Saturday Night Retro

The long Memorial Day holiday weekend is here all across our 50 states, and it’s the unofficial start of the 101 days of Summer from now through the Labor Day holiday weekend at the start of September. It’s when schools let out, vacations begin, and schedules change for Americans everywhere. It’s where we go out and enjoy the world around us while the weather is warm and the days are long visiting new and different places nearby and far away.

I’ve enjoyed many memorable Summers over the past 43 years of my lifetime. Some were memorable for bad events (such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992), and some for good (such as Panama City Beach in 1990). Many I can’t remember at all, so they were clearly forgettable. Looking back I regret not making some type of a memorable impact during those past unremarkable Summers. Of course some of those Summers were forgettable because I’ve chosen to forget about them over time because they were too traumatic for me.

Two Summers in a row were quite memorable for me in a favourable way because I was living them in a foreign land. I was living on an American Air Force Base near Fairford Gloucestershire England in 1986 and 1987. It was an enjoyable, exciting, and ecstatic experience abroad with friends, co-workers, and natives of the land. I was very honoured to be able to live such a rewarding life back then as an 18, 19, and 20-year-old USAF Airman serving my country in another country. I was thankful to be able to return back home again with all of those awesome memories.

This Memorial Day Monday here on my blog I’ll be posting a very special entry to honour those who served before, alongside, and after me – but never made it back home again. They died fighting for freedom while serving their country. Just like this soldier that everyone knew as “Camoulflage”:

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– It’s that time of the week again.
– It’s tricky to rock a rhyme to rock a rhyme that’s right on time it’s tricky.
– That’s old school Run-D.M.C. from 1987.
– D.M.C. backwards is C.M.D. – my initials.
– I also deal with M.C.D. – maintenance cost data.
– I also deal with M.D.C. – maintenance data collection.
– I used to work for the D.C.M. – deputy commander for maintenance.
– Those initials work for me in so many ways.
– I am C.M.D., for I am in command.
– This is the 67TH edition of my ‘Thursday Night Mini Thoughts’.
– 67 is a cool number, for I was born in 1967.
– Next Saturday June 05TH is my 43RD birthday.
– Next Sunday June 06TH marks 25 years since my high school graduation.
– Today’s high school graduates were newborns of Hurricane Andrew.
– It’s hard to conceive that Andrew was a generation ago.
– Introducing Alex, Bonnie, and Colin – your first three storm names.
– 2010’s storm names were last used in 2004 with a few exceptions.
– Charley, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne were retired after the 2004 season.
– All four of those notorious storms struck Florida that season.
– Let’s hope that this season’s storms stay out at sea.
– As I do every season I’ll be monitoring them closely.
– I’m looking forward to this long Memorial Day holiday weekend.
– I’m not traveling anywhere.
– I’m staying off of the streets as much as I can.
– It’ll be a peaceful, quiet, and productive weekend here in my home.
– Get ready for 4 new blog posts in as many days starting on Saturday.
– That includes a very special Memorial Day Monday blog post.
– In whatever you do during this upcoming holiday weekend play it safe.
– Take great care of one another out there.
– You won’t regret it pal.

Thursday Night Mini Thoughts

– It’s 1:40 on this Thursday afternoon, and yet I’m already at home.
– That’s because I took a half a day off from work this afternoon.
– I left work and I immediately proceeded to Red Lobster.
– I’ve now eaten at a Red Lobster twice in less than 5 days.
– That’s twice as much as I had eaten there over the past decade !
– Memo To Self – Add Red Lobster to my weekly Lunch rotation.
– Today I enjoyed the ‘Chef’s Signature Lobster & Shrimp Pasta’.
– I got the Lunch portion of the most delicious dish.
– I should have gotten the full portion of it because it was ‘whole nutha level’.
– I also enjoyed a couple of their oh-so-tasty ‘Cheddar Bay Biscuits’.
– I could eat a dozen of those in a single sitting.
– After Lunch I went to Kohl’s and Bed Bath & Beyond, but I bought nothing.
– I went to Publix after that to do some grocery shopping.
– And here I am at my computer on my blog writing all about it.
– This past weekend was a weekend of firsts.
– I visited the Lion Country Safari for the first time in over 20 years.
– I visited Lake Okeechobee for the first time ever.
– I visited Ft. Pierce, Stuart, Jupiter, and West Palm Beach for the first time ever.
– I ate at Red Lobster for the first time in over a decade.
– I ate at Hooters for the first time in about 16 years.
– Their chicken wings were big and meaty and juicy.
– I saw comedian Jim Gaffigan LIVE in concert this past Sunday night.
– He performed his material for about 80 minutes, and it was crack-up city.
– Very few comedians make me giggle and chuckle as hard as he does.
– Much of his routine is about food – one of the funniest categories there is.
– I was hyperventilating in my seat laughing so hard at the dude.
– If you want to make me laugh then tell me some Jim Gaffigan jokes.
– I really enjoyed my 420-mile weekend road trip.
– I’ll be sure to return to the Treasure Coast area to visit other locales.
– My next three monthly vacations are already planned out.
– Two weeks from this afternoon I fly to Dallas Texas to visit my family.
– My niece – Taylor Lesley Day – is 9 days old today.
– I get to meet her for the first time when she’s 23 days old.
– In June I travel to the Springfield Massachusetts area for 5 days.
– It’s work-related, but I’ll still consider it to be a vacation.
– I’ve never been there before.
– In fact I’ve never set foot before in that entire New England region.
– For the 4TH Of July weekend I’ll continue an annual tradition.
– That tradition is to spend it with my family in sizzling hot Dallas Texas.
– I’ll have my next Carnival cruise vacation during Labor Day Week in Sept.
– That leaves August with no vacation planned thus far.
– Perhaps I’ll do another weekend road trip then.
– There’s still more animals to see and zoos to visit !
– This weekend I’ll be blogging my regular series.
– On Saturday it’s the ‘Retro’, and I’ll be remembering the Summer of 2005.
– ‘My Fantastic Journey: It’s In The Lyrics’ returns this Sunday May 02ND.
– Can you believe that the month of May is less than 33 hours away ?
– 2010 is flying by, so we must be having fun.
– Have fun my friends, and we’ll meet again this weekend.

My Fantastic Journey: It’s In The Lyrics

You know even when you follow, believe, trust, and love Jesus Christ above every one and every thing – you’re still going to have days that just don’t go your way. You can call them ‘bad days’ if you wish, but never forget that you’re not alone. God is with you always and forever. He sees it all  – the good, the bad, and the downright ugly.

Just because you’re living a new Life – separate and distinct from your previous life – it does not mean that all of the bad things went away the moment that you stepped away from your old ways of the world. You’re still human, and you still have the problems that normal humans have. It’s how you react to those problems that sets you into motion and defines how you Live your new Life.

There is always one nucleus to every solution to every problem. That nucleus is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. If you believe. If you trust.

In honour of Saint Patrick’s Day I present to you Christian Rocker Kevin Max. Here he is with an “Irish Hymn” on this very special day where everyone can be Irish simply by wearing the green !
