# 1 Summer Of:
2019 – “Raise A Hallelujah” – Bethel Music
2018 – “Do It Again” – Elevation Worship
2017 – “Wonder” – Hillsong UNITED

I mentioned it 8 days ago here on my blog. A sleeper smash has dominated my chart this summer. I never saw it coming. It’s a song that probably shouldn’t have charted all along. It’s from a 10-song album – “Trial & Triumph” – that was released over 2½ years ago in March of 2018. It’s been on YouTube since before then. It was released as a single in 2019, and it peaked at Christian radio nationwide this past May. It debuted on my chart the week before this summer began, as airplay was ramping-up on K-LOVE. It’s the only song that spent all 16 weeks of summer (from start to finish) on my chart. Congratulations to I AM THEY with their sleeper smash of the summer – “No Impossible With You”.

There were really no other surprises for my summertime chart. Every # 1 smash made it. Every song that spent at least 1 week at # 2 made it. No artist repeated from last summer. It was a solid summer of good music for the Lord based on Good News from the Lord.

Much like all of 2020 (since March) – I’ll remember this unique summer for years to come. It’s the summer that I spent more time at home than anywhere else, and I was doing something strange at home that I had never done before (this year) – work from home. And while I was working from home I was listening to continuous positive and encouraging hits on K-LOVE. I think I’ve listened to more radio this summer than in any previous summer in modern times.

If you’re not familiar with one or any of these songs then use Google, Bing, or YouTube to check them out. Enjoy the music, but especially listen to the words. The words of these songs represent God’s Word. Any one of these songs can change your life forever. God used music to rescue and save me from the darkness during the Summer Of 2006.

He has given me a new song to sing – a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done, and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD. (Psalm 40:3 NLT)

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter and Flickr.

Be blessed my friends !  May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

My Top 10 Hits – Week 186

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday September 06TH 2020:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 1 6 Miracles Colton Dixon
2 3 4 God So Loved We The Kingdom
3 4 3 The Blessing Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes, Elevation Worship
4 2 17 No Impossible With You I AM THEY
5 1 This Is What We Live For Big Daddy Weave
6 8 2 Rise Up (Lazarus) Cain
7 1 No Hold On Me Matty Mullins
8 9 3 Who Am I NeedToBreathe
9 10 3 Peace Be Still Hope Darst
10 1 Into The Sea (It’s Gonna Be OK) Tasha Layton

# 1 This Week In:
2019 – “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West
2018 – “Who You Say I Am” – Hillsong Worship
2017 – “Broken Things” – Matthew West

Colton Dixon remains at # 1 for a 3RD week with my favorite song on the radio. It’s likely his final week at # 1, as both We The Kingdom and the Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes, and Elevation Worship collaboration are making the Top 3 full with glorious new music and lyrics for Christ our Savior.

Debuting high at # 5 is the latest track from one of my favorite bands – Big Daddy Weave. Their 4TH hit since 2017 sounds awesome, and I love to sing along to it whenever I hear it. It’s truly got that trademark Big Daddy Weave sound and melody to it where if you hear it for the first time – you may guess that it’s a Big Daddy Weave song before the deejay tells you so.

I always love debut artists on the radio and on my chart. I love to hear new music from artists who I’ve never heard of before. This week I’m blessed to love new music from Matty Mullins and Tasha Layton. Matty’s been around for about a dozen years as part of the Mainstream and Christian hard rock scene with his band Memphis May Fire. Tasha has sung background vocals for Katy Perry. She was a contestant during the 2010 season of American Idol.

Well normally this is the end of another weekend of blogging, but I’m not done yet. I’ll have a special Tuesday blog post tomorrow. It’s my annual end-of-summer chart. I’ll #CountUp my Top 10 hits of the Summer of 2020 (from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend).

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1985

Every 2ND, 3RD, and 4TH Friday of the month I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so it’s a special. Back in 1985 I was an 18-year-old USAF Airman Basic living in a dorm at Chanute AFB near Rantoul Illinois. In September I was in my 2ND month of technical school – learning how to do my future job. We were approaching the halfway point of our 12-week class. For the first 6 weeks class started early in the morning, and it continued until the middle of the afternoon. For the remaining 6 weeks we went to a “swing shift” schedule – starting in the middle of the afternoon, and continuing until late at night. That got us accustomed to the various schedules that we could face while working our job at our first permanent duty station.

I’m still having fun over on Facebook at the Chanute AFB Veterans page – enjoying the classic photos and reminiscing about my short time there on that base surrounded by cornfields. I wish I had photos to share, but sadly I didn’t own a camera or take pictures back then. I had a lot of fun though with my classmates and dormmates !

These were the hottest hits in the land exactly 35 years ago this weekend – for the week ending Sunday September 08TH 1985:

  1. “St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)” – John Paar
  2. “The Power Of Love” – Huey Lewis And The News
  3. “We Don’t Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)” – Tina Turner
  4. “Freeway Of Love” – Aretha Franklin
  5. “Summer Of ’69” – Bryan Adams

Good solid pop / light-rock music set back then. That’s what played on my static-filled AM radio in my 1980 Chevy Citation (my first car). #MusicRadioWLSChicago

Next week on RETRO it’s back to my regularly-scheduled program. I’ll go back 15 years to the 2ND week of September of 2005.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with 3 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Top 10 Hits – Week 185

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. It’s the continuation of a weekly hobby that goes back 40+ years. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday August 30TH 2020:

TW LW WKS SONG TITLE ARTIST / SITE
1 1 5 Miracles Colton Dixon
2 3 16 No Impossible With You I AM THEY
3 7 3 God So Loved We The Kingdom
4 8 2 The Blessing Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes, Elevation Worship
5 2 11 There Was Jesus Zach Williams Ft. Dolly Parton
6 4 25 Alive & Breathing Matt Maher
7 5 20 Keep Me In The Moment Jeremy Camp
8 1 Rise Up (Lazarus) Cain
9 9 2 Who Am I NeedToBreathe
10 10 2 Peace Be Still Hope Darst

# 1 This Week In:
2019 – “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West
2018 – “Who You Say I Am” – Hillsong Worship
2017 – “Broken Things” – Matthew West

Colton Dixon remains at # 1 for a 2ND week with my favorite song on the radio. In addition to the lyrics of “Miracles” I love its feel. I love its beat. It almost gets funky at one point during the song where I wish I had bongo drums to play along to the beat.

I AM THEY ease back up a notch to # 2 after slipping to # 3 last week with their former # 1 smash “No Impossible With You”. You know each summer there’s a sleeper smash that I never saw coming. It’s the song that will likely remind me (personally) of this summer season years from now. I think this is it. It’ll be interesting to see where this song lands on my special chart next Tuesday September 08TH when I #CountUp my Top 10 hits of the Summer of 2020 (from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend).

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again this upcoming weekend – with 5 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday, and a special Tuesday edition. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.
