Tuesday Night Grab Bag O’ Thoughts

It’s the final weekly edition of 2008, and it goes a little something like this:

1.  It’s the 365TH day of the year. 75% of the time that day is New Year’s Eve, but this was a magic year – one of those rare leap years that only occurs whenever we have a Presidential Election – and a Summer Olympics. Tomorrow is Day 366 of 2008, and at the end of it we can put a bow on it and wrap it up and place it within our vast archives of Life.

2.  My Grandmom would have been 93-years-old today. She joined her Creator in 2004. My Granddad would have been 97-years-old this Saturday. He’s been with the Angels since 1994. I have nothing but good memories of both of them from the 1970s into the 1980s.

3.  I believe that this month will go down as one of the warmest Decembers here in South Florida America’s Riviera over the past 100 years – just as last month was one of the chilliest Novembers in modern recorded history. If this trend keeps up then cold weather should return to us in January. It’s all about the jet stream kid !

4.  I got a lot of nice Christmas cards and gifts over the past month. Apparently I have a reputation of a dude who adores shopping at Publix (where shopping is a pleasure) because I received several gift cards from the joint. Word has obviously leaked out that I shop at Publix more than any other store in the entire universe !

5.  Criticize them all you wish, but I can never get enough of KFC‘s Sauceless Hot Wings and Potato Wedges. That’s what I enjoyed for Lunch today. I could have eaten double the amount that I did of wings and wedges. In fact they should make a bucket called ‘Wings & Wedges’ where they just fill ‘er up. I’d buy it up dude !

Those are my thoughts, and I thank you for allowing me to share them with you.

Life Pointe Church Plantation Key Lime Pie

This morning a cool dude at the Homestead campus of Life Pointe Church asked me if I was going to be at the Plantation Key campus tonight. I said ‘No’, and I followed-up my response with the fact that I would be at home watching my precious Washington Redskins on local TV this afternoon.

About an hour later I was filling up my car with gas at Chevron in preparation for a possible visit to the Plantation Key campus.

Four hours later I was driving down U.S. 1 on my way there.

Jesus is more important than the Redskins. Jesus is urgent.

Pastor Bill Wilson had me in stitches and moved me to tears during this morning’s first service at the Homestead campus. There was no way that he could possibly do that all over again during tonight’s service, right ?  Wrong.

I get it.

Check out Pastor Bill’s Wikipedia entry.

Life Pointe Church Sunday Morning Tossed Salad

It’s a warm, windy, and muggy final Sunday morning of November here in Homestead, and we are the church that meets at the movie theatre in the heart of the city. Catch one of our three services every Sunday morning. They start promptly with ‘Praise & Worship’ as we all sing to Him at 8:30, 9:45, and 11:00. We also have a 6:00 PM service every Sunday night at our Plantation Key campus.

Pastor Paul led this morning’s services for the final time. He and his family will soon be on their way to a new Life in Tennessee as they continue their ministries there. Paul and his family may be leaving us physically, but they are still – and will always be – on God’s fantastic journey with us. I’ve personally learned a lot from Paul about God and His journey and purpose for me over the past 18 months. I’ve learned more from Paul than from anyone else. Paul has been a mentor for me. Paul has encouraged and inspired me to be less like the world and more like a Disciple of Jesus Christ.

But here on the journey one should never be comfortable. If you’re comfortable then you’re not growing. You’re not moving forward. You’re stagnant. You’re dying.

Jonah 3 – Jonah Goes To Nineveh (NLT, 2ND Ed.)

1  Then the LORD spoke to Jonah a second time:
2  “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.”
3  This time Jonah obeyed the LORD’s command and went to Nineveh, a city so large that it took three days to see it all.
4  On the day Jonah entered the city, he shouted to the crowds: “Forty days from now Nineveh will be destroyed !”
5  The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow.
6  When the king of Nineveh heard what Jonah was saying, he stepped down from his throne and took off his royal robes. He dressed himself in burlap and sat on a heap of ashes.
7  Then the king and his nobles sent this decree throughout the city: “No one, not even the animals from your herds and flocks, may eat or drink anything at all.
8  People and animals alike must wear garments of mourning, and everyone must pray earnestly to God. They must turn from their evil ways and stop all their violence.
9  Who can tell ?  Perhaps even yet God will change his mind and hold back his fierce anger from destroying us.”
10  When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.
