My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1990

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 28TH 1990:

  1. “Dangerous” – Roxette
  2. “Leave A Light On” – Belinda Carlisle
  3. “It’s Not Enough” – Starship
  4. “Janie’s Got A Gun” – Aerosmith
  5. “Roam” – The B-52s

1990 was a great year for Top 40 music on the radio. It was the start of the greatest decade of pop music of my lifetime; although, I’ve always considered 1989 to be the theoretical start of 1990s music.

My iTunes library contains almost 300 hits from the 1990s (and another 30+ from 1989) – more than any other decade by far. I listen to ’90s music at my desk at work all day every day (amongst hits from other decades).

I can’t believe that 1990 was 30 years ago !  It was quite the momentous year for me. The Summer Of 1990 will be remembered as the Summer Of Rock & Roll on Panama City Beach Florida. It was a wonderful summer (at the time) – that will never happen again. It was fun for a season. 20½ years later – a few days before Christmas of 2010 – I went back to the scene of the crime – more mature, more educated, and saved by the Grace of God – to literally repent for what happened back then in 1990.

So every 4TH Friday of the month this year I’ll take you back to my 1990 – and the soundtrack of my life back then as a 22 and 23-year-old active duty military guy.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Top 10 Hits – Week 153

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. This week I’m doing it on Tuesday due to the U.S. holiday yesterday. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 19TH 2020:

  1. “Holy Water” – We The Kingdom [# 1 last week / 8TH week on chart]
  2. “Rescue Story” – Zach Williams [2 / 15TH]
  3. “The God Who Stays” – Matthew West [3 / 9TH]
  4. “Almost Home” – MercyMe [4 / 5TH]
  5. “Smile” – Sidewalk Prophets [5 / 7TH]
  6. “Your Name Is Power” – Rend Collective [8 / 2ND]
  7. “Unstoppable God” – Sanctus Real [6 / 11TH]
  8. “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West [7 / 25TH]
  9. “Like You Love Me” – Tauren Wells [- / 1ST]
  10. “In The Arms” – Terrian [10 / 3RD]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Nobody Loves Me Like You” – Chris Tomlin

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Lions” – Skillet

“Holy Water” holds at # 1 for a 3RD week in a row, but this could be its final week at the top of my chart. Zach, Matthew, and the MercyMe crew are heating-up in the next 3 chart positions, and any 1 of them could take over the top spot next week.

Yesterday afternoon I returned home from a 3-day / 3-county / 360-mile Florida road-trip to and from Fort Myers. I listened to a lot of K-LOVE on the radio in my car and even some WAY-FM. Next week’s chart should be very active. I’ll write all about my road-trip in just 48 hours as I begin a new weekend of blogging this upcoming Thursday morning.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. I’m also on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL.

Enjoy this new week my friends !  May the God of hope fill you completely with joy and peace as you trust in Him.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2000

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 20 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 16TH 2000:

  1. “My Love Is Your Love” – Whitney Houston
  2. “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” – Eiffel 65
  3. “Then The Morning Comes” – Smash Mouth
  4. “Falls Apart” – Sugar Ray
  5. “Steal My Sunshine” – Len

20 years ago this week we were 3 weeks into the new year, decade, century, and millennium. Whitney Houston’s “My Love Is Your Love” (Jonathan Peters’ Radio Mix) was spending its 4TH and final week at # 1. It’s still in heavy airplay via my iPod Shuffles at my desk at work, and it played today, and I sang along with Whitney. It still sounds great today (as does Len’s “Steal My Sunshine”).

The Top 5 of my pop chart 20 years ago has 4 # 1 smash hits – including a future one. Eiffel 65’s quirky worldwide pop and dance smash “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” would go on to replace Whitney at # 1 a week later in January 2000. If you forgot how that song sounded like, or if you (like me) never saw the music video for it back in the day – then check it out:

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday with 3 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Top 10 Hits – Week 152

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday January 12TH 2020:

  1. “Holy Water” – We The Kingdom [# 1 last week / 7TH week on chart]
  2. “Rescue Story” – Zach Williams [6 / 14TH]
  3. “The God Who Stays” – Matthew West [7 / 8TH]
  4. “Almost Home” – MercyMe [5 / 4TH]
  5. “Smile” – Sidewalk Prophets [4 / 6TH]
  6. “Unstoppable God” – Sanctus Real [2 / 10TH]
  7. “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West [3 / 24TH]
  8. “Your Name Is Power” – Rend Collective [- / 1ST]
  9. “Faith” – Jordan Feliz [8 / 14TH]
  10. “In The Arms” – Terrian [10 / 2ND]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Nobody Loves Me Like You” – Chris Tomlin

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Lions” – Skillet

“Holy Water” remains at # 1, as I sing along to it every time I hear it on the radio. I especially love these lyrics:

♫ Dead man walking – slave to sin
I wanna know about being born again
I need You
O God I need You ♫

Christ said, “I assure you. No one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit … You must be born again.”
(John 3:5,7b)

There’s significant chart movement below # 1. That includes the current hit from Zach Williams. His “Rescue Story” rises to # 2 this week – tying the # 2 peak of his debut smash from the Summer of 2017 – “Old Church Choir”. (“Chain Breaker” was a 2016 smash for Zach – a year before this chart was resurrected.)

Rend Collective from the United Kingdom (Northern Ireland) are back on my chart for the first time in 18 months with their current radio song “Your Name Is Power”.

Coming up in 5 weeks this current era of my chart celebrates its 3RD anniversary. To mark the occasion I’ll present my Top 20 hits of the past 3 years representing 157 weekly music charts. I’ll do so on a special Tuesday blog post on that Presidents’ Day holiday weekend here in the U.S.

Next weekend is a holiday weekend as well – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday January 20TH. I’ll post a special blog on that day. That pushes my next Top 10 music chart to next Tuesday.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – with 5 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
