# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Do It Again” – Elevation Worship

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“The Comeback” – Danny Gokey

This will likely be the final week at # 1 for “Church (Take Me Back)” by Cochren & Co. Either Jamie Kimmett or Phil Wickham will score my next # 1 smash. Both of their current radio singles were released last year, and they were slow to build momentum at Christian pop radio. Jamie’s “Prize Worth Fighting For” was released in December 2018, and it’s currently in its 23RD week on Billboard’s Top 50 chart. Phil’s “Till I Found You” was released in April 2018 (over 14 months ago), and it’s currently in its 35TH week on Billboard’s chart.

♫ When every day is just another struggle
And every choice is an act of war
Gotta pray / gotta press on
To the prize worth fighting for
When it feels like I’ll never make it
When my heart’s crying out for more
Gotta pray / gotta press on
To the prize worth fighting for ♫

♫ I never knew anything lasts forever
Till I found You / till I found You
I never dreamed anything could be better
Till I found You / till I found You
You’re rewriting my story
And I’m brand new like a morning
Oh I never knew anything lasts forever
Till I found You / till I found You ♫

It’ll be an exciting chart next week to see who finds the top prize.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

Your likes, follows, and comments are always appreciated. Thank You for being part of my online ministry to share God’s Good News and win souls for Christ through His music. My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2009

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 1ST Friday of the month, so I go back 10 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 05TH 2009:

  1. “Open Season” – Air Five
  2. “Control” – Clemency
  3. “The Unavoidable Battle Of Feeling On The Outside” – FM Static
  4. “Best Night Of Our Lives” – Everyday Sunday
  5. “Code Name: Raven” – House Of Heroes

House Of Heroes from Hilliard / Columbus Ohio scored their 3RD big hit in a row 10 years ago this month. “Code Name: Raven” was the follow-up to “In The Valley Of The Dying Sun” (#9 in July 2008) and “Lose Control” (# 2 in January 2009). This one hit # 1. It replaced “Open Season” (later in July 2009).

It was a unique song with a different sound for Christian Rock radio at the time with complicated historical lyrics about war. Check out this “making of the song” video from AJ Babcock (guitarist) and Tim Skipper (lead singer) of the band.

♫ You’re the only reason I stayed
In this coward’s melee
I’d rather die than live without mercy and love
Sing while the city decays
We’d rather go up in flames
Lest we betray thy names of dignity and love ♫

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday afternoon and Monday night with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !

My Top 10 Hits – Week 124

Every Monday night I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday June 30TH 2019:

  1. “Church (Take Me Back)” – Cochren & Co. [# 1 last week / 19TH week]
  2. “Is He Worthy ?” – Chris Tomlin [2 / 13TH]
  3. “Prize Worth Fighting For” – Jamie Kimmett [4 / 12TH]
  4. “Till I Found You” – Phil Wickham [5 / 4TH]
  5. “Born Again” – Austin French [3 / 18TH]
  6. “Resurrecting” – Elevation Worship [6 / 12TH]
  7. “Greater Things” – Mack Brock [7 / 7TH]
  8. “Raise A Hallelujah” – Bethel Music [8 / 4TH]
  9. “Symphony” – Switch [9 / 4TH]
  10. ”God’s Not Done With You” – Tauren Wells [- / 1ST]

# 1 One Year Ago This Week:
“Do It Again” – Elevation Worship

# 1 Two Years Ago This Week:
“The Comeback” – Danny Gokey

Cochren & Co. are still at # 1 on my chart for a 3RD week in a row. Even more impressive is the fact that out of 118 charted songs since the resurrection of this chart in February of 2017 – “Church (Take Me Back)” is now ranked at # 5 overall during this era !

The local South Florida radio station that God used to rescue and save me nearly 13 years ago (next month) is getting ready to leave the terrestrial airwaves after 25 years. I’ve actually been listening to this radio station just a little bit in my car over the past few days, as K-LOVE has actually been mostly off-the-air here in South Florida due to maintenance and repair work on its 1,000-foot transmitter a few miles away from my home. My old radio station that I listened to faithfully for about 3½ years actually sounds more like it did from 2006 to 2009 than it did in 2010 when I drifted away from it. They even played several hits from the day. It was eerie hearing some of these hits from 10 to 13 years ago since I really haven’t tuned-in for over 9 years now. The station lost its way during the early-2010s, and they made promises to listeners they couldn’t keep. I stayed away from Christian radio for about 7 years – until I discovered K-LOVE 123 weeks ago.

This concludes another weekend of blog posts. I’ll do it again next weekend – 4 new entries on Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday. I don’t blog on Saturdays. That’s my day of rest.

My Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1989

Every Friday night I post the Top 5 of one of my classic hit music charts based on personal preference and influenced by radio airplay from either 10, 15, 20, or 30 years ago this weekend (rotating each week).

It’s the 4TH Friday of the month, so I go back 30 years ago. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday July 02ND 1989:

  1. “Baby Don’t Forget My Number” – Milli Vanilli
  2. “Good Thing” – Fine Young Cannibals
  3. “My Brave Face” – Paul McCartney
  4. “The Look” – Roxette
  5. “Satisfied” – Richard Marx

Yesterday on my “Weekend Kickoff Mini-Thoughts” I revealed that exactly 33 years ago (today) in London England at Wembley Stadium this young and energetic 19-year-old teenybopper attended the first concert of my life – the final Wham! show. I was singing and dancing and sweating during that 8-hour extravaganza.

It was the first of over 100 concerts I’ve attended and enjoyed. (I can’t remember ever attending a concert that I did not enjoy.)

Well exactly 30 years ago this weekend on Friday June 30TH 1989 this young and energetic 22-year-old tweenybopper was at the old Miami Arena (not there anymore) for the “Club MTV On Tour” concert featuring The Information Society, Lisa Lisa And Cult Jam, Milli Vanilli (performing their # 1 smash at the time – as well as a few others), Tone Loc, Was (Not Was), and hosted by “Downtown” Julie Brown and the Club MTV Dancers.

According to my handwritten notes from the day it was a rainy and mild night in Miami. We arrived at 6:15 PM, and we left at 12 Midnight. The arena was about 55 to 60% full. (I can’t remember who “we” are. Who did I go with to this concert ?)

I did watch “Club MTV” occasionally in the afternoon after work. It was essentially a modern and hipper version of “American Bandstand” or “Solid Gold”. I danced along in my military dormitory room. (No video exists of this action.)

It’s halftime my friends. I’ll be back on Sunday afternoon and Monday night with two more blog posts for this weekend. Enjoy your Saturday. Thanks for going RETRO with me !
