My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1997

Hello again retro music fans. Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, 25, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 25 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday November 23RD 1997:

  1. “Tubthumping” – Chumbawamba
  2. “(I Just Wanna) Fly” – Sugar Ray Ft. Super Cat
  3. “Show Me Love” – Robyn
  4. “As Long As You Love Me” – Backstreet Boys
  5. “Walkin’ On The Sun” – Smash Mouth

You know I was never a big Backstreet Boys fan. By the time they hit the pop charts stateside I was already into my early-30s. Besides – I always thought that ‘N Sync had the better more catchier pop songs on the radio. But if I had to pick a favorite Backstreet Boys track – then it would be their 2ND of 15 (!) hits on my chart – “As Long As You Love Me”. It spent 31 weeks on my chart, and it hit # 1 in its 24TH week. 25 years later – I can still sing along to it. I also have some Karaoke history with this song.

♫ I don’t care who you are
Where you’re from
What you did
As long as you love me
Who you are
Where you’re from
Don’t care what you did
As long as you love me ♫

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 35 years ago to the end of November 1987. It’s when a former Go-Go told us all about Heaven on Earth.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !
