The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 2008

  1. Face Down – Family Force 5
  2. Friend Like That – Hawk Nelson
  3. The Flame In All Of Us – Thousand Foot Krutch
  4. Apathy For Apologies – Everyday Sunday
  5. Southern Weather – The Almost

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 10 years ago this weekend – Sunday April 13TH 2008.

Family Force 5 were an integral part of the soundtrack of the early years of my fantastic journey. Their hard rockin’ / heavy guitarin’ “Love Addict” hit this chart just one week after salvation began for me in late-August of 2006. I didn’t know what to make of it the first few times I heard it on the radio, but I knew that I loved the new sound of rock music with positive lyrics encouraging love – “Hold up. Wait a minute. Put a little love in it !”

Over the next few years they followed that up with “I Love You To Death”, “Never Let Me Go”, “Face Down”, “Radiator”, and “D-I-E 4 Y-O-U” (all hits on this chart). Nowadays founding members and twin brothers Jacob and Joshua Olds represent FF5 as a duo.

I’ll be back on Sunday with Scripture, and then on Monday it’s my brand new Top 10 music chart. We’ll see if Austin French can hold on at # 1 for a 2ND week in a row with his “Freedom Hymn”.

Enjoy this weekend my brothers and sisters. Be safe. Have fun. Go with God.

The Major’s Top 10 Hits – Week 60

  1. “Freedom Hymn” – Austin French [# 2 last week / 3RD week on chart]
  2. “I Just Need U.” – TobyMac [4 / 3RD]
  3. “No One Like Our God” – Lincoln Brewster [1 / 13TH]
  4. “Grace Got You” – MercyMe [- / 1ST]
  5. “What A Friend” – Matt Maher [9 / 3RD]
  6. “Gracefully Broken” – Matt Redman Ft. Tasha Cobbs Leonard [3 / 17TH]
  7. “No Matter What” – Ryan Stevenson Ft. Bart Millard [- / 1ST]
  8. “Come To The Table” – Sidewalk Prophets [6 / 10TH]
  9. “Resurrection Power” – Chris Tomlin [7 / 9TH]
  10. “Reckless Love” – Cory Asbury [8 / 3RD]

Austin French scores the 19TH # 1 smash of the rebirth of this personal weekly music chart. His “Freedom Hymn” debuted high on the chart (# 3) just 2 weeks ago. I like the story behind the song (which you can see on his web site).

It’s a great week for Bart Millard as he secures two new spots on the chart – with his own band (one of my favorites) – and with a dude he and his band have been on tour with recently (Ryan Stevenson). Both of those tunes sound very retro from decades gone by. Bart’s life story shown in “I Can Only Imagine” is on the verge of surpassing $70 million at the domestic box office. That’s 10 times its budget. It’s one of the highest-grossing faith-based movies of all-time !

Yesterday in Miami I attended the Greater Miami Youth For Christ annual fundraising dinner. It was my 4TH in a row since 2015. They always put on a great inspirational program that definitely glorifies God. It’s frustrating seeing teens today on the wrong side of the law – with no guidance and direction. It’s awesome to see the teens that have been adopted by the Youth For Christ family. They have bright futures on their journeys forward, and Christ will lead them every step of the way if they continue to believe in Him and follow His lead.

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me – you won’t have to walk in darkness – because you will have the light that leads to life.” (John 8:12 NLT)

The Major’s Top 5 Hits RETRO – 1988

IMG_2956

From my well-preserved archives …

  1. You Don’t Know – Scarlett And Black
  2. Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car – Billy Ocean
  3. Devil Inside – INXS
  4. Shattered Dreams – Johnny Hates Jazz
  5. Just Like Paradise – David Lee Roth

These were my Top 5 hits exactly 30 years ago this weekend – Sunday April 10TH 1988.

WAY back before social media and the Interwebs existed this is how I compiled my hit music charts every week – via loose-leaf paper (left over from high school) and a 3-ring notebook. I’ve carefully preserved these relics of Chris M. Day history, and it’s fun to look back and check them out all these years later.

30 years ago this weekend my family was in town (as the headline above states) – visiting from the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C. (where I’m originally from). We spent several nights at a luxury hotel on the south end of Key Largo, and we visited the island chain all the way down to Key West. They also got a tour of the local Homestead area including the Air Force Base where I worked and lived at the time. (I still work there today.)

I had my nearly 13-year-old brother (Danny) compile a Top 10 music chart that week while he was here. The only song on his chart that was on my chart (above) – Devil Inside from INXS. We both loved that song !

I’ll be back on Sunday night with Scripture from my sermon, and then on Monday night it’s my brand new Top 10 music chart with a brand new # 1 smash !

May God bless you – always and forever – AMEN !

The Major’s Top 10 Hits – Week 59

  1. “No One Like Our God” – Lincoln Brewster [# 1 last week / 12TH week on chart]
  2. “Freedom Hymn” – Austin French [3 / 2ND]
  3. “Gracefully Broken” – Matt Redman Ft. Tasha Cobbs Leonard [2 / 16TH]
  4. “I Just Need U.” – TobyMac [7 / 2ND]
  5. “Fear Is A Liar” – Zach Williams [4 / 8TH]
  6. “Come To The Table” – Sidewalk Prophets [6 / 9TH]
  7. “Resurrection Power” – Chris Tomlin [5 / 8TH]
  8. “Reckless Love” – Cory Asbury [8 / 2ND]
  9. “What A Friend” – Matt Maher [9 / 2ND]
  10. “So Will I (100 Billion X)” – Hillsong UNITED [10 / 4TH]

It’s a fairly benign chart this week with only one track making any type of substantial move. TobyMac’s latest – “I Just Need U.” – a song I really didn’t care for at first – has now really grown on me over the past couple of weeks. Last year his “Love Broke Thru” was an instant out-of-the-box smash that literally resurrected this music chart after a 7-year hiatus. When this chart was reborn (Presidents’ Day Weekend 2017) “Love Broke Thru” was the only song on it. The following week this chart expanded to a Top 3 – the next week – a Top 5 – and the next week – a Top 10 – which is what it’s been since then.

Next week it’ll probably be Austin French vs. TobyMac for the top spot.

In other Good News I’m about to receive my ordination credentials. I’ve been a born again Christian for 11½ years, and I’ve been preaching for 8½ years. I’m getting ready to preach to my current church family my 13TH full sermon over the past 18 months. My current plans are to retire from the Federal Government in 5 years (after 38 years of service) and evolve into full-time ministry. Receiving my ordination credentials now are an appropriate “next step” for me towards my goals.

If God has given you leadership ability – then take the responsibility seriously. (Romans 12:8c NLT)

Thank You – my brothers and sisters – for reading, liking, and following my blog – an online extension of my God-given ministry to win souls for Christ. May God bless you – always and forever – as we walk together on this fantastic journey !
