My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2000

Every 2ND, 3RD, and 4TH Friday of the month I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 20 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 15TH 2000:

  1. “Country Grammar” – Nelly
  2. “You’re A God” – Vertical Horizon
  3. “With Arms Wide Open” – Creed
  4. “It’s My Life” – Bon Jovi
  5. “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)” – 98°

Well that was quite the eclectic Top 5 back in 2000. I had raunchy hip hop at the top (cleaned-up for the radio), 2 songs about God almost 6 years before I knew God, Bon Jovi’s final big chart hit, and a Latin-like ballad from boy band 98°. That Bon Jovi track still sounds great 20 years later. I hear it almost every day via my iPod Shuffles at work. It was my # 4 hit of all of #Y2K. It spent 26 weeks in a row on my chart from June to December.

At the movies I saw the memorable “Meet The Parents” back on October 21ST 2000. It was 1 of 27 movies I saw in 2000 – a new record up to that point. So far in 2020 I’ve only seen 2 movies – the lowest since 1995.

This is my final “look back” at 2000. Big changes are coming to RETRO starting next month and into December. I’ll be removing 20 years ago from the monthly rotation, and I’ll be adding 25 years ago and 35 years ago. My hit music chart began 35 years ago next month in England, and 25 years ago this month it was resurrected after a 3-year hiatus. The beginnings of both of these distinct eras are intriguing, and I’m looking forward to looking back at these music memories of my life.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Top 10 Hits – Week 191

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 11TH 2020:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 1 9 God So Loved We The Kingdom
2 2 7 Rise Up (Lazarus) Cain
3 3 6 No Hold On Me Matty Mullins
4 8 8 Who Am I NeedToBreathe
5 5 6 This Is What We Live For Big Daddy Weave
6 1 Truth Be Told Matthew West
7 10 2 Start Right Here Casting Crowns
8 9 2 Jericho Andrew Ripp
9 6 6 Into The Sea (It’s Gonna Be OK) Tasha Layton
10 1 You Keep Hope Alive Mandisa Ft. Jon Reddick

# 1 This Week In:
2019 – “Fear No More” – Building 429
2018 – “Only Jesus” – Casting Crowns
2017 – “The Gospel” – Ryan Stevenson

We The Kingdom are still at # 1 on my chart with my favorite song on the radio. It’s their 5TH week at the top for “God So Loved”. That’s makes it my longest-running # 1 smash since June when The Afters spent 6 weeks at # 1 with “I Will Fear No More”.

My favorite male solo artist – Matthew West – is back with his 5TH hit in 3 years. His first 4 hits all hit # 1 or # 2 (“All In”), and his new one – “Truth Be Told” – could very well be on its way to the top as well. It’s actually been hanging around online for about a year now, but it’s new to Christian radio over the past couple of months. It’s from his “Brand New” album. (That’s the name of it.)

Check-out the official music video for “Truth Be Told” either below or over on YouTube.

After two postponements in 2020 his Southwest Florida concert supporting Casting Crowns (on their “Only Jesus” tour) is back on the docket for March of 2021, and I’ll (hopefully) be there to enjoy a night of great music for the Lord.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2005

Every 2ND, 3RD, and 4TH Friday of the month I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 2ND Friday of the month, so I go back 15 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 09TH 2005:

  1. “Don’t Lie” – The Black Eyed Peas
  2. “Gold Digger” – Kanye West
  3. “Wake Me Up When September Ends” – Green Day
  4. “Mr. Brightside” – The Killers
  5. “Feel Good Inc.” – Gorillaz

After a string of forgettable songs on Top 5 charts from the underwhelming year that was 2005 – finally – a collection of memorable hits on a chart with great variety.

“Wake Me Up When September Ends” is one of my favorite Green Day songs. I usually play it in heavy rotation on my iPod Shuffles all September long, and then when September ends – I remove it from rotation. This year was no different. It was their 5TH and final hit on my chart between 1996 and 2005.

Just Like Heaven

At the movies I saw “Just Like Heaven” back on October 22ND 2005. It starred Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. It received good reviews by critics and moviegoers, and it was a box office hit. I rated it as 3.5 stars (out of 4).

My Top 10 Hits – Week 190

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday October 04TH 2020:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 1 8 God So Loved We The Kingdom
2 3 6 Rise Up (Lazarus) Cain
3 4 5 No Hold On Me Matty Mullins
4 2 7 The Blessing Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes, Elevation Worship
5 5 5 This Is What We Live For Big Daddy Weave
6 8 5 Into The Sea (It’s Gonna Be OK) Tasha Layton
7 9 7 Peace Be Still Hope Darst
8 10 7 Who Am I NeedToBreathe
9 1 Jericho Andrew Ripp
10 1 Start Right Here Casting Crowns

# 1 This Week In:
2019 – “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West
2018 – “Only Jesus” – Casting Crowns
2017 – “The Gospel” – Ryan Stevenson

We The Kingdom are still at # 1 on my chart with my favorite song on the radio. It’s their 4TH week at the top for “God So Loved” – 1 week more than “Holy Water” spent at # 1 to kickoff 2020.

There’s not too much movement up and down on my chart this week, and there was no movement at all during the previous week which was unpublished. I was in vacation mode, and then K-LOVE went into fundraising mode. The fundraising resumes today for another few more days, so I may listen to a bit more The Message on SiriusXM. They tend to have a wider playlist for current hits, so I’m sure I’ll hear some great new music on there that I’ve never heard before.

This concludes a short weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – a full slate with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.
