Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad

Here are my thoughts and takeaways in 15 words or less:

– Last Sunday morning I was not physically at Life Pointe Church in Homestead.
– I was being the church at sea – about 600 miles due west of here.
– It was great to be back with everyone this morning.
– We had a pretty good turnout this morning despite it being a holiday weekend.
– Stanchions are my toys.
– Someone remarked that my presence was known because of them.
– They were nice and neat in place, so she knew that I was in the house.
– I presided over Communion this morning – 34 years to the date after my first.
Pastor Travis talked to us about ‘The Challenge Of Generosity’.
– ‘He who dies with the most toys – just dies.’
– The highest level of living is generous living.
– Jesus says, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
– I choose to be generous with my time.
– The Good News says, ‘Nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.’
– I choose to be generous with my talent.
– God made us what we are.
– He made us to do good on this Earth.
– I choose to be generous with my testimony.
– I choose to share my fantastic journey with the entire world.
– I choose to tell the story of how I was rescued and saved from the darkness.
– I choose to love and adore God for giving me a second chance at Life.
– I choose to never allow the euphoria of His light to ever dim.

Saturday Night Retro

This is perhaps one of my favourite weekly series here on this blog to prepare for, compile, and then ultimately publish for your reading and viewing pleasure. It allows me to reminisce about my storied past. It’s a past that spans from a mere millisecond ago to sometime in 1966 when God created me.

Allow me to do a bit of reminiscing here.

A week ago tonight I was exploring and enjoying the Carnival Fantasy as she sailed southbound down the Mississippi River towards the Gulf Of Mexico.

5 years ago on this holiday weekend I spent 2 days and 2 nights up at my former playground of the Walt Disney World area. I used to go up there for wild and crazy fun several times per year for about a dozen years. Other than once on church business (last April) I haven’t been up there in nearly 27 months.

10 years ago this week in 1999 I was rockin’ and jammin’ to Barenaked Ladies, Fatboy Slim, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20, and Sugar Ray. Y-100 was the radio station to listen to back in the day. I awoke daily with ‘Footy & The Chix At Six’.

18 years ago this week in 1991 I was living in a MASSIVE tent city in Saudi Arabia serving during Operation Desert Storm. At that time I didn’t know when I would be able to return back home stateside. War is tough, but ironically I had a lot of fun in the sand over there. For many reasons (including the successful war campaign) 1991 was the greatest year of my active duty military career.

34 years ago on tomorrow’s date in 1975 I had my first Communion ceremony at Catholic school as a second grader. Communion means so much more to me today than it did 34 years ago – or even 4 years ago. Tomorrow morning during the first church service I’ll be at my usual position serving Communion to my brothers and sisters of Life Pointe Church at one of four stations set up inside the theatre.

It’s fun to reminisce about the past, but it’s all about facing the future and moving forward aggresively while chasing daylight.

Here’s a cool tune from a cool band out of Australia that’s still alive and touring today all over the world. From 1978 it’s “Reminiscing” from Little River Band. It’s one of my favourite songs of its genre of all-time. Enjoy !

Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad

It’s my takeaways from this morning – ‘Mini Thoughts’ style in 15 words or less:

– Anne J.’s car always smells of fresh bagels early on a Sunday morning.
– Her car is the official Life Pointe Church-Mobile.
– The Starbucks Coffee was extra scrumptious. Thank You Lesia !
– Don’t mess with David C. or (especially) Bibi while they are folding tee-shirts.
– Mark moved the Youth table to a more prominent location.
– Mark does not wish for his table to be neat and tidy.

new-testament-challenge

– Travis kicked-off our 9-week / 63-day ‘New Testament Challenge’.
– Our goal is to read all 27 books of the New Testament.
– That’s about 130 verses per day.
– We can do it if we just devote about 20 minutes per day to it.
– This is Day 1 of the Challenge.
– Tonight I’ll be reading Matthew 1-2 and Acts 1-3.
– We should never compare ourselves to others.
– We should always compare ourselves to Jesus Christ.
– We will never be as awesome as Him.
– The Bible Says – ‘Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.’
– We should always call upon God to grow us.
– We should ask Him to take us where we need to be on His journey for us.

I will not be at Life Pointe Church next Sunday morning; however, the New Testament Challenge will go forth with me on my vacation destinations. I’ll catch up with everyone again in 2 weeks on Sunday February 15TH 2009.

– It was another loud and rambunctious Sunday morning at the movie theatre.
– That’s how we roll yo !
– It’s what Satan doesn’t want us to do.
– He can go back where he came from.
– The Grace Of God allows us to follow, worship, and idolize Jesus Christ.
– Even a dude that partied to techno music in 2002 can give it all up to Him.
– ‘Out of 100 men, one will read the Bible, the other 99 will read the Christian.’
– We must share the Good News with those who don’t believe in Him.
– We must diminish ourselves and magnify Jesus.
– It must always be all about Him – and no other.
– We must love the world less – and love Him more than any one and any thing.
– We must never let worldly things own us.
– We must not be full of pride.
– We must not boast about any one or any thing except for Jesus.
– We must not build Kingdoms for ourselves.
– The only Kingdom that’s relevant is God’s Kingdom.
– That’s the Kingdom that we must always grow.
– We must always yield to God.
– We must love those who don’t yet know Jesus.
– We are no better than the non-believers.
– None of us are worthy of Him.
– Through the Grace Of God everyone may follow Him.
– We are all His children.

Luke 15:4-7 (NLT, 2ND Ed.)
4  “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do ?  Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it ?
5  And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders.
6  When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’
7  In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away !
