My Top 10 Hits – Week 144

Every Monday I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday November 17TH 2019:

  1. “Fear No More” – Building 429 [# 1 last week / 16TH week on chart]
  2. “Nobody (But Jesus)” – Casting Crowns Ft. Matthew West [2 / 16TH]
  3. “Dead Man Walking” – Jeremy Camp [4 / 18TH]
  4. “Burn The Ships” – for King & Country [3 / 9TH]
  5. “Faith” – Jordan Feliz [5 / 6TH]
  6. “Up Again” – Dan Bremnes [7 / 8TH]
  7. “I’m Gonna Let It Go” – Jason Gray [6 / 15TH]
  8. “Unstoppable God” – Sanctus Real [8 / 2ND]
  9. “Rescue Story” – Zach Williams [9 / 6TH]
  10. “Believer” – Rhett Walker [- / 1ST]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Only Jesus” – Casting Crowns

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“Different” – Micah Tyler

No change at the top – as Building 429 spends its 6TH week in a row at # 1. Perhaps the most remarkable chart movement (over the past few weeks) has been the resurgence of Jeremy Camp’s long-running “Dead Man Walking”. After peaking at # 3 for 4 weeks in a row in September and then falling to # 9 last month – it’s back at # 3 – and there’s a potential run at # 1.

Next week’s chart will be compiled, but it won’t be presented online. This blog post serves as my Autumn Season Finale. I’m going offline and on hiatus for the rest of November. I’ll be back on Sunday December 01ST 2019 with “Sunday Scripture”, and then the next day I’ll present my brand new Top 10 hit music chart.

For my U.S. family, friends, and followers I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving next week filled with family, friends, faith, fellowship, food, football, and fun.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. Enjoy these next 2 weeks my friends. I’m on Twitter @ChrisMDay, and I’m also the man behind the tweets for my church @LivingWatersHFL. May the God of hope fill you completely with joy and peace as you trust in Him.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1999

Every Friday I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 3RD Friday of the month, so I go back 20 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday November 14TH 1999:

  1. “American Woman” – Lenny Kravitz
  2. “I Need To Know” – Marc Anthony
  3. “Shake Your Bon-Bon” – Ricky Martin
  4. “Mambo No. 5” – Lou Bega
  5. “My Love Is Your Love” – Whitney Houston

Depending on which radio market you were living in at the end of 1999, and which radio format you were listening to – you got one of several different versions of Whitney Houston’s smash hit, “My Love Is Your Love”. Back then I lived in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale Florida radio market (still do today), and I listened to heritage Top 40 (dance-leaning) Y-100 (no longer do). They exclusively played the techno-light “Jonathan Peters’ Radio Mix”. It was actually the only version that I knew existed – until I figured out that it was actually a dance remix of a much slower original version.

It would eventually become my final # 1 smash of the 1990s – and first # 1 smash of the 2000s. It spent 4 weeks at # 1 on my chart at the time. 20 years later it’s still in heavy rotation at my workplace via my iPod Shuffles. It’s my favorite Whitney Houston song of all-time. I think maybe “How Will I Know” is my 2ND-favorite.

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday and Monday with 2 more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

Weekend Kickoff Mini-Thoughts

Let’s try this again – a rapid-fire session of thoughts on my mind right this minute:

  • It’s been awhile since I last did this.
  • In fact it’s been 5 weeks.
  • I enjoy writing these spontaneous off-the-top-of-my-head “Mini-Thoughts”.
  • Let’s get started, as I look at my wall calendar.
  • Can you believe that November is nearly half-over ?
  • Thanksgiving Day (here in the U.S.A.) is 2 weeks from today !
  • This will be my final Thursday blog post of November.
  • I’m going offline again next week, so no new blog posts.
  • I’m going on a 12-day hiatus from blogging and social media.
  • After this weekend’s full slate of posts I won’t post again until December.
  • That’s December 01ST when I return with “Sunday Scripture”.
  • This has been a big year for attending shows and concerts.
  • My 9TH concert of 2019 was this past Sunday night.
  • I enjoyed Casting Crowns, Hillsong Worship, and Elevation Worship.
  • I wrote a nice review of it this past Monday here on the blog.
  • My 10TH concert is coming up on December 22ND.
  • I’m seeing comedian Jim Gaffigan LIVE in concert in West Palm Beach.
  • 10 shows and concerts in a single year makes it one of my biggest years ever.
  • 33 years ago tonight I was at the Oxford (England) Apollo at a concert.
  • I saw Ultravox back when they were big in England.
  • I still have my original tee-shirt that I bought at the concert !

IMG_4197

  • That tee-shirt doesn’t fit me anymore.
  • I weigh over 40 pounds more now than I did back then when I was 19.
  • Ultravox scored with a minor Top 40 hit at the time – “Same Old Story”.
  • I always thought that the song underperformed.
  • It didn’t get much airplay on national radio, and that stunted its growth.
  • I think it’s one of the greatest songs of my life.
  • I still love it 33 years later.
  • Its style of music wasn’t particularly popular in the U.K. in 1986.
  • Check out lead singer Midge Ure practically inventing the “selfie stick”:

  • I don’t think I’ve ever featured a music video as a “Mini-Thought” before.
  • That was Midge Ure at 33 – half his age than he is now.
  • I had a wonderful 2-year stay in the U.K.
  • This weekend marks 32 years since I left and moved back home stateside.
  • I haven’t been back since, but sometime I’ll make it back.
  • Well the Arctic Blast has avoided South Florida so far.
  • Our lowest temperature recorded so far is a mere 67°F.
  • But much cooler air should invade us this weekend.
  • We could actually drop into the upper-50s by Sunday morning !
  • The natives will be breaking out their flannels, coats, and hats.
  • We may not reach 80°F all weekend !
  • Incidentally I live in Homestead Florida.
  • This is the home of the NASCAR Championship !
  • The Homestead-Miami Speedway is just 3 miles from my home.
  • I’ll actually be able to hear the echo of the cars racing this weekend.
  • You can watch all of the action LIVE on NBC-TV this Sunday at 2 PM.
  • Well that’s gonna do it for this edition of my “Mini-Thoughts”.
  • I’ll be back again tomorrow for my regular Friday feature. #RETRO

This past Sunday night I was among 13,000+ brothers and sisters of a MASSIVE church family at the BB&T Center in Sunrise Florida. It was a wonderful 3½-hour show, as we praised and worshiped our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ in unison.

Elevation Worship kicked-off the show with a 7-song setlist including their 4 big radio hits of the past couple of years, “O Come To The Altar”, “Do It Again”, “Resurrecting”, and “Echo”. This is actually the 2ND time that I’ve sung along to “Do It Again” LIVE in concert. Mack Brock (former lead singer of Elevation Worship and cowriter of the song) performed it LIVE on his tour with Hillsong United this past May. Fun Fact:  “Do It Again” is the # 1 smash out of 136 hits since this current “K-LOVE Era” of my chart began in February 2017.

Hillsong Worship were up next with an 8-song setlist. Of the 3 bands on the stage that night I was least familiar with their music, but I surely knew “Who You Say I Am” and “What A Beautiful Name” – both # 1 hits at Christian pop radio. They also performed “Mighty To Save” which I know more from Praise & Worship at my own local church than I do as a Hillsong Worship song.

Following an inspirational message leading-in to a Compassion International fundraising event and a brief intermission after that – Casting Crowns – led by Mark Hall – took to the stage, and they performed 10 hits in a row – nearly all of which I knew !  “Only Jesus” kicked-off their hitlist. It’s the longest-running # 1 smash (at 10 weeks) during this current era of my chart. “Thrive” (surprisingly) got a huge response. “Nobody (But Jesus)” was their encore song, and deservedly so. It’s the track that everyone was waiting for. All of my brothers and sisters were clapping along and singing together loudly and proudly. Chris Brown – lead singer of Elevation Worship – came out and performed the Matthew West part of the song, and he sounded just like Matthew West too. During the Megan Garrett part of the song all of the members of Elevation Worship and Hillsong Worship joined Casting Crowns together for a grande family finale.

As 13,000+ poured out of the arena into the South Florida darkness we were all singing bits and pieces of “Nobody (But Jesus)” – shining God’s light for all to see.

♫ ‘Cause I’m just a nobody – trying to tell everybody
All about Somebody – who saved my soul
Ever since You rescued me – You gave my heart a song to sing
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus
I’m living for the world to see nobody but Jesus ♫

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend (starting in just 48 hours) – with 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music.
