out on the interwebs and on the social medias. My blogs are quick and easy reads. You should be able to read any one of my blog posts in less than 3 minutes. Even my Sunday blogs are that way when I put on my preacher hat and evangelize God’s Good News. Sometimes I’ll go long, but it’s the exception rather than the rule.

You know I love to write. I write for this blog 4 times per week. I write sermons when I’m not writing this blog. I probably enjoy writing blog posts more now than I ever have over the course of the past 14 years. So I’ll keep on doing it as long as I keep on enjoying it. I’ll keep it at 4 days per week. Back in the early years I was blogging every day – often multiple times per day. I got burnt out on it after a few years, and I ended-up abandoning WordPress for about 7 years. I tried blogging for about 3 years over at Facebook, but my friends over there didn’t understand it, didn’t appreciate it, and pretty much ignored it.

I hope you like what you read on here. If so then keep on coming back, and keep on liking and following. I’ll keep on writing for you – and for me – and for my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

# 1 This Week In:
2020 – “Holy Water” – We The Kingdom
2019 – “Nobody Loves Me Like You” – Chris Tomlin
2018 – “Lions” – Skillet

Cade Thompson remains at # 1 for the 6TH week in a row with his uplifting and up-tempo “Every Step Of The Way”.

I love the opening lyrics of the song:

♫ If I could talk to myself eight years ago
Seeing what I’ve seen – knowing what I know
I would tell that quiet kid
There’ll be days ahead
When it doesn’t make sense

I would tell him he can trust Your hand
‘Cause now I gotta picture of the greater plan
I can see with perfect clarity
It wasn’t tragedy
It was what I needed

I couldn’t see it then
But now I understand ♫

I can relate to that, but for me it was 14½ years ago. I was once a quiet kid. I was a quiet kid in my teens, 20s, and 30s, but then I was rescued and saved at 39. It came out of nowhere. I didn’t plan it. I didn’t schedule it. I didn’t see it coming. I didn’t know what hit me when it hit me. I didn’t understand it at all. It took me several months at the start of my journey to figure it out, and I’m still figuring it out as I move closer to God’s light.

Oh – I’m no longer a quiet kid. I have a testimony to evangelize !

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
