The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

Time: 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Sky: Mostly Clear
Temperature: 65°F
Dewpoint: 57°F
Relative Humidity: 75%
Winds: NE 3 MPH
Barometric Pressure: 30.17 Rising

Here are my thoughts in 15 words or less:

– This walk actually occurred on Friday night rather than Saturday morning.
– It was totally unplanned.
– Tammy exclaimed, ‘Wanna go for a walk around my neighbourhood ?’
– I enthusiastically responded, ‘SURE !’
– We started at exactly 7:00 PM, and we ended at exactly 7:30 PM.
– You can’t plan exact 30-minute walks like that.
– We walked about 1.5 miles or so, but who’s counting ?
– The Moon was not quite full – but two days away from being so.
– Many of the neighbours spend a lot of time manicuring their gorgeous yards.
– Some of the trailers have much more square footage than my condo !
– The snowbirds from up north are hangin’ out and chillin’.
– Dinner was being served all around, and we smelled what’s cookin’ !
– There were a few other walkers out and about.
– The neighbourhood was mostly peaceful and quiet.
– I totally dig that vibe.
– It was fun to do the ‘Walk-A-Thon’ with someone rather than alone.
– Perhaps this was the first of many more to come ?

Homestead Cold Weather Alert

An extended period of cooler and arid weather has begun. Look for temperatures to stay in the 70s during the daytime – and drop into the 50s early in the morning every day for at least the next 10 days !

Several cold fronts from the north will make passage through America’s Riviera over the next week-and-a-half, and we could actually see some downright frigid cold air invade our subtropical paradise during the middle of next week !

But before then get ready for wind chills to drop into the mid-40s for a few hours on Friday morning. Break out the flannel and bundle up my friends !

The Major’s Walk-A-Thon

Time: 6:50 AM – 7:33 AM
Sky: Mostly Clear
Temperature: 59°F
Dewpoint: 56°F
Relative Humidity: 90%
Winds: Calm
Barometric Pressure: 30.10 Rising

Here are my thoughts in 15 words or less:

– It’s my first walk of 2009. May there be many more like this one.
– It was a cool and crisp morning – but not as frigid as my last walk.
– I walked for 43.2 minutes, so I walked about 2.3 miles.
– I know that because I walk a mile in roughly 18.5 minutes.
– Every duck in town was out and about searching for food.
– An adorable gray and white cat crossed my path.
– He or She knew that I was a friend of felines – not a foe.
– Some of the dumpster areas actually smelled good.
– That’s because they were a dumping ground of old Christmas trees.
– There was a devastating fire in a condo unit a few blocks away from mine.
– I don’t know when it occurred but I’d guess perhaps several weeks ago.
– The entire second floor unit is gutted and condemned.
– I don’t think that any of the three adjoining units were damaged.
– We have amazing firewall protection here in-between condo units.
– I know that first-hand due to a roof fire right next door to my unit.
– That was perhaps a dozen years ago.
– When I moved here in June 1995 I didn’t know if I would like it.
– I love this neighbourhood. I plan to stay here indefinitely.
– I love Homestead Florida more now than ever before.
– I love my Life. Thank You God for giving me a second chance at it.

TOMORROW MORNING I fully intend to wake up sometime before 7 AM, take a hot shower, put on some cool clothes, and then proceed to venture outside and walk around my neighbourhood for a couple of miles. I call it ‘The Major’s Walk-A-Thon’, and you’ll be able to read all about it right here on the big green blog.

Later in the day on Saturday be sure to catch another smokin’ hot new edition of ‘The Major’s Saturday Night Fever DISCO Party’ ‘Saturday Night Retro’ as I take you back – way back to 1979 !

I’m getting indications that North America’s continental weather pattern is about to make a major shift, and that could mean the end of all of this warm weather that we’ve been experiencing here in America’s Riviera over the past 30 days or so. In fact I may be issuing a ‘Homestead Cold Weather Alert’ sometime early next week in anticipation of temperatures falling into the 40s !  Stay tuned for that one !

So that’s what I’ve got in store for the big green blog real soon. Be sure to stick around and check in from time to time. You won’t regret it pal !

Miami made International news headlines again today for another nutty incident. Hundreds and hundreds of shoes were dumped on a half-mile stretch of a Palmetto Expressway overpass early this morning near the Don SHOE-LA Expressway (sorry – I just had to go there), and it snarled rush hour traffic for miles and miles. Read (and see) all about it here (courtesy of WTVJ NBC-6), and (courtesy of CNN) – REMEMBER THIS !
