The Major’s Top 10 Hits – Week 65

Every Monday night I post my all-new Top 10 Christian hit music chart based on personal preference. Here it is – for the week ending Sunday May 13TH 2018:

  1. “The Way (New Horizon)” – Pat Barrett [# 7 last week / 2ND week on chart]
  2. “Do It Again” – Elevation Worship [6 / 2ND]
  3. “What A Friend” – Matt Maher [1 / 8TH]
  4. “Grace Got You” – MercyMe [4 / 6TH]
  5. “No Matter What” – Ryan Stevenson Ft. Bart Millard [3 / 6TH]
  6. “All In” – Matthew West [8 / 2ND]
  7. “I Just Need U.” – TobyMac [5 / 8TH]
  8. “Freedom Hymn” – Austin French [2 / 8TH]
  9. “Resurrection Power” – Chris Tomlin [9 / 14TH]
  10. “Walking On Water” – NeedToBreathe [10 / 4TH]

We have a new # 1 smash this week, as Pat Barrett’s debut on this chart becomes the 21ST # 1 hit since its rebirthing Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017. It’s also 1 of 3 hits this week that were performed LIVE at “Worship Night In America” at the BB&T Center in Sunrise Florida several weekends ago. (“What A Friend” and “Resurrection Power” were the others.) What’s interesting is that Pat Barrett, Matt Maher, and Chris Tomlin all performed all 3 songs together on that glorious night.

Matt Maher’s “What A Friend” only got a single week at # 1. It’s the 3RD song (out of 21) to only spend a single week high atop this chart.

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

  1. Yours – Dizmas
  2. Shine Like The Stars – Stellar Kart
  3. Addicted – P.O.D.
  4. Face Down – Family Force 5
  5. Obvious – Manic Drive

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 10 years ago this weekend – Sunday May 11TH 2008.

I’ve attended many LIVE concerts ever since my first one 32 Summers ago in London England. But Manic Drive hold the distinction of being the headliner of my very first Christian concert. It was also the first concert I ever attended inside a traditional church sanctuary. They performed LIVE in concert right here in my hometown of Homestead Florida on the night of Saturday January 20TH 2007. That was exactly 5 months after salvation began for me. The concert was rockin’, but it seemed as if I was the oldest one in attendance – at the young age of 39. All of the kids at the show were well-behaved.

I found out at the show that Sunday morning church service was not held at their church building, but rather a couple of miles away at the brand new movie theatre in the city. I went there the very next morning. It was my first church service in over 30 years !

I became part of a church family on that Sunday morning after that Saturday night rock concert. I was no longer an orphan.

Nowadays I preach about how critical it is to be a part of a church family. You can’t walk this fantastic journey alone. You need brothers and sisters to walk alongside you.

Being a part of a church family should mean that you’re committed to the lives of your closest brothers and sisters on this journey. The love must start there. The love must be genuine. The love must be abundant. That’s God’s love for you. That’s the kind of love that will last out there in the world. That’s the kind of love that will witness to the world.

I’ll be back on Sunday with Scripture, and then on Monday it’s my brand new Top 10 music chart.

Enjoy this weekend my brothers and sisters. Be safe. Have fun. Go with God.

  9. “Resurrection Power” – Chris Tomlin [9 / 13TH]
  10. “Walking On Water” – NeedToBreathe [10 / 4TH]

We have a new # 1 smash this week, as Matt Maher’s debut on this chart becomes the 20TH # 1 hit since its rebirthing Presidents’ Day Weekend of 2017. It’s also 1 of 3 hits this week that were performed LIVE at “Worship Night In America” at the BB&T Center in Sunrise Florida a couple of weekends ago. (“The Way” and “Resurrection Power” were the others.) That was such a fantastic concert. I’ll be talking about it for a long time !

Before that concert I had no idea who Pat Barrett was, and then he sang to God. Once I heard “The Way (New Horizon)” I sang along (having never heard it before). I determined in that moment that it was an instant out-of-the-box smash. And then last week I heard it on K-LOVE for the first time, and I got so excited that I immediately tweeted them about that song, and even Pat joined in on all the fun. That tweet has now received over 1,650 impressions in 5 days.

The Way. The Truth. The Life. I believe You are.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NLT)

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1988

From my well-preserved archives …

  1. I Should Be So Lucky – Kylie Minogue
  2. Always On My Mind – The Pet Shop Boys
  3. Together Forever – Rick Astley
  4. Naughty Girls Need Love Too – Samantha Fox
  5. You Don’t Know – Scarlett And Black

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 30 years ago this weekend – Sunday May 08TH 1988.

One Australian (who is now British too) – and 4 British acts occupied my Top 5 back then. The late-1980s were a great time for danceable pop music – much of it imported from across the Atlantic.

High atop the Billboard Hot 100 on this week 30 years ago was “Wishing Well” from Terence Trent D’arby. Right behind him was Gloria Estefan And The Miami Sound Machine with “Anything For You” (which would climb to # 1 the following week).

Next Friday night I’ll jump forward 20 years to 2008 – the 22ND month of my Christian music revolution (which began my salvation).

Have a great weekend my brothers and sisters. I’ll be back on Sunday with Scripture.
