Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  I do my best thinking and dreaming while in the shower, and while driving to work in the dark in the morning. I wish I remembered more of my thoughts, hopes, and dreams from the morning later on in the day when it’s more opportunistic for me to seize more moments.

2.  When me, my Mom, and my Dad first moved in to our new house in Lanham Maryland in February of 1975 the very first beverage that I drank in that new house was a can of Dr. Pepper. I don’t think that I’ve had a Dr. Pepper since then.

3.  My favourite person in the entire world is my brother. I’ve known him since November of 1980 even though he was born 5½ years earlier. I say that because before November of 1980 I wasn’t allowed within a 50-foot radius of him.

4.  I promised to make Ela the subject of the 4TH ‘Grab Bag O’ Thought’. (I just got off of the telephone with her.) A Tuesday afternoon is simply not complete until she has called me to inform me of the obvious – that I’ll be serving The Lord at Life Pointe Church on Sunday morning. Ela is one of God’s great gifts in my new Life.

5.  A nice way to wish me a very Merry Christmas during this festive holiday season is to feed me food.

6.  I’m about a day away from reestablishing contact with a former co-worker, friend, and practical mentor of mine from 20 years ago when I first started working at the air base in Homestead. It seems that he’s a good friend with a current co-worker of mine. We discovered that we have a mutual friend just this afternoon. It’s a small world after all !

7.  My electronic thermostat is set at 74°F 7 nights a week from 7 PM until 6 AM the next morning. I like it like that.

8.  From 1975 to 1980 I was a Cub Scout, a WEBELOS Scout, and a Boy Scout. Fellow WordPress Blogger Stephen Hollifield is bringing back memories of those memorable scouting years with all of his recent blog entries of late regarding hiking up in the mountains with a 20-pound backpack. I think I can. I think I can !

9.  It’s ironic, but one of my favourite Christmas songs on the radio is actually a really sad one – “I Hate Christmas Parties” by Matthew Thiessen & The Earthquakes (a side-band of Relient K). You can see the music video here. Everytime I hear it it invokes memories of Christmas past for me. It gives me the chills. It brings tears to my eyes. I can relate.

10.  A & W Root Beer‘s got that frosty mug taste !

Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

1.  I had lunch with Paul today at Ruby Tuesday. It’s been a long time since I ate there. It’s just my two cents worth here, but it seems to me that Ruby Tuesday is experiencing some hard times. It used to be a party place, but now it seems more like a cafeteria. The menus are no longer glossy, as they are now printed on recycled paper and they have a cheap feel to them. Their food selection has also diminished greatly. I think that Applebee’s is clearly winning the battle with them.

2.  The Wedding‘s “Staring At The Light” has some of the most awesome lyrics in a rockin’ hit song of today. They sum up my fantastic journey thus far, and if our current Life Group study series “Chasing Daylight” had a theme song then this would have to be it.

3.  I may be a Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel expert, but I’m literally a beginner when it comes to Microsoft PowerPoint. Some of my co-workers know how to effectively use it, but I don’t. The teacher will have to learn from his students.

4.  I can’t wash my clothes without my Tide With Bleach powdered laundry detergent. I can’t dry my clothes without my Snuggle fabric softener. By the way click on that link to Snuggle and crank up your speakers LOUD. Be prepared to ROCK OUT !

5.  As I walk around in this world in my daily routines I see too many sad and miserable people. You can just see it in their faces. You can hear it in their voices. There’s something missing from their lives. I know what it is. It’s a personal relationship with God. I used to be just like them, and then I woke up. The Lord is my Saviour.

6.  If I had 3 to 4 hours to spare on a Monday morning then I would sit at the hot new Starbucks in Florida City and eavesdrop on Travis, Paul, and Jesse.

7.  I need to post more blog entries on Cuban restaurants. My short Saturday morning post on the Casavana Cuban Cuisine is the gift that just keeps on giving. It keeps sending heavy blog traffic headed my way. It’s by far the most popular single-entry post of the short history of this blog here on WordPress. Once I get the chance to actually eat there then I’ll have to post a lengthy review of the place. That could actually bog down the WordPress servers !

8.  The Canadian Dollar is collapsing before our very eyes. Not quite a month ago it was worth over $1.10 U.S. (an all-time record). Now it’s down below parity at around $0.987 U.S. It’s the Buck over the Loonie, Eh !

9.  TOMORROW is my ‘half-birthday’. 6 months ago tomorrow I turned 40, and 6 months from tomorrow I turn 41. Only I think of these things !

10.  After I typed # 9 above I spent 16 minutes and 41 seconds talking with Ela on the telephone. A Tuesday afternoon is just not complete until we’ve shared our current thoughts together. Spending that 16:41 with her was far more important than what was originally written here as the #10 ‘Grab Bag O’ Thought’. Ela constantly inspires me and those around her. I can’t imagine this fantastic journey without her.
