Sunday Scripture

Happy Sunday June 07TH 2020. This is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us praise and worship and celebrate our risen LORD on this day !

Our Lead Pastor Bob preached a sermon with a great title, “God Is Still In The Miracle-Working Business”. He is the same God yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He is a never-changing almighty God. What miracle do you want God to do for you ?  Have you asked Him for it yet ? He’s waiting for you to talk to Him about it, and listen and understand.

Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand. (Matthew 13:9 NLT)

I saw a tweet yesterday that I shared with my church family today. I’ve seen it in various forms recently. It said that we must hate our own sins more – than we hate the sins of others – who sin differently than we do.

Everyone is a sinner – each and every one of us. We all sin in different ways. The sin that we all commit the most – is the sin of hate. We don’t love everyone in the world. We don’t even love everyone in our own neighborhood. We think we do. We say we do. But we don’t. And we all know that. And we accuse others of hate – as we hate.

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all of the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40 NLT)

Sunday Scripture

On this 31ST and final day of May of 2020 my church family – the children of the lady – met corporately in our sanctuary for the first time in 77 days – since 11 Sundays ago.

Our Lead Pastor Bob welcomed us and addressed us, and then the Praise, Worship, and Celebration began – led by our Worship Pastor Ben and our sister Shirley. After the first song I greeted my church body with help from the start of the 122ND Psalm:

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” And now here we are …

We continued to sing to our LORD, and then Pastor Bob preached his timely sermon on “The Church Under Attack”.

Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes – truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked. The LORD looked and was displeased to find there was no justice. He was amazed to see that no one intervened to help the oppressed. So He Himself stepped in to save them with His strong arm, and His justice sustained him. (Isaiah 59:14-16 NLT)

That Scripture sounds a lot like Sunday May 31ST 2020.

Following service I went to my other family at the workplace. We became an instant church family this afternoon, as we mourned and then celebrated the life of our beloved coworker who suddenly lost his life early this past Saturday morning while driving himself to the local hospital. I preached to my brothers and sisters – my coworkers – on this afternoon – barely keeping it together with sweat and tears covering my face.

God has our brother now. He will take great care of him. And our brother will root us on from up above, as we continue to fix the base and clean it up.

Memorial Day

2008 Memorial Day Poster #3.

It’s Memorial Day here in the U.S.A. It’s not appropriate to say “Happy Memorial Day”, for this is a truly solemn holiday. It’s the day each year that we honor our fallen heroes – those military personnel who served their country in a time of war – and who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep our freedom strong. They gave their life.

This is not a day for those like me who once served in the U.S. Armed Forces, for I am still alive. My day is Veterans Day on November 11TH. It is not a day for those who are currently serving in the military. That day is Armed Forces Day – the 3RD Saturday of May.

On this day I remember our fallen heroes. I will never forget.

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:13)

Sunday Scripture

Happy Sunday May 24TH 2020. This is the day that our LORD has made. Let us rejoice. Let us be glad in it. Let us be the church. Let us bring the church – in everything we do – and everywhere we go.

For me (and for many of you as well) this is our 10TH Sunday in a row of no corporate church services. Many church services have been presented online – either LIVE or on Memorex. (If you get that reference then you are as old as me.)

I’ve watched many church services online. My Pastor has generally preached solo on Saturday nights from our sanctuary – recording his sermons – and then uploading them to Facebook soon after. I’ve been watching them the next morning – on Sundays right around 10 AM – the exact time when I would normally be driving to our church building. (Hopefully we’ll be able to do that again real soon – maybe as soon as next Sunday.) I miss my church family in-person.

Incidentally you can view any of my Pastor’s recent sermons on Facebook by clicking this link.

I’ve recently updated and enhanced my SERMONS page here on my blog. Check it out for my own sermon history. I’ve got future enhancements planned for this blog to include audio files of sermons. It would be a new concept for me – preaching a sermon while recording it (via my iPhone), and then uploading it as an audio file to my blog. I’ve never done it before, so I’ll experiment with it. Maybe there’s a podcast in my future ?

You know our God doesn’t want us to stay in place in neutral mode. He wants us to keep moving forward towards Him and His light. He wants us to move forward physically and spiritually. I believe that if you’re not learning something new about God on each new day of this journey then you’re not moving forward towards Him. You may not be retreating, but you may be standing still, or just barely moving along. Standing still does not get you closer to God. Barely moving along means you’re missing out on a lot of opportunities – on a lot of miracles – that God has planned for you. We must keep learning each and every day that God gives us on this Earth. Older people can learn about God from younger people. Longtime believers and followers of God can learn about God from newer and even baby Christians just learning how to walk on this journey.

Together we must:

Trust in the LORD with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead – fear the LORD and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. (Proverbs 3:5-8)
