Saturday Night Retro

I’ve got over a dozen pictures of varying sizes on display atop the entertainment center in my living room. I frequently look at them. They are pictures of me, my brother, my mom, my dad, and my cats over the years. My brother appears the most number of times within these pictures – a total of 12. By comparison I’m only featured 7 times !

The oldest picture of them all features me, my mom, and my dad. It was probably our first professional family portrait, and I believe that it was done in 1972 – perhaps 1973 – when I was 5 or 6. The photo studio imprinted on the back of it was located in Lanham Maryland not too far away from the Catholic Church that we attended back then. It looks like I’m wearing my Sunday finest !

Here now is the earliest picture of me that you’ll ever see (unless an even earlier picture of me is discovered – very possible). As usual I removed my mom and my dad from the picture to protect the innocent:

Me At 5
Me At 5 ... Or 6

Incidentally that teddy bear that I’m holding was not even mine. It was supplied to me by the photographer so that I would look even cuter in the photo-op.

According to a photo album that my mom has of me it is well documented that my favourite television show at the time (1972-1973) was “Wait Till Your Father Gets Home” – an animated family sitcom much like “The Flintstones” of the 1960s. Check out its memorable theme song, and if you’re over 40-years-old and remember all of the lyrics to it then sing along with me:

Hammertime !

Some 20 years after he totally ruled the U.S. pop charts with such jammin’ smash hits as “U Can’t Touch This”, “Pray”, “Have You Seen Her”, and “2 Legit 2 Quit” M.C. Hammer is getting back into the limelight again with a new half-hour reality series on A&E. The new show will focus on his day-to-day life with his wife of 23 years and 5 children. It’s being described as an unscripted ‘Cosby Show’ 25 years later.

And now here’s one of his big hits from when he was at the top of his career:

Bedtime Stories

I’m currently watching Hours 5 and 6 of “Make ‘Em Laugh: The Funny Business Of America” on PBS-TV. For the past 3 Wednesday nights in a row from 8 to 10 PM this 6-hour show has pretty much shown the evolution of comedy from Vaudeville to Radio to Television and the biggest stars that evolved right along with it. Funny Stuff. Comedy today is nothing like it used to be back in the day.

That doesn’t mean that the laughter has stopped. A lot of things on TV and in the Movies make me laugh, but what’s really funny is Life itself. Some of the funniest things in Life occur unintentionally.

For about 24 hours at work – the final hour in the afternoon yesterday and pretty much all day today – I could not stop laughing at the endless things that were happening all around me. They were innocent enough, but they were gutbusting hilarious. It wasn’t just 1 or 2 or 3 events. It was a continuous series of weird, wild, and wacky events all throughout the work day that made me and my coworkers bust a gut. I’m still laughing right now thinking about it all. I’m confident enough to declare that this was clearly the funniest day of my career in modern history !

Funny Stuff all around. It’s fun to laugh. Laughing is good for you. Laughing is the result of Happiness. It keeps us sane.

Here is what some famous people once said about Laughter:

– “The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter.” (Mark Twain)
– “Laughter is the Sun that drives Winter from the human face.” (Victor Hugo)
– “If it’s sanity you are after there is no recipe like laughter.” (Henry Elliot)
– “He who has achieved success has worked well, laughed often, and loved much.” (Elbert Hubbard)
– “What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.” (Proverb)

Have a great evening everyone. Keep on laughing !
