One lone new entry this week – the latest from Sidewalk Prophets – a band that I’m just now starting to get into. I saw them LIVE in concert last October in Southwest Florida (Estero) at “Big Church Night Out“, and they were amazing. I realized that I knew most of their songs that they performed because of my daily listening of K-LOVE. At that same concert – performing just before Sidewalk Prophets – 7eventh Time Down. Their hit “Only King Forever” was at # 6 in its 2ND week on this chart on the night of that concert.

This Scripture topped my Sermon this past Sunday morning:

Psalm 115:1 (NLT) – Not to us – O LORD not to us, but to Your name goes all the glory – for Your unfailing love and faithfulness.

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1988

  1. I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man – Prince
  2. Never Gonna Give You Up – Rick Astley
  3. What Have I Done To Deserve This ? – Pet Shop Boys With Dusty Springfield
  4. Hazy Shade Of Winter – The Bangles
  5. The Way You Make Me Feel – Michael Jackson

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 30 years ago this weekend – Sunday February 07TH 1988.

Back then a young 20-year-old version of me cranked-up Y-100 (Miami) and danced to the hottest pop hits in the land. I had just arrived at my new home – Homestead Air Force Base Florida – a few months earlier – and my only form of transportation was a 10-speed bike that got me all around the base. (A NEW CAR would arrive in 1989.)

Fun Fact:  Rick Astley turns 52 in a few days. He was 21 when “Never Gonna Give You Up” entered the U.K. pop charts during the Summer of 1987, and I was there !

I’ve been producing my own personal weekly hit music chart off and on for the past 30+ years. Next Friday it’s back to the future – to 10 years ago in 2008.

Here I am – God – arms wide open. Pouring out – my life – “Gracefully Broken”.

I love to sing along with Matt & Tasha whenever I hear that beautiful song on K-LOVE. It’s only a matter of time before we sing it as part of our Praise & Worship set on Sunday mornings.

At the start of my salvation – about 11½ years ago – I realized my need for God. For the first time ever I said, “I NEED YOU GOD !”, and I’ve been saying that ever since. In the early days I said it quietly – without talking. And God heard me. He hears our thoughts. Now I’m not afraid to say it out loud – no matter who’s there to hear me. I know God’s there to hear me, and He does, so that’s all that matters.

I realized that I’m spiritually poor without Him. God blessed me. The result – I found true happiness – true joy – once I realized that I can’t live without Him. The Kingdom of Heaven is mine. It’s ours.

Matthew 5:3 (NLT) – God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1998

  1. Walkin’ On The Sun – Smash Mouth
  2. Tubthumping – Chumbawamba
  3. Mo Money Mo Problems – The Notorious B.I.G. Ft. Puff Daddy & Mase
  4. Legend Of A Cowgirl – Imani Coppola
  5. As Long As You Love Me – The Backstreet Boys

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 20 years ago this weekend – Sunday January 25TH 1998.

4 of those 5 hits above I still hear on a fairly regular basis, but one has become obscure over the past 20 years, and that’s “Legend Of A Cowgirl”. I just watched the music video on YouTube, and I forgot how wonderful this song was (and still is). It’s got catchy lyrics and a beat that I can dance to. Sadly this single is not available for sale on iTunes. (I just checked. I was going to buy it.)

I’ve been producing my own personal weekly hit music chart off and on for the past 30+ years. Next Friday I’ll go back another 10 years to the first weekend of February of 1988.
