The Major’s Top 10 Hits – Week 59

  1. “No One Like Our God” – Lincoln Brewster [# 1 last week / 12TH week on chart]
  2. “Freedom Hymn” – Austin French [3 / 2ND]
  3. “Gracefully Broken” – Matt Redman Ft. Tasha Cobbs Leonard [2 / 16TH]
  4. “I Just Need U.” – TobyMac [7 / 2ND]
  5. “Fear Is A Liar” – Zach Williams [4 / 8TH]
  6. “Come To The Table” – Sidewalk Prophets [6 / 9TH]
  7. “Resurrection Power” – Chris Tomlin [5 / 8TH]
  8. “Reckless Love” – Cory Asbury [8 / 2ND]
  9. “What A Friend” – Matt Maher [9 / 2ND]
  10. “So Will I (100 Billion X)” – Hillsong UNITED [10 / 4TH]

It’s a fairly benign chart this week with only one track making any type of substantial move. TobyMac’s latest – “I Just Need U.” – a song I really didn’t care for at first – has now really grown on me over the past couple of weeks. Last year his “Love Broke Thru” was an instant out-of-the-box smash that literally resurrected this music chart after a 7-year hiatus. When this chart was reborn (Presidents’ Day Weekend 2017) “Love Broke Thru” was the only song on it. The following week this chart expanded to a Top 3 – the next week – a Top 5 – and the next week – a Top 10 – which is what it’s been since then.

Next week it’ll probably be Austin French vs. TobyMac for the top spot.

In other Good News I’m about to receive my ordination credentials. I’ve been a born again Christian for 11½ years, and I’ve been preaching for 8½ years. I’m getting ready to preach to my current church family my 13TH full sermon over the past 18 months. My current plans are to retire from the Federal Government in 5 years (after 38 years of service) and evolve into full-time ministry. Receiving my ordination credentials now are an appropriate “next step” for me towards my goals.

If God has given you leadership ability – then take the responsibility seriously. (Romans 12:8c NLT)

Thank You – my brothers and sisters – for reading, liking, and following my blog – an online extension of my God-given ministry to win souls for Christ. May God bless you – always and forever – as we walk together on this fantastic journey !

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1998

  1. I Know Where It’s At – All Saints
  2. I Want You Back – ‘N Sync
  3. As Long As You Love Me – The Backstreet Boys
  4. One More Night – Amber
  5. (I Wanna Be Your) Number One – Alexia

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 20 years ago this weekend – Sunday March 29TH 1998.

The # 1 pop smash nationwide on this date was Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from “Titanic”. I actually saw “Titanic” on March 12TH 1998 in Fort Worth Texas with coworkers during a military trip. We saw it rather late – nearly 3 months after its box office release. It was still # 1 when we saw it.

(For fun I maintain a database of every movie I see at the box office. I’ve been doing this since 1989.)

I’ve been producing my own personal weekly hit music chart off and on for the past 30+ years. Next Friday I’ll go back another 10 years to the 2ND weekend of April of 1988.

This Sunday I’ll be back with Scripture. I’m leading my church family in Communion on Sunday, and I’ll be using Matthew 28:1-10 as my guide. Today and tomorrow I’ll continue building my May 2018 sermon on “Pride & Prejudice” from the end of Chapter 1 and the start of Chapter 2 of the Book Of James.

That’s all for now. Keep moving forward towards God’s bright light. Remember that it’s Friday now, but Sunday is coming !

  3. “Freedom Hymn” – Austin French [- / 1ST]
  4. “Fear Is A Liar” – Zach Williams [4 / 7TH]
  5. “Resurrection Power” – Chris Tomlin [5 / 7TH]
  6. “Come To The Table” – Sidewalk Prophets [6 / 8TH]
  7. “I Just Need U.” – TobyMac [- / 1ST]

  9. “What A Friend” – Matt Maher [- / 1ST]
  10. “So Will I (100 Billion X)” – Hillsong UNITED [8 / 3RD]

Lincoln Brewster holds at # 1 for a 3RD week in a row on my personal weekly Christian music chart, and “Gracefully Broken” holds steady at # 2 for the 3RD week in a row following its 6-week reign at # 1.

Entering the chart – straight-in at # 3 this week – is newcomer Austin French with his “Freedom Hymn”. Austin was actually the runner-up of the ABC-TV singing competition show “Rising Star” during its lone season in the Summer of 2014. “Freedom Hymn” celebrates chains breaking, a heart changing, and a soul forgiven.

I frequently preach about freedom. Back before I was saved – I was a slave to the world, and I didn’t even know it. Now I’m free. I never experienced true freedom – until God placed me on this fantastic journey. I am freer today than I was yesterday, and I’ll be freer tomorrow than I am today. God is freedom.

For you have been called to live in freedom – my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead – use your freedom to serve one another in love. (Galatians 5:13 NLT)

Thank You – my brothers and sisters – for liking and following my blog. May God bless you – always and forever – as you walk towards His bright light.

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

  1. Friend Like That – Hawk Nelson
  2. Yours – Dizmas
  3. Casting Off – This Beautiful Republic
  4. Good Morning Planetarium – Falling Up
  5. The Flame In All Of Us – Thousand Foot Krutch

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 10 years ago this weekend – Sunday March 23RD 2008.

I saw Newsboys LIVE in concert last night in downtown Fort Lauderdale Florida at First Baptist Church. The jam-packed sanctuary was alive for God for their 27-hit set. Current lead singer Michael Tait led the first 6 hits, and then he began the 7TH hit “He Reigns” (one of my all-time favorites). After the first chorus Peter Furler and Phil Joel walked out front-and-center to continue the jam, and then they stampeded through 12 more of their classic hits of the 1990s and 2000s as Michael Tait took a break backstage. (Phil Joel was out earlier as one of the opening acts with his current band Zealand. Adam Agee of Stellar Kart and Audio Adrenaline was the first opening act and the host of the show.) After a short intermission Michael Tait returned for 7 more recent hits including “We Believe”. “Jesus Freak”, and “God’s Not Dead. For the encore the entire 6-man band were united on stage for their 27TH hit of the night, “The Cross Has The Final Word”.

It was an AMAZING show from start to finish, and the several thousand in attendance were on their feet singing, dancing, clapping, and raising arms in unison. It was a beautiful night for God’s church family in Fort Lauderdale Florida.

I’ll be back on Sunday with Scripture, and then on Monday it’s my brand new Top 10 music chart featuring a whole bunch of new entries. See you then.

… It’s all God’s children singing Glory Glory – Hallelujah – He reigns – He reigns.
