My Top 10 Hits – Week 259

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from the previous week. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here’s this week’s chart:

2020 – “Rescue Story” – Zach Williams
2019 – “Nobody Loves Me Like You” – Chris Tomlin
2018 – “Gracefully Broken” – Matt Redman Ft. Tasha Cobbs Leonard

NEW # 1 CONTENDER – As Jordan St. Cyr spends his 7TH week atop my chart Mac Powell becomes the 4TH artist to occupy the # 2 spot behind Jordan following Ryan Ellis, Crowder, and We Are Messengers. It’s Mac’s debut smash as a solo artist. He was previously the lead singer of Third Day for 27 years (1991-2018). Their “Soul On Fire” from 2015 is a favorite of mine as a recurrent that I didn’t discover until 2 years later (when this era began). I’m really liking Mac’s “River Of Life”. It’s got the same feel as “Soul On Fire”. A little more radio airplay on K-LOVE could propel it to # 1.

BRANDON HEATH – He’s back with his first hit on my chart in over 4 years (since “Whole Heart” peaked at # 2). His new track – “See Me Through It” – is poppy and catchy – easy to sing along and move around to. It should last a long time at U.S. Christian radio (and hence my chart). Here’s the official audio video that’s posted on Brandon’s YouTube account:

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1987

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 35 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday February 01ST 1987:

  1. “Someday'” – Glass Tiger
  2. “C’est La Vie” – Robbie Nevil
  3. “Walking Down Your Street” – The Bangles
  4. “Trampolene” – Julian Cope
  5. “I Love My Radio” – Taffy

Julian Cope was one of my favorite singers on the radio in late-1986 and early-1987. His “Saint Julian” album was actually released after his two hit singles from the album – “World Shut Your Mouth” (which actually became a mainstream rock hit stateside) – and “Trampolene”. I liked both songs equally. They were quite hard rock for British Top 40 radio at the time (not known for much rock). I guess both songs could best be described as “psychedelic pop punk”.

Here’s the music video for “Trampolene”:

January / February 1987 was a great time for pop music in my life as a 19½-year-old living in Gloucestershire England. My 2-year U.S. military tour of the region was more than half-done and on the downhill, so I knew that I had to maximize my limited time remaining by exploring the area and enjoying the arts and entertainment when not working at my job.

I attended 2 LIVE concerts in January 1987 – The Human League at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, and Frankie Goes To Hollywood (opened by Berlin led by Terri Nunn) in Birmingham.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 15 years ago to February 2007.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !

WEEK 258 – Well after a 1-week diversion last week from my weekly hit music chart (“My Concerts – 2021“) I am back with an all-new published Top 10. My chart continued on last week (unpublished) with minimal movements and no new entries. This is the 258TH week of the 3RD era of my chart. I’ll be celebrating 5 years of this era next month. That’s 5 years of listening to K-LOVE on the radio !

WEARY TRAVELER – Jordan St. Cyr spends his 6TH week atop my chart with his sleeper smash “Weary Traveler”. It’s now doubled the number of weeks at # 1 of “Fires” – Jordan’s debut smash that was my # 1 smash of all of last year. “Weary Traveler” turned-out to be the instant anthem of my long 18-day road-trip this past November between South Florida and North Texas. It was also the most-played song (and very appropriate) during the Christmas season. Finally it played on the radio during my short (1-hour) drive home from PortMiami and my recent cruise vacation. ♫ I won’t be weary long. ♫

Here’s the brand new (just released) official music video for “Weary Traveler”:

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1992

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 25, 30, or 35 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 19TH 1992:

  1. “Black Or White” – Michael Jackson
  2. “Can’t Let Go” – Mariah Carey
  3. “He Don’t Know” – Huey Lewis And The News
  4. “Kiss Them For Me” – Siouxsie And The Banshees
  5. “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” – George Michael & Elton John

“Kiss Them For Me” – What a great song that is. I consider it to be one of the greatest songs of all-time. It’s definitely the song that I’ve performed (sang) on “Rock Band” more than any other. It’s my signature song. It was quirky 30 years ago, and it’s just as quirky today. It was produced by Stephen Hague who is the man behind some of my other greatest songs of all-time from Erasure, New Order, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, and Pet Shop Boys.

At the box office later in January 1992 I saw “Kuffs” starring Christian Slater. Anyone remember that ? No ? I didn’t think so.

I do remember this though – my Washington Redskins won Super Bowl XXVI 37-24 over the Buffalo Bills 30 years ago this month.

Next #RetroFriday I’ll go back 35 years ago to January 1987.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going retro with me !
