Saturday Night Retro

Starting next Saturday night and continuing through the remainder of December it’ll be a very ‘Retro’ Christmas with three consecutive Christmas hits in a row from Shakin’ Stevens, Band Aid, and José Feliciano. Be sure to not miss the festivity of that as we celebrate the reason for the season.

This week on the ‘Retro’ I’m flashing back a decade ago to 1999 for some cool European trance music. It’s from German DJ / Producer André Tanneberger – better known to his fans worldwide (including myself) as simply ‘ATB‘. In this 1999 European pop and dance smash featuring female vocalist Yolanda Rivera he simply wants us to keep on going – “Don’t Stop”. This song actually enjoyed later success on South Florida radio via the former PARTY-93.1 during August, September, and October 2002. That’s when I discovered it, and danced to it at the clubs in and around Orlando Florida. “DON’T … STOP“:

The Major’s Friday Night Disco Party

Brothers Ralph, ‘Pooch’, ‘Chubby’, ‘Butch’, and ‘Tiny’ are Tavares, and the’re a long-running R & B and Disco act from New Bedford Mass. They achieved their greatest mainstream chart success during the mid-1970s at the peak of the Disco era, but they’ve been performing together as a group for 50 years !

This was their biggest selling hit to date – and their only gold-certified single. It’s their # 1 Disco smash “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel”:

Monday Night Funnies

TONIGHT I celebrate my 22ND anniversary of living here in America’s Riviera – the Greater South Miami-Dade Florida region. I arrived at (then) Homestead Air Force Base very late at night – in fact it was so late at night that it was actually during the wee early morning hours of the First of December of 1987. Aside from nearly 19 months immediately following the horror and destruction of Hurricane Andrew I’ve been here ever since. I’ll be here for awhile.

In honour of my 22ND anniversary tonight I present to you one of my favourite classic television commercials (from the mid-1960s) that totally brags on this subtropical paradise that I call home known affectionately as America’s Riviera. It makes me laugh every time I see it !

Get ready my friends – it’s time to do the ‘MIAMI GO GO’ !

Saturday Night Retro

It’s a special Sunday night edition of the ‘Saturday Night Retro’ !

Last night I checked in to my pit stop (on my return trip from the Dallas Texas area) up in the historic Florida panhandle town of Marianna. Within a couple of hours I was sound asleep on my delightfully warm and comfy Hampton Inn ‘Cloud Nine’ bedding (blatant promotion).

After a restful night of sleep I proceeded on the final stretch of the longest road trip of my lifetime – completing 2,764.7 miles from start to finish.

I listened to a lot of great Christian radio during this road trip. My car radio was pretty much locked-in to the non-commercial district of the FM dial (88.1-91.9). I heard some great music on WAY-FM, AIR-1, K-LOVE, and 89.7-POWER-FM north of Dallas Texas (among other great radio stations along the way). I even heard some great sermons and interesting call-in talk shows on various radio stations. I Love My Radio – My Christian Radio !
